As at 9:30pm tonight (8-7-13) we've not heard of the news of the sighting of the moon in any part of the world. In accordance with the Prophetic tradition, we'll count tomorrow as 30th Sha'baan 1434AH . Thus, the first of Ramadan is on Wednesday. The tarawih will first be observed tomorrow therefore. The Secretary, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), Prof Ishaq Oloyede confirmed it just a while ago on network news. We base all acts of worship in Islam on principles of the Qur'an and Sunnah not personal prejudices. For anyone to be fasting without the sighting of the moon is equated to following his whims and caprices. May Allah grant us better understanding of Islam. |

Here's what may likely happen: J vs. A 1. Amaechi will go to court to stop his purported expulsion from PDP. 2. The court will take at least two years to settle all the matters that may come up especially when you have more than enough to hire a SAN. (I see Amaechi hiring Femi Falana) He may get a temporary court order reversing the PDP order. 3. Technically speaking, since Amaechi is nolonger a PDP member, his continued claim to the Chairman of NGF becomes invalid because NGF chairman can ONLY come from the ruling party and as it stands today, Amaechi is 'partyless' and a partyless person cant lead NGF. 4. The use and dump policy will be applied to Akwa-Ibom Governor after our man gets his second term ticket from PDP. Why? Because he couldnt stop Amaechi from winning the NGF election. 5. Amaechi and Jonathan may both be loosing sleep over the scripts they are playing out... 6. Jang has nothing to gain and nothing to loose except his integrity and to him integrity is nothing. My comment: In Nigeria politics, when you fight your opponent, you fight them dirty in such a way to intimidate other opponents and make them to be so afraid to the extend that they wont be able to engage you in any fight... Those that dont have shoes, their foots are always dirty! Be wise.. Is this likely to happen wat do u think? http://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10151646420378324&id=777403323&from_feed=1&refid=8&_ft_=qid.5882886963306210304%3Amf_story_key.-4045895658331497325 |
Gov ordered police to bring my head - Ombatse chief priest 2013-05-23 00:43:35 The Chief Priest of the Ombatse cult group in Lakyo, Nasarawa South Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Ala Agu, on Wednesday said that security men that invaded the community were ordered by the state governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, to kill him. The 76-year-old Agu, popularly called Baba Lakyo, spoke with journalists on Wednesday at Lakyo during a visit of Senator Solomon Ewuga (Nasarawa North Senatorial District) to the community. The chief priest, who spoke through an interpreter, said the security operatives did not come to arrest him, but to kill him "and cut off my head and take it to the governor." "It is the governor that asked the people (police officers) to come here and arrest me, cut my head and take my head to him. "When they came, because they were themselves drunk, my god did not allow them to come to me and they died on the way. "The question I asked is, 'has the governor ever invited me and I refused to go?' If am invited, I will go. But he sent people to come and kill me and to destroy Lakyo as a whole. That is just what it is." Al-Makura had rushed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja on May 8, 2013 to brief Vice- President Nnamadi Sambo on the security situation in the state, saying that 20 policemen were killed in Lakyo by cultists. The governor had said that members of Ombatse laid ambush and killed security agents sent to arrest the members in their shrine. On Wednesday, Baba Lakyo said that he had never been invited by security agencies, contrary to reports that the police invaded the village after he shunned their invitation. The chief priest said that he was willing to honour any invitation either by the governor or the police. Although Lakyo is peaceful, besides the sight of burnt vehicles used by the security men, Agu said he was unhappy with what happened and was apprehensive of what might befall him afterwards. Ewuga toured Lakyo community, and led reporters to the home of Agu, which represents the "shrine" of the Ombatse. Agu however denied ever forcing people to join the group through any initiation or drinking of concoction. "I am grateful for your coming, Senator. I am very, very grateful for your coming. Even if the Senator did not come here, I had intended to go and see him in his house but since he is here, I am very grateful," he told the senator. Agu also said that he was in a nearby village when the incident took place only for him to come back to be informed that the governor sent people to come and kill him. Asked whether the incident had anything to do with the politics of the state, he said, "If you are talking about politics, it does not bother me. I don't even understand Hausa language. Politics is not for me because I am not a politician. Politics is for politicians but I hear that the time for politicking has not even come. "If I ever opened my mouth to force anybody to take oath, God should punish me". He said that Ombatse was an association of Lakyo boys into which nobody was forced to belong. He said he was ready to honour any police invitation but insisted that nobody had invited him. According to him, it is even more saddening that he is being linked to the incident, especially when he knew nothing about what happened to the policemen. But Al-Makura on Wednesday dismissed Agu's claim that he was never invited for any meeting. The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Iliya Aliu, in a telephone interview, said it was on record that the head of the cult group did not honour several invitations extended to him. He said, "It is not true that he was never invited. The Emir of Lafia who is the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs invited him, he refused to honour it. "Are Eggon, who is the chief of his area invited him, he refused; the Police, the SSS all invited him before this incident but he refused to honour any of them. "His followers attacked and killed people in Asakiyo Alago; they went to Arga Migili, Kwadere and did the same. "No responsible government will sit by and watch such things happen without taking action. "It was after he refused to answer all of these invitations that the state security council met and decided that he should be arrested. "Even their name, Ombatse, means it is our turn. Their turn for what? "In any case, no matter the grievance, no individual or group has the right to kill innocent security officials. "He and all those responsible must face the consequence of their action." The President of the Egon Cultural Development Association, Mr. Chris Mamman, said the only way to get to the root of what happened at Alakyo was for the Federal Government to set up a judicial commission of inquiry. Ewuga said he decided to tour the affected area as a matter of national responsibility, saying he needed to see things for himself since he is also an Eggon man even though it was not within his senatorial district. mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/gov-ordered-police-to-bring-my-head-ombatse-chief-priest/ |
Nigeria, fastest growing African country - Jonathan 2013-05-26 23:00:50 In spite of security challenges in the country, President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday declared that Nigeria was growing faster than any country in Africa. He said the country's foreign policies had continued to receive global applause, as most investors coming to Africa preferred Nigeria. Jonathan spoke in Abuja at the 2013 Democracy Day Interdenominational Church Service. In his speech read by Senate President, David Mark, Jonathan described the declaration of emergency rule in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states as "unfortunate but inevitable." He said, "No responsible government anywhere in the world will fold its arms and watch anarchy reign supreme within its borders. This government, therefore, will do whatever is within the ambit of our laws to protect and defend not only our citizens, but the unity and cohesion of our country". The President said he had information that the security agencies were achieving progress in efforts to tackle insurgency in the three affected states. mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/nigeria-fastest-growing-african-country-jonathan/ |

My name has brought good luck to Nigeria -- Jonathan 2013-05-25 23:00:06 President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said despite the security challenges in parts of the country, his first name had brought some good luck to Nigeria. Jonathan said this while granting an interview to a 10-year-old Nigerian girl based in California, Miss Zuriel Oduwole, on the sideline of the ongoing 21st ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Africa Union holding in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Oduwole who was said to have earlier interviewed some other African leaders is working on a documentary on the union's 50 years of existence. She had sought to know from Jonathan how much good luck his first name had brought to the country under his leadership. Jonathan said religion and traditional societies attached some values to names. This, he said, was why parents select good names for their children. He said, "Traditional societies attach some values to names. That is why people select good names for their children. "In the scriptures sometimes, when God sends you on some special assignment, He could even direct, 'change the name of this child from this to that.' "But the name in itself does not make much difference because even from my village, there is one of my peers that also answers Goodluck. Another one that is a little older than me answers Lucky from my small village and I didn't see the good luck and lucky in them. "In terms of bringing my name to bear in Nigerian affairs, within this period, we have our challenges. Of course, you are aware that we have our security challenges. But in spite of the security challenges, the country is moving on. I will say yes, it brought some good luck to the country." On the legacy he would want to leave behind at the expiration of his tenure, Jonathan said he would like to be remembered for sanitising the nation's electoral system as well as fixing the power poor and security challenges. "If we can stabilise the electoral process, sanitise the political environment, then we make sure that we have power in this country and of course, security, every other things will take off on its own," the President said. Jonathan said he would also like the sanitation going on in the electoral system to be internalised in all sectors of the country. He said, "People should be allowed to decide who governs them, who represents them at the parliament, who runs their affair at the local government level; the country never had that opportunity and the elite were no longer interested even in voting. "Democracy was almost left floating in the hands of people who ordinarily have no place there. So, we are sanitising the electoral process. Now, Nigerians can select who they want to be their President, who they want to be their governor, who they want to be their senator, who they want to be their House of Representatives member or even their state House of Assembly member or even chairman of their council. "We are doing that and I want that to be internalised in all the ways we do things. I want people to remember me for that." Jonathan also talked of his desire to put the nation on a better stead in the area of Information Technology. He said with technological development, power could be stabilised and then, micro, small and medium scale enterprises would be encouraged. These, he added, are the areas that create jobs for the people, improve the economy and reduce poverty to the barest minimum. Also, the President said for African countries to come out of the woods and take their rightful positions among the comity of nations, their leaders must deepen democracy by avoiding abuse of power and impunity. mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/my-name-has-brought-good-luck-to-nigeria-jonathan/
