PoliticsI‘ll Not Contest 2015 Election – Jonathan by Pergrace(op): 8:07am On Oct 23, 2014
BY DANIEL IDONOR - February 01, 2011
ANKARA, TURKEY — President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said he has no ambition to stay in office beyond 2015, assuring Nigerians in Diaspora that while he will not contest the 2015 election, he will ensure that this year’s election is free and fair.
The President promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sectors of the economy — security, power, education, road, health amongst others.
“Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.”
Jonathan said this while interacting with Nigerians mainly diplomats working in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA, and the African Union, AU, in Addis-Ababa.
While fielding questions from those present at the interactive session on whether Nigerians abroad will vote, Jonathan said: “I would have loved that the Nigerians in Diaspora vote this year but to be frank with you, that is going to be difficult now. Presently, the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year Nigerians in Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it by 2015 even though I will not be running for election.”
On the issue of security, Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and were being prosecuted. He, however, said he ordered the release of the car dealers because they were just businessmen who could not have known that the vehicles were to be used for such heinous crime.
On education, the President said, the nine new approved universities were to be specialised and to be headed by at least three Nigerians experts in Diaspora.
On the concerns raised of having a database of Nigerian experts in Diaspora, President Jonathan assured that he was working on creating a forum for interaction between them and government and also develop a database, where experts needed to address the various challenges of the economy will be drawn. He hinted that this was why the Diaspora Commission was being set up as the bill was already before the National Assembly.
The President also disclosed that the government is looking towards reviewing the country’s foreign policy to ensure that Nigeria gets maximum benefit from its roles and contributions to international organizations like the AU, UN and ECOWAS.
He lamented that right now Nigeria’s contributions were not being recognized adding that “there is need for Nigeria to have something in return for our investments. We are investing so much but it is not being noticed and there is need to reverse that trend.
On the concerns about road network and transportation in the country, President Jonathan assured that the railway system will be revamp because presently heavy duty vehicles were destroying the roads. “Why we cannot have continuous road maintenance for now because no contractor wants to go into it because of the continuous pressure on the road by heavy duty vehicles. That is why we are working to ensure that we revamp the rail”.
The President also assured that Nigerians working in international organization and institutions would be issued diplomatic passports. He directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia to submit the list of those qualified within the shortest possible time to him.
On the 35 per cent affirmative action implementation and the domestication of protocols signed, he assured that he will present before the National Assembly within the shortest possible time

HealthHow 1 Doctor Saved Nigeria From Ebola Catastrophe by Pergrace(op): 2:35pm On Oct 22, 2014
A day after the World Health Organization declared Nigeria free of Ebola, the doctor who treated the country's first case of the deadly virus and later died from the disease herself is being hailed as a hero for helping stop the outbreak.

Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, a doctor at First Consultant Hospital, oversaw treatment of Patrick Sawyer, Nigeria's Ebola patient zero, when he arrived sick in Lagos, Nigeria's former capital and Africa's largest city, on a flight from Liberia in July.

Adadevoh fought to isolate Sawyer, a top official in the Liberian Ministry of Finance who did not take kindly to isolation and lied about his symptoms, officials said.

"Immediately, he was very aggressive," Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri, the hospital's director, told the BBC. "He was more intent on leaving the hospital than anything else. He was screaming. He pulled his intravenous [tubes] and spilled the blood everywhere."

Adadevoh, the Telegraph writes, "effectively saved the country from disaster by spotting that its first Ebola patient was lying about his condition, and then stopped him leaving her clinic."

Sawyer, who had been caring for his Ebola-stricken sister, was reportedly set on visiting one of Nigeria's Pentecostal churches "in search of a cure from one of the so-called miracle pastors," the BBC said.

"The Liberian ambassador started calling Dr. Adadevoh, putting pressure on her and the institution," Ohiaeri said. "He felt we were kidnapping the gentleman and said it was a denial of his fundamental rights and we could face further actions. ... The only way we could be sure and live up to our responsibility to our people, the state and nation — this is all about patriotism at the end of the day — was to keep him here."

Sawyer, 40, collapsed in Lagos on July 20 after getting off a plane from Liberia. He died just five days later. Adadevo and 11 colleagues were infected with Ebola.

"She was fine all along and then suddenly it became apparent," Adadevoh's son Bankole Cardoso told the news service.

She died on Aug. 19.

"We lost some of our best staff," Ohiaeri said. "Dr. Adadevoh had been working with us for 21 years and was perhaps one of the most brilliant physicians. I worked with her. I know that she was sheer genius."

Thanks to patient isolation and aggressive contact tracing (including 18,500 visits to 894 people), Nigeria had just 20 Ebola cases, including eight deaths — a far lower death rate than the 70 percent seen elsewhere.

Cardoso, still mourning the loss of his mother, says it's become "more and more apparent exactly what she had done" in identifying Sawyer as patient zero.

"It really helped Nigeria to prepare and get ready to trace everybody," Cardoso said. "And I think that's the difference between us and our West African neighbors — Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone."

Rui Gama Vaz, WHO director for Nigeria, called the containment of Ebola in the most populous country in Africa a "spectacular success story."

"But we must be clear that we only won a battle," Vaz added. "The war will only end when West Africa is also declared free of Ebola."

It is stated in the letter that for collection of the refund, the applicant should include his name and a USA address.... shocked... Which means the applicant can physically come to the USA address and collect his refund.. undecided. It doesn't make any sense at all.
They better send back the deposit to Nigeria through wire transfer . cheesy

Mobil 1 is not 20 w 50. 20 w 50 is Mobil XHP. and Nigeria is not hotter than some states in the USA and the manufacturer stated 5 w 30 even for those places. So please get 5 w 30 and if you can't go for other alternatives which includes Mobil 1 (0 w 40) or Total quartz 9000 (5 w 40)
Thanks I will do the needful at the next oil change. Thanks a bunch.

It's not about Mobil or Total. it is about the weight of oil you are using. If you are using Mobil XHP in that engine of yours, then you aren't doing that engine any favors. I hope you use Mobil 1.
I used Mobil 1 20W 50. please was it wrong with the XHP? At the next oil change, I hope to use oil with 5w-30 rating as specified in the manual.
Don't know if the temperature in Nigeria may be acceptable for either 5W-30 or 20W-50.

Sorry about the loss of the crankshaft, I'm still perturbed by the whole incident. The only times that I've ever changed camshafts was either while I'm going for more power or during a rebuild when the original is out of spec.

The scanners are on sale for N10,000, every modern car owner should have one in Nigeria.
How do I get the scanner? I stay in PH.Also is it payment after delivery?

chillex8: Your topic is misleading
If you have a current problem with your automobile, pls rephrase your topic That way we are abreast of what is going on...

Cheers..
Bros, the major problem was the damaged camshaft, (the cylindrical device,I believe sits at the tip of the camshaft). However, the camshaft has been replaced together with the cylindrical device.
The car is in good shape now.My major concern here is to know what caused the damage on the camshaft.

Is it Oil? water affecting part of the engine? block strainer? faulty oil pump?
I be novice for car stuffs. embarassed
Car TalkRe: What's The Possible Cause Of A Faulty Camshaft by Pergrace(op): 8:25am On Sep 26, 2014
CityNG: What were the symptoms that led you or your mechanic to believe that your camshaft was bad?

Was there a visible damage? I don't believe that it's oil related personally.

I sell code scanners (currently on back order though) but why not go back to your mechanic and tell him that you're throwing codes after his work?
There was a cranking noise that came out from no where to my surprisesad.. So I decided to tow the car to my mechanic, he switched on the ignition,he heard the same noise and suggested that it may be the camshaft or any other device and hope the crank shaft wasn't affected. He dismantled the engine (the side where the camshaft is located) and behold the cam shaft was damaged at the tip together with a small cylindrical object which is close to the cam shaft as shown in the picture. cry

However, the problem started when I wanted to move my car away from the car wash after the engine have been washed. The car refused to start ,thinking maybe water got into the alternator or somewhere else. After several effort, the engine was on and the noise came up.I thought maybe the problem was due to the washing of the engine. cry. but that day wasn't the first time the engine was washed.
Since you said oil might not be the cause,I wonder what it is...

How much do you sell the scanner?

Siena: Mobil is simply the Brand. The grade and weight is more important.
GAZZUZZ: It was starved of oil possibly caused by a blocked strainer, or faulty oil pump. You might also be using the wrong type of engine oil. Also a faulty ocv valve.
Ensure there are no pendind dtcs on your ecu.
Hardheolar: thanks very much.. just trying to confirm it cus of d shape of ur camshaft..
Thanks Guys,
Also, I forgot to mention that the 'Check engine", VSC & TRAC OFF comes on after the camshaft was replaced.

SportsI Will Never Bite Anyone Again— Suarez by Pergrace(op): 3:56pm On Aug 19, 2014
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez said he has received professional help after receiving a four-month ban for biting an opponent for the third time in his career when he clashed with Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.
Suarez made his debut for the Catalans in a 6-0 friendly win over Mexican side Club Leon on Monday, but will not be able to play a competitive game for Barca until late October after his appeal against the ban was thrown out by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week.
“The suspension is what it is and I have to accept it, it is a personal matter but I have worked with the adequate professionals,” the Uruguayan said at his first press conference as a Barca player on Tuesday.
“I have tried to forget this game and this situation as well. It is a difficult moment for me and I would say to all the fans to not worry because I am not doing that anymore.”
Suarez was believed to have been a long-term target for Barca’s eternal rivals Real Madrid. However, Barca’s sporting vice-president Jordi Mestre said the player’s desire to come to Catalonia had allowed the club to negotiate a fee of 81 million euros (£65 million, $109 million) with Liverpool, £10 million less than the player’s £75 million release clause.
“There were options from other teams, but when the option of Barca became clear I didn’t have any doubts because it was a dream for me,” added Suarez.
“I still can’t believe it. It is something I have dreamed about but I never imagined such a beautiful dream would come true.”
Suarez could even make his competitive debut against Madrid should their first clash of the season be scheduled for Saturday, October 25 or the following day and he is determined to ensure he is as fit as possible when that game comes around in case coach Luis Enrique calls on him to start.
“It’s not the same but I had a similar situation last year at Liverpool, I started to play on September 20. It is a long time but if you keep focused with your teammates in training it helps.”
Barcelona already have a wealth of talent available in attacking areas with four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and Brazilian star Neymar, meaning Suarez is likely to be forced into a role on the right side of the attack.
However, he insisted that won’t phase him as he dovetailed with Daniel Sturridge last year to form a deadly partnership that nearly delivered Liverpool’s first Premier League title in 24 years.
“I am prepared to play any position in attack. This last year I played on the left and on the right because Sturridge played as the number nine. I don’t have any problem playing in any position and adapting myself to what the coach demands.
“The quality that Leo and Ney have is amazing, they are players you admire. Yesterday I was watching them in the first half and they make you want to stop and applaud.”

Ebola: Nurse, husband who escaped quarantine relocated to Lagos in special ambulance- Minister

Nigerian Minister for Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has confirmed that the Lagos nurse who travelled to Enugu against medical advice is now back in Lagos and is under quarantine with her husband.
The suspect, identified as a nurse, said to have travelled to her home town to visit her family, is now under surveillance with 20 others she came into contact with in the city.
With the development, the total number of Nigerians under monitoring for the dreaded virus is now 198.
Revealing these facts yesterday after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Information Minister, Labaran Maku, explained that Nigeria currently has 10 confirmed cases of Ebola, all stemming from the visit of the late Sawyer.
Maku explained that of the 198 persons under surveillance, 177 of them are in Lagos while 21 are in Enugu.
He said: “All those who had primary contact have been quarantined. Secondary contacts have also been traced. So far, the number of people that have been traced is 198.
“Of this number, 177 are in Lagos and are being traced. Some are in quarantine, some are being monitored by health specialists.”
Meanwhile, the death toll world wide from the outbreak stands at 1,069 and total number of infections 1,975, according to the World Health Organisation.

PoliticsFG To Set Up National Council On Power by Pergrace(op): 4:15pm On Aug 13, 2014
The Federal Government of Nigeria has is planning to establish the National Council on Power to achieve the goal of providing sustainable power supply. When established, the National Council on Power would assist in formulating useful policies and providing the much needed manpower in the power sector.

Speaking at a meeting in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of State for Power, Mr Mohammed Wakil, urged members of the council to use their expertise to make useful observations to the Federal Government to improve the nation’s power sector.

The Nigerian government had in November 2013 concluded the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, but the process has not yielded much in the sector, as the total power generation is bellow 6,000 megawatts.

The government had said it would welcome more investments in the sector to boost the power supply, which experts said would create jobs and grow the economy.
