The "televisor" permitted “looking in as well as listening in”

We may live in an era of streaming, portable devices and virtual reality, but Google used its latest Doodle to celebrate the humble television.

The Doodle marks the 90th anniversary of the first public demonstration of the mechanical television. On Jan. 26, 1926, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird transmitted a moving image of his business partner’s face onto a screen, according to the Telegraph.

The image was blurred and measured only 3.5 by 2 in. (8.8 by 5 cm) but made history as the first live public broadcast.

In a 1926 review of the “televisor,” as the device was known, TIME praised Baird’s devise for permitting “looking in as well as listening in.” Broadcasting for the receiver, which was priced at £30, was set “to begin at once.”

My Maths teacher back then in secondary school had this way of punishing us anytime we failed to do our Maths assignment. He would ask us to copy 4 pages from Geoffrey & Siddons and submit it to him the following day.Now, Geoffrey & Siddons is a four figure table we are using then in our school courtesy of Mr Oyadina our Maths teacher. He blatantly refused to use the WAEC recommended copies stating that they were full of errors.l remember sleepless nights l had then copying out those tiny figures and woe betide you if you fail to submit it promptly first thing the following day.l served this punishment for like 8 times then-that till now l know all the Logarithm, Antilogarithm, Cosine,Sine etc by heart.l later discovered that he was right about the erroneous WAEC model four figure table then.
