Foreign Affairs / Gross Impunity Of Nigerian Ambassador In Atlanta, USA. by PatrioticN: 3:59pm On Dec 17, 2021
I hope the Nigerian Government looks into these allegations.
What is Nigeria becoming? Or what have we become.
So sad!

RE: Gross Impunity of Nigerian Ambassador in Atlanta, USA.

Concerned Nigerians in the United States wish to call on the Presidency and the Honorable Minister of External Affairs in Nigeria to conduct a fair but thorough investigation into the allegations making rounds against the Nigerian Embassy or Consulate in Atlanta, GA, United States.
Since his Excellency, President Buhari’s administration, we have heard and seen the tremendous efforts that have been put towards fighting corruption and placing Nigeria back on a pedestal of dignity and respect in/among the Comity of States; unfortunately, this has yet again proved to be a deep-rooted problem. Its ugly head has once again been reared, and this time at the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta.
It is an understatement to mention that Nigerians in Atlanta and the United States as a whole are embarrassed by the conduct of the current administration at the Atlanta Embassy and wish that action be taken to prevent the image of our dear country from being further dragged into the mud. The allegations are as follows.

• There are allegations that Mrs. Amina Amira Smaila, the Consul General in Atlanta, has been frolicking all over Atlanta with a locale named Mr. Moses Damisa. The news making rounds is that he lives with her in the same house and moves around at the Nigerian Embassy like he is the Ambassador. As much as this may seem her private life, as a representative of Nigeria in the United States, Mrs. Smaila is expected to conduct herself more appropriately in the discharge of her duty…… as the saying goes, “get a room.” She should not put her dirty linen in all our faces.

• Social Media mishandling by the Ambassador’s boyfriend – It is gathered that the Ambassador’s boyfriend, who is not a staff of the embassy, manages the Embassy’s website and social media accounts at a very exorbitant cost due to his relationship with the Ambassador. This, we also gathered, is in defiance of the standard and more acceptable uniform website platform controlled by the Ministry of External Affairs. Most foreign Embassies sustain websites connected to their Foreign Ministries in their countries. This allegation should be investigated for misappropriation of funds and misuse of such a platform for personal aggrandizement. If displeasing to the Ambassador, constructive criticism made on the Embassy social media profiles is removed by Mr. Damisa. She practically runs Consulate’s affairs through an outsider; this calls her competence to question

• Unprofessional and undiplomatic conduct of the Ambassador in public- Mrs. Amina has been alleged to have made unfiltered comments and conducted herself most unprofessionally in specific public fora. Diplomats that we know don’t divulge confidential government information to audiences who are not meant to have such information. She had spoken unscrupulously about internal official matters with Nigerian organizations who pay her courtesy visits. Besides, she has thrown caution to the wind by dancing erotically in public events. This calls to question the training Nigerian Diplomats undergo before they are sent out to represent the country.

• Driver dismissed over her unhealthy relationship: An experienced driver, who had served in two Nigerian Embassies, Washington DC and Atlanta, for several years, was frustrated to the point of resignation because of Mr. Damisa’s misbehavior which the Ambassador failed to caution. Mr. Damisa gives the local staff orders at will, and the Ambassador turns a blind eye to his misbehavior.

• Waste of taxpayers’ hard-earned money on renting a mansion when Nigeria has provided a habitable house for Ambassadors at the Consulate – it is no longer news that Mrs. Smaila has been alleged to be wasteful with government resources. She has rented a house for 11,000 USD per month when an official Residence for Nigerian Ambassadors in Atlanta. Nigerians would like to know why the Government would tolerate such wasteful behavior.

• Wasteful way of life- Further allegations are that Mrs. Smaila and her boyfriend have gone on a shopping spree to equip the mansion she rented with the most expensive furniture and decorations at government expense. Nigerians wish to know how the Minister of External Affairs will allow an ambassador to leave a government-owned Residence to waste await unoccupied and then go and rent a mansion. Is that how rich Nigeria is now?

• She has spent over $250,000, including rent and furnishing, on the house; she didn’t get approval to lease. The money would have been more than sufficient to renovate the official house.

• Sectional representation of Nigerian Organizations in Atlanta – Mrs. Amina has chosen to associate with only a few groups of Nigerian people and organizations rather than the whole.

These are serious allegations, and we implore his Excellency, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, and the Ministry of Foreign affairs to look into them. Let this not tarnish the fight against indiscipline and corruption his Excellency; President Buhari has started. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
