Khamenei’s funeral procession has been intended by the Iranian government as a “display of unity” that carries a message to the US and Israel, says a Tehran-based analyst.

Following the assassination of the supreme leader, the government did not fall but became stronger, Abas Aslani, senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies in Tehran, told Al Jazeera.

“Prior to the war a few months ago there were economic protests in the country and the people were protesting against the economic situation. But the attack against the country changed the dynamic and those who were protesting against the government came back to the streets, but this time not to protest but to support the political establishment,” Aslani said.

“What the US and Israel did backfired. They wanted to bring about regime change in the country, but what actually happened created a rally around the flag.”

Over 95% of arrested drug traffickers are from the SE. This is really very troubling. However, it’s more troubling that political and religious leaders from the region doesn’t even see this as a problem. The usually loud Peter Obi, Oby Ezekwesili etc have not spoken up about this menace. They speak up about almost everything concerning other regions but act blind to a major pandemic ravaging the SE. When it is in place, serious States and people can use it to make themselves safe. That is the best Nigeria can achieve because , as this bandit brags, the entire North , to include our armed forces personnel, is wedded to terrorism and banditry.

The best the rest of us can do is have the right to protect ourselves. State policing, for example, will mean the commisioner of every State police force can issue gun licence to responsible Nigerians whereas such has being suspended by the federal police force for years now.

I remember trying to apply for a gun licence when I returned to Nigeria a few years ago to note the suspension by the IGP of police yet illiterate Fulani herders and bandits are carrying AK47 up and down terrorising everyone. How is that fair?
