On Sunday night at his Fortyfied concert, music legend 2face Idibia pleaded with D’banj and his estranged partner Don Jazzy to consider reuniting with a view to treat their fans to something better. 2face begged them in the name of God, to do just one more song together. This happened right after D’banj had performed a song he did with 2face ‘I’m Feeling Good’ which was produced by Don Jazzy. Apparently impressed by the output, 2face told both of them openly: “Don Jazzy and D’banj, abeg make una do one more song, just one. I take God beg una.” D’banj responded saying: “Sure! It’s going to happen”. http://www.gltrends.com/i-beg-two-of-you-dbanj-don-jazzy-to-come-back-together-2face-idibia/ |
Fuji star, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma has reacted to the suspension of a Redeemed Church Pastor, Toyin Ogundipe who was said to have paid him to perform at a crusade slated to hold in one of the parishes in Lagos Island. The Fuji star declared that, although, the church’s management paid for the show, it is never done to expect him to pay back the “artiste fee” saying, “the fault is not ours, we were ready to perform for them until we learnt of the cancelation of the crusade”. City People reports that, the Pastor in charge of Province 20 of the Redeemed Church had invited Pasuma to perform at the Church’s forthcoming crusade titled, “Lagos Island Family Areas Forum” between Friday, October 23rd- Sunday 25th, 2015. Pasuma’s picture appeared on the handbill advert and posters alongside gospel singer, Tope Alabi and a former band leader of the late Fela Anikulapo’s Egypt 80 band, Kereke Jike. The decision to stop the programme was because the church headquarters felt the Pastor had gone too far by inviting a secular artiste such as Pasuma to its church programme. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the organisers did not do a detailed consultation before going ahead with the programme. He also said that it was as a result of it that the programme was cancelled and the Pastor in charge of the church along with the organising committee suspended as they now await further sanction from the provisional headquarters for dragging the name of the church in the mud. investigations by City People reveal that The Redeemed Christian Church of God clearly frowns at the use of secular musicians, a development which has been clearly stated in its handbook to Pastors. http://www.chuzzyblog.com/2015/09/pasuma-reacts-to-suspension-of- redeemed.html |

No Nigerian university is in the first 700 higher institutions of learning in the world and the first 18 in Africa, according to the QS World University Rankings 2015/16. However, South Africa has nine institutions while Egypt has five. Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have one institution each. “This is the 12th edition of QS’s annual ranking of the world’s top universities, which uses six performance indicators to a$$ess institutions’ global reputation, research impact, staffing levels and international complexion,” the report said. In Africa, the University of Cape Town, South Africa, is ranked first on the continent and 171st in the world. The Stellenbosch University, South Africa, is rated second in Africa and 302nd in the world. The University of the Witwatersrand is the third on the continent and 331st globally. On the global scale, the Ma$$achusetts Institute of Technology, United States, scored 100 per cent to retain its top spot in the QS rankings for the fourth year consecutively. Harvard University (US) climbed two places to rank second, followed by the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), and Stanford University (US) in joint third. MIT came first in the 2012 global rating – a position which Harvard and Cambridge universities had once occupied – and has remained there ever since. “The primary aim of the QS World University Rankings is to help students make informed comparisons of leading universities around the world,” stated the report. “Based on six performance indicators, the rankings are designed to a$$ess universities in four areas: research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. Each of the six indicators carries a different weighting when calculating the overall scores (see below). Four of the indicators are based on ‘hard’ data, and the remaining two are based on major global surveys – one of academics and another of employers – each the largest of their kind.” The reports said the universities were placed on 40 per cent scale of academic reputation; employer reputation, 10 per cent; student-to-faculty ratio, 20 per cent; citations per faculty, 20 per cent; international faculty ratio, five per cent; and international student ratio, five per cent. A total of 82 countries are represented in the QS World University Rankings this year, with the largest shares claimed by the US (154), UK (71), Germany (43) and France (41). Japan has 38 entries; Australia, 33; China, 30; Canada and Italy, 26 apiece; Brazil, 22; and Russia 21. After the US, UK, Switzerland and Singapore, the highest entry is claimed by Australia, with the Australian National University in joint 19th. France makes its first appearance with the École Normale Supérieure (ENS Paris) in 23rd place, followed by Canada’s McGill University in 24th. China’s top entrant, Tsinghua University, climbs 22 places to rank 25th while the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology gains 12 positions to reach 28th. http://www.gltrends.com/too-bad-no-nigerian-university-was-among-the-worlds-best-700-universities-in-the-world/ |

For the last five years, a Seattle-based couple who married in 2002 have dressed, traveled, cooked, eaten, and entertained themselves as if they lived in the 19th century. Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman do not use cell phones, internet, modern transport and sneakers .They bough an1888-built house.Sarah wears a corset all day, every day. Gabriel, a library and information science academic, wears authentic gold-rimmed 19th century gla$$es. Their home, built in 1888, is equipped with oil-powered lamps, and doesn’t have an electric fridge or oven. Clothes are washed in a bucket of room- temperature water. For entertainment, Sarah reads 1890s editions of Cosmopolitan, or the couple go for a cycle ride on their pennyfarthings. They both see the pursuit as academic research – far more intense than any sociological study they have encountered on the subject. But it is also a lifestyle. Writing for Vox, Sarah reveals some of the more aggressive reactions leveled at them: ‘We live in a world that can be terribly hostile to difference of any sort. Societies are rife with bullies who attack nonconformists of any stripe (…) We have been called “freaks,” “bizarre,” and an endless slew of far worse insults. ‘We’ve received hate mail telling us to get out of town and repeating the word “kill … kill … kill.” Every time I leave home I have to constantly be on guard against people who try to paw at and grope me. ‘Dealing with all these things and not being ground down by them, not letting other people’s hostile ignorance rob us of the joy we find in this life — that is the hard part. By comparison, wearing a Victorian corset is the easiest thing in the world.’ Culled from Mailonline
