Nairaland / General / Exclusive Interview: My Parents Influence My Music Career – VEECII by PeterOnu(m): 1:24pm On May 16
By Oriri Peter

Tell us a bit about your background? Where you grew up, schools attended, family, etc
My full name is Victor Ukor, I’m also known as Veecii. I am from Delta State, in the Southern part of Nigeria. I was born in Benin City, Edo State and grew up there until I went to study Physics at Delta State University Abraka, Delta to pursue an undergraduate degree in Physics. During my National Youth Service in Lagos, I took a chance to produce music professionally and right after my NYSC, I relocated to the United Kingdom where I bagged a master’s degree in Artificial intelligence at the Birmingham City University, England.

How did you start producing music and do you play any instruments?

My family was my earliest music influence; my brother played the piano and bass guitar and my mum sang a lot around the house. I grew up exposed to a variety of music genres and music instruments at church. I started as a drummer then I learned how to play the piano from just practicing myself and playing at church. During my service year in Lagos, I was blessed to work with different producers and singers, that helped me hone my skills as a music producer and push me further on this path as a music producer.

Describe your creative process in any song?
I draw inspiration from range of sources and incorporate new techniques into creating music depending on how I’m feeling at that time. As a producer my process could be coming up with an idea for the song. This might involve brainstorming with then artist what they have in mind, listening to references, or drawing inspiration on my own experience just like how I have visioned my idea. It really just depends on my mood and the artist I am working with. Afrobeats is now global.

How does this make you feel knowing that your productions will contribute to it?

I’m happy to be a part of a movement that uses music to bridge cultural divides and unite individuals from different backgrounds while also highlighting the rich and varied musical legacy of Africa. Seeing how Afrobeat is influencing and motivating musicians all around the world and knowing that my own efforts are affecting this dynamic and colourful genre is exciting. I must commend Sarz, Masterkraft, Blaise Beatz Tempoe, Rexxie and all the other gifted producers working hard and creatively, to put our music on the map. I love to experiment with sound and push the boundaries of what’s possible in music and so I strive to contribute to afrobeat by bringing my own unique style and sound to each production, while remaining true to the roots and spirits of the genre.

Why did you choose to work with new artists and not bigger artists on “Black Energy”?

For a variety of reasons, I decided to collaborate on my project with emerging artists. In my opinion, emerging artists frequently offer a certain energy and perspective to their work that can be challenging to locate in more seasoned artists. They frequently have a competitive spirit and a willingness to take artistic chances, which can result in highly avant-garde and thrilling music. Working with emerging artists also enables me to participate in the creative process more directly and actively.

The Nigerian entertainment industry is very competitive. What makes Veecii different from the pack?

Well, I can say that I’m unique approach to creating music. I believe that my sound transcends borders and speaks to audiences of all backgrounds and cultures. By blending traditional African rhythms and melodies with modern production techniques and sounds, I can create music that is both deeply rooted in the Afrobeat tradition and highly accessible and appealing to a global audience. Whether I am working with established artists or emerging talent, my goal as a producer is always to create music that speaks to people on a fundamental level, regardless of their background or cultural identity. By drawing upon a wide range of influences and sounds, and by staying true to the spirit and energy of the Afrobeat genre, I am able to create music that truly transcends borders and speaks to listeners around the world.

Critics and enthusiasts say that producers aren’t given enough credit for their work. What do you think?

No doubt this is true but it is beginning to change as more and more people realise how important producers are to the creation of music. Producers are increasingly acclaimed for their special abilities and talents as well as for their roles in the creation of some of the greatest and most well-known songs and albums in history. At the same time, I think it is our responsibility as producers to keep fighting for more respect and appreciation for what we do. We can ensure that producers receive the credit and recognition they merit for their significant contributions to the music industry by speaking up for ourselves and our peers and by carrying on creating innovative and captivating music that grabs the attention of listeners and critics alike.

What is next after this song?

While I am certainly proud of the work that I have done on this song, and the EP. I am already thinking about what comes next. I’ll keep pushing myself creatively and exploring new sounds and styles. I am constantly seeking out new collaborations and opportunities to work with talented artists from a range of different backgrounds and musical tradition. I am also mindful of the need to stay true to the core principles that have guided me throughout my career as a producer. This means remaining committed to producing music that is both innovative and accessible, that speaks to audiences of all backgrounds and cultures.

I have an arsenal of unlimited songs that I have coming, and everyone should watch out for me as I intend to give the fans unlimited good music, hits upon hits. My EP is loaded with a lot of good music/ collaborations, and I urge everyone to stay with me on this journey. I’m excited to see where this takes me next

Nairaland / General / Arrest Serial Blackmailer, George Uboh - Group Tells Police, DSS by PeterOnu(m): 9:35pm On May 03
A youth group under the aegis of Nigerian Progressive Youth Congress (NPYC), has urged the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) to arrest an ex-convict, George Uboh, for blackmailing and publishing false information against over 200 prominent Nigerians and organisations.

The group made the call on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at a well-attended press conference in Abuja.

The President, Dr. Rotimi Adefarasin, and Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Ahmad who addressed the conference, said it was about time the serial blackmailer, Uboh was tame before he set the country in flames with his fake news and blackmail mill.

The statement read, "The attention of the Nigerian Progressive Youth Congress (NPYC), an umbrella body for all sociocultural youth groups from across the country, has been drawn to the criminal activities of one George Uboh who goes about blackmailing and raising false alarms against politicians, business moguls, government agencies, private organizations and public figures to extoll his victims. The questionable fellow has blackmailed over 200 individuals and organizations in Nigeria.

"His blackmail mill is not only dubious but a mischievous attempt to tarnish the hard-earned and unblemished images of those distinguished Nigerians and organizations. Therefore, the Nigerian Progressive Youth Congress condemns in the strongest terms the scandalous, malicious and defamatory publications of George Uboh against eminent Nigerians and organizations. NPYC finds his cyber gangsterism as baseless, illegal and very unacceptable.

"Our findings on the unhinged fellow, Uboh, revealed that he is an infamous fraudster and ex-convict who has no relevance and character apart from being used for pen thuggery and propaganda machine in the hands of unscrupulous politicians. Uboh was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by Justice Sunday Ebenezer Aladetoyinbo of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja in 2016 for converting the property of the defunct Police Equipment Foundation to his own use. Such unrepentant fraudster should never be trusted.

"George Uboh, a certified fraudster was previously convicted of wire fraud in the United States. He was prosecuted after US law enforcement agents carried out a major raid on a credit card and bank fraud ring led by Uboh in Georgia in 1992. He eventually came out of the US jail on January 16, 2001. Typical of notorious criminals, despite being jailed twice, Uboh has refused to change his ways.

"Uboh sensationally accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of diverting proceeds from recovered assets. He also accused the House of Representatives panel, set up to look into the 48 million barrels of oil that were allegedly illegally sold in China, of lacking transparency. He has occasionally disrespected the Federal Government with his endless false alarms of corruption and money laundry in ministries, agencies and parastatals.

"This serial blackmailer and fraudster own a magazine that he uses to blackmail politicians and bigwigs who refused to pay ransom to his blackmail mill. It is on record that the notorious cyber gangster, George Uboh has blackmailed many prominent Nigerians including Governors Olukayode Fayemi, Godwin Obaseki, Ifeanyi Okowa, and Aminu Tambuwal of Ekiti, Edo, Delta and Sokoto states respectively. Others are Governors Yahaya Bello, Sanni Bello, Samuel Ortom, Darius Ishiaku, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Kogi, Niger, Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states respectively.

"Even the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Godwin Emefiele, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Andy Uba, former Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, are not left out of George Uboh's blackmail mill.

"It is regrettably lugubrious that, a convicted fraudster like George Uboh is blackmailing and accusing others of fraud.

"While urging the general public to ignore the malicious publications of the cybercriminal, we implore his victims to take legal action against George Uboh and his propagandist organization/media: George Uboh Whistleblowers Network and George Uboh Magazine.

"Finally, we call on the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security to arrest George Uboh within 48 hours, before he set the country in flames with his blackmail mill."

Nairaland / General / Buhari Should To Take Responsibility For His Inability To Protect Nigerians by PeterOnu(m): 7:13pm On Apr 20
By Oriri Peter

The Benue Youth Forum, BYF has read with utter shock and disappointment a statement by President Muhammadu Buhari wherein he blamed Governor Samuel Ortom for the Federal Government’s inability to protect lives and property in Benue state.

In the said statement by the loquacious Garba Shehu, the President claims that the security situation in Benue state was aggravated by Governor Ortom’s refusal to accept and work on intelligence given to the Benue governor.

What was most laughable about the statement is how the President would choose to compare himself with a state Governor in terms of achievements. And talking about achievements, perhaps the President needs to be reminded that no federal road is motorable in any part of Benue State as we speak. His administration has abandoned the state in every aspect of development.

In a statement signed by the President of the Benue Youth Forum Comrade Terrence Kuanun he noted that Mr. Garba Shehu should inform Mr. President that more than 200 innocent Benue people have been killed by armed herdsmen in the last two months and President Buhari or any of his appointees have not bothered to visit the state to see the level of devastation caused by the attacks and to console the people.

BYF wonders if Ortom’s alleged refusal to treat intelligence as expected is responsible for the President’s failure to end banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, religious tension and general insecurity especially in the North and his home state of Katsina.

The President apparently wants Nigerians to believe that states like Kaduna, Plateau, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno and others are experiencing massive bloodletting because the governors of those states failed to accept and work on intelligence available to them.

It is indeed unfortunate that the President has a tradition of blaming others for his colossal failure to guarantee the security and welfare of Nigerians.

Also worrisome is the President’s celebration of the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections in Benue state. But mocking Benue people does not in anyway invalidate the fact that Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC used instruments of state to militarize the polls and practically captured the state for their cronies who they believe would subvert the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state to cede land to Fulani pastoralists.

Buhari should be aware that Benue people are still standing tall despite the militarization of the elections and would not be cowed by the antics of enemies of the state.

It was ironic and shameful that a federal government which cannot protect Nigerians would deploy heavy military presence to Benue state to intimidate the people and ensure that its favorite candidates won the elections.

The Benue Youth Forum also expects the governor-elect to be mindful of the fact that he is seen as an ally of enemies of the state and should be cautious not to mortgage the lives of the people for political convenience and correctness.

We call on the Benue APC to retrace its steps and change the narrative of rationalizing the killings in Benue state and desist from accusing the people of killing their loved ones.

We once again state our resolve to stand by the law banning open grazing in Benue state and maintain our commitment to legally resisting any attempt to tamper with the law and pave way for land grabbers and merchants of death to have a field day in the state.

By Oriri Peter

Troubled by the spate of electricity vandalism in its franchise states, the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc, has concluded arrangements to deploy drones and closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), to tackle the menace affecting it’s facilities.

Decrying the high rate of vandalism, the JED Managing Director Engr. Abdu Mohammed who spoke at the beginning of a 3-day workshop in the city of Jos on Tuesday said the new measure is aimed at curtailing the threat of vandals in the four states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, and Plateau respectively.

He said in addition to the drones and CCTV cameras, security operatives have been mobilized and well-detailed to aid the company in apprehending criminals who are bent on vandalizing electricity facilities.

In addition, Mohammed advised communities to take ownership of the installations in their localities, as it will help in safeguarding transformers and other electrical equipment closer to them.

He assured of a steady power supply if the activities of vandals can be halted and also promised that the company will provide more meters for its customers who have not been metered.

Responding to private individuals or companies who would want to invest in meter procurement, the JED boss said regulators now allow third parties, which are nonlicensed operators, to invest in the system through a project agreement.

“Any individual, corporate organization, or community that wants to invest in the system now has the opportunity to do so. A structured repayment program is also fashioned into the agreement”, Mohammed said.

The Managing Director disclosed that the company was poised to meter every consumer by injecting over 417, 000 meters into its network.

According to him, JED has sealed all contractual agreements with meter providers, the world bank, and National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).

The Managing Director further explained that with the NMMP phase one coming into play very soon, the company is set to meter more of its customers.

“With World Bank Intervention being in process, we expect 305,000 from NMMP phase one and also expect another over 100,000 in the World Bank Intervention program and currently, we have 12,000 meters processed two days ago.

“We have the MAP still in progress with other initiatives in place, our customers will see traction in this direction”, Mohammed said while answering questions from journalists.

Responding to the third-partyvestors, the JED boss said regulators now allow third parties, which are nonlicensed operators, to invest in the system through a project agreement.

“Any individual, corporate organization, a community that wants to invest in the system now has the opportunity to do so. A structured repayment program also fashioned into the agreement”, Mohammed said.

Speaking earlier, Commissioner, Consumer Affairs, National Electricity Regulation Commission, (NERC) Hajia Aisha Mahmud, said the purpose of organizing a 3-day workshop is to educate customers on their rights and any other information they need to know regarding the electricity industry.

She explained further, “Metering is one of the biggest challenges faced in this industry. A couple of years ago, the commission together with the federal government came up with a different Intervention program to make sure that customers are metered”.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the purpose of organizing the 3-day workshop was to educate customers on their rights and any other information they need to know regarding the electricity industry adding that, “We also want to resolve their complaint on the spot”.

Nairaland / General / Include Nigerian Youth In Your Government, Amb Abdul Urges President-elect by PeterOnu(m): 8:07pm On Apr 15
By Oriri Peter

A member of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council Amb. Abdul Usman Shuaibu has call on the President elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make Nigerian youth his number one priority in policy making and inclusivity in his government noting that the youths have been marginalized for a long time.

Amb. Abdul who writes from Nasarawa State noted that the Nigerian government has been grappling with the issue of youth inclusiveness in governance for a long time. Despite the fact that the country has a large population of young people, their voices and opinions have often been marginalized in government decision-making processes.

However, he was confident that the incoming government under the watch of His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will give a facelift of the challenges faced by Nigerian youths.

One of the key ways that the Tinubu-led government can address the issue of youth inclusivity is by appointing more young people to key positions in government.

This would not only give young people a seat at the table, but it would also help to infuse new ideas and perspectives into government decision-making. In addition, young people should be given the opportunity to participate in decision-making processes through youth councils, forums, and other platforms that enable them to express their opinions and concerns.

Another important aspect of youth inclusivity in government is the need to address the issue of youth unemployment. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria's youth unemployment rate stood at 42.5% in the second quarter of 2020. This is a worrying statistic that underscores the urgent need for government intervention to create more job opportunities for young people.

The Tinubu-led government should prioritize job creation for young people by investing in sectors such as agriculture, technology, and renewable energy, which have the potential to create a large number of jobs.

Furthermore, the government should also prioritize education and skills development for young people. This includes investing in vocational training programs, providing scholarships and grants for young people to pursue higher education, and promoting entrepreneurship among young people. By equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workforce, the government can help to unlock their potential and contribute to the development of the country.

In addition to these measures, the Tinubu-led government should also prioritize the protection and promotion of the rights of young people. This includes addressing issues such as gender-based violence, child marriage, and discrimination against marginalized groups of youth. By promoting inclusivity and equality, the government can create a more just and equitable society that benefits all Nigerians, ranging from young and the old.

Amb. Abdul concluded that, youth inclusivity should be a key priority for the incoming government under the watch of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. By appointing more young people to key positions in government, creating job opportunities, promoting education and skills development, and protecting the rights of young people, the government can create a more inclusive and prosperous society that benefits all Nigerians. With the right policies and initiatives, the Tinubu-led government can ensure that young people are not only included in decision-making processes, but are also given the tools they need to succeed and contribute to the development of the country.

Nairaland / General / Fani-kayode's Insensitive Comment Gradually Tearing Nigeria Apart - Group by PeterOnu(m): 4:26pm On Apr 06
History has shown that wars often start as verbal altercations before progressing into physical duels. This is why wise men don't hesitate to rebuke insensitive and inciting comments, especially when they are made by public figures. Therefore, the Nigerian Democratic Youth Front (NDYF) in a statement signed by its National President, Dr. Gideon Obong and her National Secretary, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Yahaya condemns in very strong terms the recent insensitive comment by a former minister of Aviation and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Femi Fani-Kayode wherein he insinuated that Muslims in Nigeria would have become an endangered species if the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi had been declared winner of the presidential election.

Fan-Kayode had in one of his recent senseless rants on Twitter attempted to defame Mr. Obi before our Muslim brothers and sisters by gloating that the purported leaked telephone conversation between him and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church makes him unfit to lead a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural state as a hater of non-Christians.

FFK threw away dignity and morality to spew venomous comments against Obi to please his paymasters ostensibly for speaking for the interest of Muslims and other non-Christians. Ironically, Fani-Kayode who is the one setting Nigeria up for another civil war with his inciting comments, has no moral basis to allege that Obi would have plunged Nigeria into a religious war within a few months if he had emerged as president. His hatred for Obi and inordinate desperation to please his paymasters did not allow him to be in tune with the reality - Peter Obi's media aide, Valentine Obienyem, has since discredited the purported leak audio saying his principal's conversation with Oyedepo was 'badly doctored'.

But a man driven by avarice and prejudice like Femi Fani-Kayode would even feign ignorance to get his already dirty self dirtier for scrubs.

Several groups including the Free Nigeria Movement have fingered Fani-Kayode's party, APC for being behind the failed blackmail. FFK particularly, wasted no time feasting on the stinking carcass of the poorly scripted blackmail. Similar insensitive comments by Fani-Kayode and his ilk fuelled unprecedented violence against non-Yoruba voters in Lagos State at the just-concluded governorship poll. Several lives were lost, no thanks to Femi's injudicious, uncultured and inflammatory speeches. His unruly behavior makes one wonder why such a despicable and disastrous fellow was appointed to speak for the presidential campaign council of a ruling party.

His track records show that he is a monomaniac glutton and an imbecilic bulldog, a political scavenger who is infamous for his political prostitution; a deadbeat father and a serial abuser of women; an incompetent fellow who failed in his home, career, business, and politics.

The Federal Government is endangering the unity of the country by tolerating his insensitive razzmatazz. His incessant incisive comments are setting the ground for Nigeria's disintegration. He needs to be quarantined out of sight for an urgent mental evaluation.

The APC government may choose the continued engagement of the folly and foolhardiness of Femi Fani-Kayode at the risk of widespread civil disturbance and national insecurity. FFK has earned the inglorious reputation of the worst threat to our national unity, peace and security.

We, therefore, call on the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security to arrest Femi Fani-Kayode within 48 hours, before he set the country in flames. We advise that he be detained in some psychiatric or permanent mental asylum. FFK is a rabies-infected dog that must be tamed before he spreads his rabies of ethnic sentiments, bile and hate that would be detrimental to our corporate existence as a nation.

Finally, we enjoin Nigerians, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, to disregard Fani-Kayode's fictitious, malicious and hallucinatory claim that Obi hates Muslims and non-Christians. Fani-Kayode, as we all know, is mentally deranged and should not be taken seriously.

Nairaland / General / JED Caution Erring Staff, Urges Customers To Promptly Pay Their Bills by PeterOnu(m): 6:04pm On Apr 05
By Peter Onu

The Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc has vowed to deal decisively with any staff caught implicated in financial malfeasance or defrauding customers or the company just as it urges customers not to hesitate in paying for their consumed energy.

The Managing Director, Engr Abudu Bello Mohammed made the declaration last Tuesday at the customer's sensitization on Band Upgrade at the company's ICT center, Tudun - Wada Jos.

Engr Mohammed who decried activities of some bad eggs in the system said it was unacceptable in all ramifications.

According to him, not less than 20 staff have been shown the hard way out of the company on account of criminalities stressing that "the company has a zero tolerance for corruption".

He urged customers and members of the public to promptly report erring staff to the management to stem the misdemeanors.

"You should help us to report any staff requesting money from you. You should not pay any illegal money to our staff. We are zero-tolerant of corruption", he said.

The Managing Director who said that it was the desire of the company for all its customers to enjoy uninterrupted power supply in its franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Plateau, and Gombe described the company as one of the best in terms of energy delivery in the country.

"Without sounding immodest, I am optimistic that you can at the moment attest to the regularity and stability of power supply in Plateau State ", he asserted.

Engr Mohammed however lamented that despite the regularity, stability, and reliability of electricity supply to the customers, they hardly reciprocate in terms of payment for their consumed energy.

He said, "The truth is that our postpaid customers hardly pay for their consumed energy just as some of our prepaid customers are also involved in energy thieveries".

He also disclosed that one of the vices militating against the operations of the company in Plateau State was the menace of vandalism.

Engr Mohammed who urged customers to take ownership of electricity installations in their localities to stem the tide of the hydra-head monster, vandalism disclosed that "No less than 20 Distribution Transformers have been vandalized in March in Plateau State alone".

In his presentation, the Cheif Technical Officer of the company, Engr Hamisu Jigawa who in his "Appraisal of Energy Intake and Ancillary Matters" disclosed that the failure of the customers to meet their financial obligations to the company was tremendously affecting the entire energy market.

According to him, " The bill you are paying goes not only to Jos Electricity Distribution Plc but the entire value chain as even those who supply gas to the Gencos are also beneficiaries".

Engr Jigawa,, therefore urged customers to endeavor to pay for their consumed energy to enable the company to serve them better.

On his part, the Chief Security Officer, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi who spoke on the negative impacts of vandalism also decried the menace of energy depredators and urged customers to endeavor to safeguard electricity facilities in their respective communities.

He advised the various communities on the Plateau to take a cue from their counterparts in Benue, Bauchi, and Gombe by ensuring the protection of the electricity facilities in their areas saying, "If they are vandalized, your communities would not only be plunged into darkness but would also have the socio-economic life truncated in addition to the attendant security burden".

Also speaking, Engr Anas disclosed that the company at the moment was waiting for the commencement of phase one of the National Mass Metering Program and urged customers to embrace Meter Asset Provider Scheme currently in place to be metered.

Nairaland / General / CSO Denounce Obi's Alleged Leaked Audio Phone Conversation With Oyedepo by PeterOnu(m): 10:12am On Apr 05
.... Urges Nigerians to ignore blackmail and focus on retrieving the mandate

By Benita Okoro

The Group under the auspices of the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD) has condemned the trending audio of a leaked phone conversation between the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, and the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo.

It also calls on Nigerians to ignore the blackmail and focus on retrieving the mandate they gave to Obi from those who stole it saying the wishes of the people expressed at the poll can never be suppressed.

At the press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the convener, Amb. Philip Roberts said those calling out Peter Obi today are nothing but a bunch of shameless hypocrites.

Citing section 37 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provided for the right to privacy of citizens, he said "Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to their privacy. Be it in their homes, communications with people by way of letters, telephone or telegraph is protected and guaranteed by the Constitution)."

According to him, "Those who leaked the purported telephone conversation acted in breach of a citizen's confidentiality and right to privacy, and it is malicious, callous, and criminal.

"For placing Obi's purported private conversation in the public domain, those behind this despicable plot are liable to criminal prosecution", he said

Speaking further, he said "We are aware that the All-Progressives Congress (APC) orchestrated this blackmail to distract Nigerians from challenging the party's purchased victory at the fraudulent presidential poll. The purported leaked audio conversation has APC's blackmail mill written all over it.

"The infamous political Almajeri has used his office as the Director, New Media APC Presidential Campaign Council to carry out similar dirty jobs before, especially against Tinubu's opponents.

Roberts said the ruling party has reduced politicking in Nigeria to cheap blackmailing and throwing tantrums. It is a pity that issue-based politics have been murdered by psychopathic sycophants and desperate politicians who thrive on blackmail and character assassination.

" It is a shame that a party that claimed to have won electoral victory has resorted to underhand practices and cheap blackmail against a purported loser instead of defending their purchased victory in court.

"We are even more angered by Femi Fani-Kayode's call to security agencies to "declare Obi a master terrorist" for purportedly "describing the election as a religious war".

"Let us not forget his recent inciting comments that fuelled unprecedented violence against non-Yoruba voters in Lagos State at the just-concluded governorship poll. Fani-Kayode is such a foul-mouthed imp and national disgrace.

We also want to use this medium to ask the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi to press charges against those who leaked and doctored his telephone conversation with Bishop Oyedepo.

" The leaked conversation is an invasion of his privacy. With incidents like this, one may be forced to ask how safe are Nigerian's telephone conversations.

"We, therefore, call on telecommunication companies in the country to rise to their responsibility of protecting their customers' privacy," he said.

Oh his part Ayodele Ogedengbe said Election is not war, reports has it that about 80 people were in the just concluded 2023 elections and it shouldn't be so.

Nairaland / General / Data-lead Africa Foundation Wins Uplink Corporate Changemakers Challenge by PeterOnu(m): 1:58pm On Mar 21
Creates first tech community of deaf people in Africa

…as over 200 deaf persons learn, work with tech, innovative solutions

THE Data-Lead Africa Foundation, DLAF, has emerged winner of the prestigious Uplink Corporate Changemakers Challenge 2023, organized by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, and as Nigeria’s first social enterprise to achieve the feat.

This was made known in a statement signed by Head of Operations, Data-Lead Africa, Engr Nkpecha Franklin.
The statement explained that the Schwab Foundation is a leading global platform that accelerates outstanding models of social innovation, and DLAF’s Deaf-In-Tech project has been recognized for its innovative approach to bridging the gap between the deaf community and the tech industry in Africa.

The statement reads in part, “DLAF made history as the first Nigerian social enterprise to win the Uplink Corporate Changemakers Challenge. The Corporate Changemakers Challenge received over 100 submissions from intrapreneurs across various industries, and DLAF was named alongside other global brands, including Ericsson, Givaudan International, Google.org, Mastercard, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Philips, and Zurich Insurance Company’s grassroots movement.

“Each winner was chosen based on their ability to contribute to social and environmental equity while adding value to their respective businesses.

“DLAF’s Deaf-In-Tech project is an ed-tech inclusion program focused on strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in STEM, data analytics, higher education, and employment.
It seeks to close the existing skill gap among marginalized people, particularly people living with disabilities (PLWD).

The statement also pointed that, “In low- and middle-income countries, PLWD are one of the key marginalized groups, and while many initiatives have focused on gender equality and racial diversity, initiatives working to improve the inclusion of PLWD are abysmally low.”

Before winning the challenge, DLAF has achievements that are globally recognized, one of them is creating the first tech community of deaf people in Africa.

“DLAF has created the first tech community of deaf people in Africa, currently the largest globally, with over 200 deaf persons learning and working on different tech and innovative solutions.

“The Deaf-In-Tech is focused on equitably upskilling the capacities of the deaf/hearing impaired and improving their employability through training in data analytics, edtech, and research methodologies.

“Data analytics is one of the most sought-after skills in labor, employment, and higher learning, and PLWD does not ordinarily have access to learn these skills due to their uniqueness and peculiar learning needs.

“DLAF’s win in the Corporate Changemakers Challenge is a testament to the power of social entrepreneurship in driving positive social and environmental impact while delivering value to businesses.

“DLAF and the other winners have demonstrated their commitment to making a significant impact on social and environmental issues while driving business value through social entrepreneurship”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, “The Deaf-In-Tech project has the potential to create a more inclusive and diverse tech industry in Africa, and we are committed to driving positive social impact for marginalized groups through social entrepreneurship.

“We extend our congratulations to all the winners, and we look forward to seeing how their initiatives will drive positive change in the world.”

Politics / Tinubu's Govt' Should Be Wary Of Recycling Politicians For Appointmen - Salamatu by PeterOnu(m): 1:49pm On Mar 21
An Abuja based Political Analyst Salamatu Umar Suleiman has cautioned the President-elect, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to stay away from recycling Politicians for appointments. He noted that The 2023 election has exposed the despotism of our political system.

The voting pattern was a clear indication that citizens are tired of these same people who haven’t impacted their lives positively in any way.

It wasn’t business as usual, where people will vote and be abandoned only to be revisited after every four years. We have seen the outright rejection of political whigs, most could not deliver their polling units talk more of their constituencies.

We have witnessed the fall of long term Senators that have been in the Senate for decades but could not retain their seats because they did not do the barest minimum for the people who elected them, serving governors who failed to deliver their states, governors who could not win their Senatorial seat and a party Chairman who couldn’t deliver his polling unit.

Most of these politicians have been in the system since they were in their thirties, being loyal and disloyal as the administration change hands, out of desperation to cling to power, jumping from one political party to the other pending on political rhythm of the season, an act which depicts lack of patriotism to political affiliation.

At a young age some of these politicians were opportune to be governors and ministers, some were recently stake holders in the outgoing administration but are still here sponsoring daily articles, lobbying and clamouring for same or key positions in a Government they tried hard to sabotage.

Isn’t this itself a loud indication of their failure? Does it mean they are the only ones capable of doing the job?

What haven’t they tried all these years that they intend to present now? Haven’t they mentored anyone? Isn’t it obvious they have lost political value? What have they and what can they bring to the table?

The President-elect is someone whom the young generation look up to, a breath of fresh air, seeing his selection and what he has done with Lagos and young people he has groomed over the years, not like other politicians, especially in the north were they want to retain their seats forever or make it an inheritance system by passing it and imposing their sons, wives, husbands and daughters. When will the son of the common man become somebody?

As the campaign slogan implies “Renewed Hope” The younger generation is hopeful the change we all desire for is here. The task ahead of the newly Elected APC Government is to ensure it paves the way for an overhaul of the system of Governance in the country, there is urgent need for the system to halt recycling political game players.

A study conducted reveals that the only way to harmonies challenges is for the in-coming government under the ruling party, APC, to ensure equity by retiring all the politicians that bootlicks it's corridors seeking national appointments and bringing in new breeds of younger generations, in order to tactically inject hope into the youthfulness of the greater tomorrow.

We hope Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu can become the messiah we all are awaiting by limiting his appointments based on capacity and delivery. We are categorically saying that all Ex-Governors, Ex-Ministers, Ex-Senators, Ex-Diplomats etc shouldn't be considered for any appointment, They should remain elder statesmen and advisors.

Young people with capacity and fresh ideas should be given a chance. This is a great concern for all who matter in the society, unless the camp of the old political retirees is hampered, there won't be equity and justice for the upcoming new breeds of politicians that can keep the flag flying.

Our leaders therefore, must be tasked with making good governance the driving force of our politics as we transition to a new administration.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu should make it work in order to renew the hope of the citizens.

Nairaland / General / Jos DISCO Not Responsible For The Otukpo – Obi Crisis In Benue by PeterOnu(m): 10:36pm On Mar 15
By Oriri Peter

The attention of the Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc has been drawn to insinuations being peddled by a group of persons that the crises between Otukpo (Idoma) and Obi (Igede) people of Benue State that have culminated in the destruction of property were orchestrated by the company.

In a statement issued by the Head of Cooperate Communications, Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah noted that the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc wishes to state categorically that the crisis was not occasioned by its operations.

It is a truism that in an attempt to detect faults in our networks whenever they occurred, the company installed various Isolators at Otobi Ipakangwu, Adum – East, and Deeper Life Camp in Oju. with these Isolators, when there are faults along their routes, they would be opened to enable our technical staff to trace the faults and attends to them expeditiously.

This was the case when our installations were greatly damaged by a windstorm occasioned by a heavy downpour last weekend in Otukpo and its environs.

The destruction puts the entire Otukpo axis of our operations into darkness which necessitated us to isolate the Oju, Ado, Ugbokolo, and Ankpa legs of our operations to enable us to attend to these faults to restore supply to our customers.

The entire Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to resolving the faults and restoring the power supply to Otukpo town. On Monday, our crew proceeded to fault tracing on Otobi Ipakangwu – Obi, Oju routes when they were told to go back that youth from Obi Local Government have been mobilized to go and destroy the Isolator situated in Otobi Ipakangwu. It was the attempts to destroy the Isolator by the Igede youth and the resistance by the Otobi Ipakangwu youth that led to the crisis as the Igede youth insisted that the Isolator must be destroyed.

Before this crisis, the company was not in receipt of any complaint from any quarter about the lack of power supply to the warring communities.

To the best of our knowledge, individuals and communities who have complaints about our operations were constantly enjoyed to complain to the company via any of our offices or social media channels, but that was not the case in this matter as no report to this effect was received officially or unofficially.

Given the foretasted, it is our candid belief that the remote causes of this crisis may be something different from the issue of Isolator or lack of power supply.

We, therefore urge the state government and the security agencies to critically interrogate the situation carefully with the view to unearthing the real causes and proffer lasting solutions that will forestall future occurrences.
Nairaland / General / UN Peace Ambassador, Dr. Ayishetu Call For Peaceful Election by PeterOnu(m): 10:15am On Feb 24
A CALL FOR PEACE DURING NIGERIAN’s 2023 ELECTION AND AFTER ELECTION BY HER EXCELLENCY AMBASSADOR DR. (MRS). ENAPE VICTORIA AYISHETU, PEACE AMBASSADOR TO UNITED NATION FOR NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION IN SPECIAL CONSULTATIVE STATUS ON ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (ECOSOC)

The necessity of peace in our wonderful country, Nigeria, has forced me to break my usual political silence at this time.

As things stand, we can only currently call Nigeria home. I'm not afraid to state that I'm proud to be a Nigerian. Consequently, it has become crucial for me to make this message of peace at this pivotal moment in our country's history. First and foremost, I want to express my profound gratitude to God for his protection and provision over our lives as Nigerians both inside and outside of Nigeria, despite the country's security issues and poverty, which thousands of lives were lost right in front of our eyes. We call for peace both before and after the 2023 election as we mourn those who have died in one way or another over the past few years while keeping our heads up and safeguarding the protection of the survivors.

A state of quietness or  tranquillity  is called peace. It is an environment in which people coexist peacefully without agitation, disruption, argument, insult, hostility, violence, fighting, or murder. When there is harmony between two people, a group of people, or a community and there is goodwill, love, kindness, understanding, peacefulness, justice, and serenity, there is peace.

THE CRITICALITY OF PEACE DURING AND AFTER ELECTION: It is important to emphasize the peaceful environment both during and after the 2023 elections. It is significant to mention that for a prosperous and better future in our nation of Nigeria, peace is crucial. Brother or sister, life goes on after the election. Election should be viewed as such because it is not the end of our lives. A peaceful election will improve the lives of Nigerians and pave ways for their peaceful coexistence. Peace makes it possible and simple for our nation to advance, develop, grow, be happy, build trust, and cooperate. Our nation needs peace for peaceful cooperation, to lessen stress, depression, worry, and terror, and to prevent premature death. It is for advancement, development, growth, enjoyment, etc. Both international cooperation and direct foreign investment will be encouraged. Respect for law and order, respect for human lives and dignity, acceptance of difference, respect for each other, love and peace that promotes long life and prosperity are all welcomed.

Elections come and go, and regardless of whether it favor some people or not, we are expected to get on with our daily lives. We still have more opportunities ahead of us, which should give everyone who cares about Nigeria comfort. Elections shouldn't be life or death situations for everybody engaged. The road's bend is never the conclusion of the journey. Your life is what matters most because there is hope when there is life. In the end, we are no better than others who have passed away in the previous several years, months, days, or even yesterday/today. Hence, if you lose, accept it graciously because you can always try again later. Keep in mind that the current President Muhammadu Buhari ran for office numerous times before being elected in 2014.

AVOID THE FOLLOWING IN THE INTERESTS OF PEACE DURING AND AFTER ELECTION:

Please ensure that there is justice and fairness at the polling places in all the states that make up the federal government.

In order for Nigerians to elect the leaders of their choice without coercion, force, manipulation, etc., there must not be any vote-buying of any form. Given that a good and trustworthy leader won't impose themselves on others, let the citizens choose their leaders by themselves.

Government representatives who will be present at polling places and coalition centers nationwide need to act fairly. Keep in mind that there's always someone observing you and what you do (THE ALMIGHTY GOD). He cannot be tricked or bought. We might find it interesting that God Almighty cares about maintaining the peace among His people and would fight against anyone who tries to use this election to obliterate lives and property. We are therefore urged to exercise caution in all that we do during this specific election in order to protect ourselves.

No violence should occur for whatever reasons. Please cast your vote for whoever candidate you want without hesitation, and act appropriately. Make sure there are no spaces left at the voting unit for dispute of any kind.

And for those who have lost credibility and have chosen to take advantage of our people's current hardship and poverty to spend our hard-earned Nigeria money on vote buying just to impose themselves on Nigerians against their will, please try to do it well this time around to show Nigerians that you are not one of those corrupt politicians who always buy their ways in either by hook or by crook for their selfish reasons, which can never be in the country's best interest. We need a free and fair election, don't attempt to interfere with the process of this very election in the interest of peace of our country.

All political thugs are urged to retire from politics immediately, sit down, and reflect on their own lives, the lives of their children, the health of their immediate and extended families, and the future of Nigeria before laying down their weapons for the sake of peace in our nation. Please refuse to allow your brother or sister, whom the Almighty God created because of election, to be used to end human lives. Let's make this election peaceful so that history will remember us. Elections shouldn't be fought in.

Please I advise you, no one should be made to vote for a certain candidate at the polls; instead, everyone should be allowed to cast their ballots in accordance with their conscience.

In order to avoid being utilized by one political party against another for any reason, security officers should perform their duties.

Finally, I urge each and every voter to vote in the election. Choosing corrupt leaders through coercion, manipulation, inducement, intimidation, or by force would be very harmful for us as a nation, so I would want to pray that the Almighty God would guard us, lead us, and direct us. Citizens that are not corrupt can never be produced by a corrupt leader. With these few words, I believe that our nation will be a better place if every citizen heeds this invitation or call for peace made today, February 24, 2023. Election will begin tomorrow February 25, 2023. I  wish everyone luck in the elections.

Respectfully yours;

H.E Amb. (Mrs). Enape Victoria Ayishetu,PhD, FCCA,FCTI,FCFP,FCT,FCE,FCFA,FCE,CPFA,CFE,MNIM

Nairaland / General / 2023: Benue Youth Resolve To Vote Peter Obi Over Atiku & Tinubu by PeterOnu(m): 2:28pm On Feb 22
The leadership and members of the Benue Youth Forum, BYF had an expanded Town Hall Meeting earlier today, Wednesday, the 22nd of February, 2023 in Makurdi, Benue State. The meeting was imperative due to the urgency to put some things in perspective ahead of the 2023 general election, beginning with the presidential and national assembly polls this Saturday.

The Convener who double as the President of the Benue Mr. Terrence Kunaum noted that they have been in the trenches for over seven years now, fighting the course of our people who have become endangered and targets of incessant attacks by Fulani militiamen.

Within the period under review, we have been called names by some naysayers within and outside the state. We have suffered a series of verbal attacks, faced unprecedented intimidation and molestation by security operatives detailed by our enemies to protect them. But we have remained undaunted.

It is also on record that we have never relented in shouting to the ears of those who we expect to care that our people are facing the threats of going into extinction due to the heinous activities of sponsored and well-protected terrorists who are bent on eliminating us and annexing our ancestral lands.

Even those in authority, especially at the centre, have tagged us alarmists and rabble-rousers because of our insistence on ensuring that our people are allowed to stay in their ancestral homes and do their farming and other activities without any fear.

Sadly, the attacks have not abetted as the Fulani militia who have sworn not to obey the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of Benue state are constantly on rampage, killing villagers in their sleep and attacking even those in internally displaced persons, IDPs camps. What could be more callous?

Most worrisome is the fact that the terrorists are enjoying the sympathy of some Fulani elites including the former emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido who was dethroned for indiscipline, corruption and incitement of the people to violence in Kano and other parts of the north.

All these and other factors necessitated this town hall meeting which, as I said earlier, was convened to look at issues dispassionately and take a position. The meeting had youths from the three senatorial zones of Benue State and vital resolutions were reached.

RESOLUTIONS

The resolutions reached at the end of the Town Hall Meeting are that:

1. The Benue Youth Forum will mobilize its members across the state to participate actively in the 2023 elections and shall ensure that youths are not involved in any act of violence during the polls;

2. The Forum wants the political class to avoid any attempt at using the youth for violence as that would not be in the best interests of the system and peaceful elections;

3. The Benue Youth Forum urges all Benue People to go out an exercise their franchise responsibly without fear of molestation;

4. The security agencies and electoral officials should be professional in the discharge of their duties to enable people make their choices and have their votes count. Any attempt to subvert the will of the people shall be resisted.

5. The BYF is solidly behind Governor Samuel Ortom’s endorsement of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP Peter Obi for the presidential election as only Mr Obi is disposed to tackling the plethora of challenges facing the country and Benue in particular.

6. We reiterate our support for Peter Obi’s candidature and make it bold to say we are going out in our numbers come Saturday, February 25 to cast our votes for him to give him the well-deserved mandate to drag Nigeria out of the abyss.

7. We urge the people of Benue to shun the other presidential candidates, especially Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who has on different occasions, justified the killings in Benue as he has no intention of putting an end to the incessant massacre of the people if elected, even though we are sure that he has no chance of winning the election.

8. The BYF also calls on Benue people to vote Governor Ortom for the Benue North-West senatorial seat as well as other PDP candidates in the national assembly elections.

9. The Forum implores the electorates to beware of those who are romancing with enemies of the state and show their anger at the ballot by voting only those who are interested in the security and welfare of the people.

10. We also advise the people to shun those who have promised to cede our ancestral lands to Fulani herders and vote Rt. Honourable Titus Uba of the PDP in the Governorship election and other candidates of the party for the House of Assembly polls come March 11, 2023.

There is no doubt that this election is about the survival of our people and the future of the country. We cannot fold our arms and watch our people being misled into making mistakes that shall cost us more years of anguish.

That is why we expect all to queue behind Governor Ortom who has seen the light and is leading the state to the path where our penury shall be over.

Once again, let’s vote Peter Obi for President, Samuel Ortom and other PDP Senatorial candidates, as well as the House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates. We are convinced that Titus Uba is the right person for the 2023 Governorship of Benue State.

Nairaland / General / Jos DISCO Educate Benue Customers On Band Upgrade by PeterOnu(m): 8:41am On Feb 18
Moved by the need to upgrade some feeders in Benue State to higher bands to increase electricity supply to the customers, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc last Thursday carried out a sensitization of customers in Makurdi.

The customers according to a statement by the Head, Corporate Communications, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah were drawn from feeders in Otukpo, Gboko and Makurdi.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed explained to the customers that the sensitization exercise was meant to conscientize customers on the implications of migrating them to a higher band.

Engr Mohammed who was represented by the Regional Manager, Makurdi Region, Mr Joseph Terfa Kwaghgba said "in whom much is given, much is expected".

"We invited you here to inform you that we have upgraded your feeders to higher bands because we want you to enjoy an almost uninterrupted power supply but let it be known that your tariff will change to the current reality. Your monthly energy charge will now be more than what you were paying before".

To support this upgrade, Management had seriously invested billions of naira in solidifying the company's network stressing that, "our staff are readily on the ground to expeditiously attend to faults. We want to serve you in such a manner that will gladden your hearts. Our customers are our kings and we, therefore crave to serve you to your satisfaction".

To familiarise customers with the upgraded bands, the Head of Customers Care, Mr Lucky Akpobi displayed all the newly upgraded feeders with their new tariffs.

He urged customers to brace up for the new reality which he said would guarantee them more energy supply stressing that "as you take more energy, you should also endeavour to pay for your consumed energy as at when due. The energy is not free".

In his presentation, the Chief Security Officer of the company, Mallam Musa Abdullahi who decried the high spate of vandalism on the company's network called on the customers to take ownership of electricity installations in their domains.

Abdullahi explained that apart from the negation of security of the community whose transformers or other installations were vandalized, the economic and social activities will be dislocated as the affected communities would find themselves in a state of quandary.

To halt the tide, the Chief Security Officer, therefore, urged customers to help protect electricity facilities in their various localities.

Nairaland / General / Jos DISCO Seeks Military Support To Protect Infrastructures by PeterOnu(m): 10:33am On Feb 15
The Managing Director/CEO of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed has called on the military particularly the Nigeria Airforce to help in safeguarding the company’s installation from vandalism.

The Managing Director made the call last Tuesday when the newly deployed Commander of the 551 Nigerian Airforce Base, Jos paid him a courtesy visit.

The Company’s Head, Regional Operations, Engr John Emeruwa who represented the Managing Director disclosed that the rate at which vandals were decapitating distribution transformers in Plateau State was alarming.

In a statement issued by Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah Head, Corporate Communications, the Managing Director said, “almost on a daily bases, not less than seven to ten transformers are being vandalized in our franchise Area of Plateau, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe States. This is impinging on our operations. We want to plead with you to help us in the areas of provision of security for these assets to enable us to continue serving the public “.

According to the Managing Director, the company was overwhelmed by the nefarius activities of this category of criminals who wilfully embarked on the destruction of electrical installations to cart away armoured cables and transformer oils for illicit business.

Engr Mohammed explained that “if not for the activity of these felons, the company would have been vaunting about 20 hours and above daily supply in all our franchise states because we are one of the best Discos in the country when it comes to effective and quantitative energy distribution”.

While commending the Airforce in the areas of payment for their consumed energy, Engr Mohammed urged the force to endeavour to be paying their monthly energy charge in full in addition to liquidating their huge outstanding debts.

“We know that the Nigerian Air Force is seriously trying by paying part of their monthly energy charge but it is not enough. You need to step up the payments to enable us to meet the market obligations”, pleaded the Managing Director.

Earlier, the Commander, of Nigerian Air Force, 551 Base, Jos, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet said his visit was to familiarize himself with the management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc as the two institutions play complementary roles in the security of the state stressing that “there is a relationship between security and light”.

He urged the company not to hesitate in attending to their electricity supply need expeditiously when called upon especially since the Nigerian Airforce has not stopped in terms of payment for their consumed energy.

He promised that the Nigerian Air Force would within its mandate give adequate support to the company, especially in the protection of facilities.

Nairaland / General / 2023 Poll: General Enenche Urge Voters To Support Peter Obi by PeterOnu(m): 9:40am On Feb 13
A former spokesman of the Nigerian Army Maj Gen John Enenche (rtd) has send a strong message to Nigerians ahead of the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

The former Military General urged Nigerians to vote Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Read His Full Statement Below

Dear Nigerians, we have all heard and seen our various presidential candidates, as they campaigned for the 2023 general elections.

I believe we have equally observed them objectively bearing the following in mind; genetic partisan corruption, unjustifiable insecurity, ineptitude and bad governance among others, that resulted to brazen poverty and suffering for the populace.

In a clinical and scholarly assessment of the campaigns, it’s Mr Peter Obi and
Senator Yusuf Datti Baba- Ahmed; of the Labour Party that will give Nigerians
the needed leadership.

Reach out for the sake of those who may still be undecided or under the clutches of the old political brigade. Remind them of the exposures of the campaigns. Surely, there will be change of perceptions, minds and decisions in favour of HE Mr Peter Obi and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba – Ahmed.

Just a few days ago, on the 9 February, a coalition of Mega NGOs and Cooperative Support Groups (COMENGCOSUG), with about 40 million verifiable members in all the six geopolitical zones and 774 local governments of the country, endorsed the Obi-Datti ticket. I was there. Your guess about the impact on 25th February is as good as mine.

At this crescendo, passionately communicate to your constituency; that our valley of decision towards the delivery of Nigerians from our political captors is
25 February 2023.

Let us get out of the dark valley of bondage to the bright mountain top of victory. Vote Labour Party.

Thank you and God bless.

Nairaland / General / Opinion: In Respect Of The Man Demanding The Refund Of His Tithe by PeterOnu(m): 10:36am On Feb 10
The church of God is God's embassy representing the Kingdom of God on earth. The church exists to spread the good news of God's Kingdom, and demonstrate God's love and goodness to mankind. The church is therefore an agency for the administration of God's welfare package to humanity.
Every genuine church exists to give and not to take, to help and not to hinder, to enrich and not to impoverish, to feed and not to starve her members.

In the same manner, the instructions of God as contained in the Holy Scripture are for the profit of man. God instructs us to our profit (Isaiah 48:17). No teaching of God's Word by a genuine pastor is intended to extort money from people or cause losses to them.
Furthermore, the earth and the riches thereof belongs to God (Psalm 24:1). God is too rich to depend on man. Therefore, no genuine church or servant of God is after the resources of the people. The people come to church to be helped spiritually, physically, emotionally, materially, financially, maritally, etc.
As touching givings in church, they are done based on personal conviction and leading, no coercion or persuasion involved.

It is therefore preposterous, callous, and devilish for someone of Mazi Chukwudiaso Onyema to call out a church in a media for the refund of tithes allegedly paid willingly and not by coercion. This is an unwarranted assault on the church. It is the height of insanity and foolhardiness, and the consequences may be too grave for him to bear, except for the mercy of God.

Even if the man in question was not a Christian, and he is stranded, in dire need of assistance, he could be assisted by the church. And if he is a member, the church would not ask for his tithe records before assisting him.
The pastor who is now the target of this man's blackmail is known for his impeccable integrity. He had rounded off major services many times without remembering to take offerings, only to be reminded by worshippers; he had refunded offerings given to him by the sick and challenged in need of divine intervention; he does not take worship offering on crusade grounds with tens of thousands of people in attendance, even though it cost hundreds of millions of naira to conduct a single crusade.

Moreover, the man of God and the church are known for their philanthropic endeavours to individuals, communities and institutions. The church and the man of God give scholarship to innumerable indigent students, undertake community development endeavours like road construction, rural electrification, provision of classrooms to public schools, boreholes to communities, humanitarian responses to victims of emergency and crises situations, monthly welfare ministration to orphanages, economic empowerment to widows and the less privilege, etc.

The question is, how much is this man's total tithes compared to the amount of money used in the above projects?

Won't the church assist a man with this level of self-destructive frustration if he ever approached her for help? But unfortunately, he never did.

Why did he take to social media to vent his grievances without first approaching the church for assistance if money was what he truly needed?
It is either he is mentally deranged or perhaps, being sponsored to embark on public blackmail against the man of God and the church.

Therefore, think twice before you join him to blackmail the church. This is not the time to vilify the church and men of God. The church remains the greatest source of hope and inspiration in our nation today.

In conclusion, if the man genuinely needs help, let him retract his statement, seek forgiveness from God and approach the church for assistance. The church can assist him, not only financially, but in rescuing him from earthly and eternal damnation by restoring his sanity and spiritual health.
