A member of an armed robbery gang who gave his name as Afeez said he used the proceeds he got from armed robbery to send his daughter to school. Afeez and his partner Wasiu were apprehended recently by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos at a checkpoint in Mushin while on their way to an operation.

According to the police, the young men boarded a taxi at Oshodi around 11pm and were heading to Mushin when they came across a police checkpoint. Seeing the police checkpoint ahead, they became jittery, commanding the cab man to stop them and even tried forcing the door open. The taxi driver suspecting that they were criminals drove quickly to the police checkpoint where he immediately intimated the police officers of his suspicions. European Union delegation who are part of a team of election monitors from the EU has urged just re-elected Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, to file a lawsuit over the abuses committed by security agents that were deployed to the state by the Presidency during last Saturday’s governorship election.

Phillip Katongu, a man who comes from Wamba, Nasarawa State, has been arrested by the operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos for allegedly stabbing his wife to death.
According to the police report, his late wife Justina was stabbed in three places in their home in Oniru Estate, Maroko, Lagos.

Katongu revealed that he has a wife in Nasarawa, and the deceased was his second wife. He tried to commit suicide after killing his wife, but neighbours forced their way in and immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital.

Two officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Obokun LGA of Osun state have been arrested for diverting sensitive voting materials ahead of tomorrow's governorship election in the state.

Graphic new video footage from northeastern Nigeria shows the country's military carrying out abuses against civilians as part of their fight against the armed group Boko Haram, human rights group Amnesty International has said.

One video, obtained by Amnesty and released on Tuesday, shows what appear to be military personnel and civilian vigilantes calling five detainees out from a row of 16 young men and boys, then slitting their throats one by one before dumping their bodies into an open grave.

The discovery of a baby placenta in the residence of a man, identified simply as Alfa Gani, is causing confusion in the Laduba community, Ogidi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

A hospital has been sealed off and its workers and patients quarantined due to an Ebola disease scare in Anambra State today.
According to the Anambra Commissioner of Health, Josephat Akabuike, the measure followed information received by the government that a man whose body was brought back from Liberia at the weekend, might have died of the killer disease.
