The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, made the promise when the National Good Governance Tour team visited the complex in Ajaokuta. “On our part, we will not let this place go down like that; we will do our best to revive this steel plant,” he said. “What we have seen is quite revealing and I can assure you that the huge investment by Nigeria in this project cannot go into the drains.” Mr Maku, also the Supervising Minister of Defence, commended the workers for their faith in the plant and urged them to remain steadfast and continue to keep activities at the factory alive. “Just like you have shown during these turbulent years, I appeal to you all to keep faith and continue to ensure that life continues in this place,” he said. Earlier, Joseph Isah, the Sole Administrator of the company, told the tour team that the company was a huge investment opportunity for interested private sector players. He said the federal government’s agenda for economic transformation could not be realised if the steel company was not revived. According to Mr Isah, the steel plant had tremendous linkage and multiplier effect on the various sectors of the national economy that needs to be harnessed. He said that contrary to speculations, most of the machines in some sections of the factory were in workable condition. Mr Isah said that the company, if revived, could create direct and indirect jobs for about 500,000 persons in its various sections and departments. Otori Salihu, President of the Iron and Steel Workers Association of Nigeria, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to pay a fact-finding visit to the company. He said the nation’s Vision 20:2020 would be a reality if the steel sector was revived and opportunities in it harnessed. “We are appealing to the president to come and see this place for himself because some people stay far away from here and say that Ajaokuta steel company is finished,” he said. “But I can tell you that is not true. Ajaokuta is not a failure; as you are seeing today, the workers want to work, we are ready to contribute our quota to the development of this country through this plant.”. The Light Section Mill (LSM), the Machine and Tool Shop of the complex were operating at optimal level. The machine and tool shop serve the Port Harcourt Refinery, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and some cement factories in the country. taharqa: YOU ARE A VERY BIG FOOOL.... So it didn't rain yesterday, and according to you those bowls may hv been used to collect water from d AC System (as smone else also suggested), yet you rushed to open a thread on a National forum saying that you witnessed a 'rain leaking roof' yterday as you were traveling to London; and sm of d Okpees who call themselves MODS on NL pushed d thread to d FP. If you weren't sure, why d helll did not bring such a grave accusation to a forum where there are lots of Non-Nigerians reading? If sm persons didn't demand for sm answers, wud you hv made the clarifications you just made? Why didn't you add these clarifications (DOUBTS) to your opening OP if you were not a DISHONEST person...... EWUDANSo it is acceptable to use buckets to collect dripping water from AC units? |
Sincere 9gerian: It seems its a free for all season on the minister of aviation. Some people can even take pictures of their leaking homes and label it as an Airport. And so what if any Airport roof is leaking? The maintenance of any Airport is a continuous process. Any problem that comes up should be fixed by the Airport management. I'm not even sure the contractor working on the MMIA has completed work. Why didnt these vultures take pictures when these Airport were in a complete mess?Bros, it is very wrong of you to call one vultures. |
Billyonaire: People will always find fault, if their desire is to find fault. And such people never recognize anything except the bad side of life. Isnt it ironic that the same people who have seen the leaking roof can not recognize an efficient conveyor belt ?Bros, successful people also find faults and profer solutions.. |
gregg2: Maybe it's an old picture. You know, these guys are very mischievous. They can recycle pictures or even photoshop to spread their mischief.Hmmmmm..... |

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said the fight against corruption was not what the government alone could handle. He said there was need for joint efforts to fight the evil which he noted was still going on in both public and private institutions. Speaking while declaring open the 54th annual conference of the Nigerian Economic Society (NSE), Jonathan, however, assured that his administration would continue to strengthen anti-corruption agencies in the country to strengthen the corruption fight. The president hinted that his administration targeted building institutions, and plans using the instrument of rule of law as a framework to tackle corruption. He disclosed that the anti-graft agencies have been repositioned to adopt more effective, efficient and transparent way of managing corruption and corrupt practices, while expressing regret that Nigerians, through their actions still reward corruption, by celebrating those who enriched themselves through dubious means, despite reforms aimed at fighting corrupt practices by government. He said, “We believe that we should not create an environment where people would be tempted to take what belongs to the public because that is why even in the fertiliser business we talk about electronic wallet so that funds are not exposed to corrupt people. “When you talk about corruption, the private sector is involved; the public sector is involved; even the individuals including other societies and I wouldn’t want to mention names so that I will not be attacked. “But I know that if collectively all of us don’t reward corruption, people would not be attracted to corrupt practices but when we all reward corruption, then of course we will be tempted to go in that direction. “I want a society where all of us will frown upon people who come up with what they are not supposed to have. “If a young man who just started a job and within six months or a year comes up with a car of N7 million to N15 million and you clap for him, then you are rewarding corruption. “So for us as a nation to bring corruption down in Nigeria, it is not just blaming government or blaming police but all individuals must frown upon people who have what they are not supposed to have, who live in houses they are supposed not to live in; who drive cars they are not supposed to drive and who wear suits that are more expensive. “And until us as Nigerians are able to do this, then invariably we are all rewarding corruption and until we stop that, I don’t think we will get to where we want to go. “Our efforts at strengthening the capacity of state institutions at fighting corruption is not limited to granting independence to EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies. “It extends to developing affordable finance for housing, car ownership, etc as we believe that taking measures to help a realise aspirations to own their own homes and fund those things that make life easier can also aid the fight against corruption. “In the area of management of government finances, for many years, the process has been manual-government officials carry documents and files from one office to another. “This manual systems created opportunities for corrupt leakages and also introduced many ghost workers and ghost pensioners to the payrolls. “Today, we have put in place modern computerized systems and processes to manage the government payroll and also the government finances.” http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/21835-corruption-not-what-government-can-fight-alone-%E2%80%94jonathan.html Na wa oh,so all those working in Oil companies that earned such money are corrupt? ![]() |

278BN to create only 15 Skilled and 9 unskilled job opportunities....when an individual project of 100Million naira can create over 1000 job opportunities.. ![]() |
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the procurement of one water weed clearing multi-purpose equipment for N278.1bn. The cost includes payable taxes, $1.3bn and additional N73.6bn. The Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, who stated this while briefing State House Correspondents after the FEC meeting, said the procurement was aimed at improving safety on the inland waterways. He added that the equipment would aid navigation and boost economic activities in the various riverside communities across the country. The minister said it would also rid the waterways of hyacinth and other aquatic weeds. “The project will increase economic activities within the coastal areas and prevent boat mishaps. The project will create job opportunities for 15 skilled and nine unskilled Nigerians during the period of its execution,” he said. Umar added that the council also approved the establishment of the Command Control Communication and Intelligence Centre for Sea Ports at the Nigerian Ports Authority. He said FEC approved the project at the cost of N2.3bn with a completion period of 14 months. Umar said the project would help in providing a secure environment for ports operations within the Nigerian territorial waters and in curtailing the threat of terrorist activities at the ports. The project, according to him, will also create 145 job opportunities, including 33 for professionals and 77 for non-professionals during its execution as well as 35 more job opportunities as it progressed. http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/govt-approves-n278bn-equipment-to-clear-water-weeds/ Talk about priorities...smh |
