It's with utmost displeasure that i express my dissatisfaction on the ungratifying attitude and leadership of nans. Recall, many months back, the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) started with a warning strike which eventually turned to an indefinite strike. It's unfortunate those we elected as leaders have forgotten their obligations, they now play a filthy shameful political maneuver. How do we convince the coming generations that "education is the key?", when our leaders failed to invest in education. As part of the reason why nans exist and its duties and obligations is to fight for the interest of Nigerian students and ensuring their rights are not being ignored and denied. So disheartening that the association no longer fight for our interest but their own interest hoping to enrich their dry pocket and gain influx, they have all failed integrity and it's disappointing. What a shame!!. If ASUU's strike can linger for over 8months and nothing is being done by nans,it shows they had lost their voice, why then is the association existing?. All these pot bellied comrades have nothing to offer as far as NANS is concerned. When the recent global president (Com. Bamidele Akpan) was impeached due to misappropriation of funds and his vice( com.chidi ilogebe) took up the mantle of leadership, comrade chidi organized a protest to ameliorate the lingering ASUU strike but he later suspended it due to an unknown reason. This is a show of lack incredibility. Let it be known that youth is an identity, not an ideology. Nigerian students doesn't want those who are old enough to be grandfather running the affairs of NANS. Let the change begin now. Enough is enough!!!!!! https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/12/nans-toothless-bull-dog-emmanuel-apara.html Emmanuel Apara Department of Geology Federal university oye ekiti.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU has revealed that the ongoing industrial action will not exceed next year 2021. It could be recalled that the ASUU Strike which started with a warning strike in the march 2020 later degenerated into an official nationwide strike since March 2020 over demands for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement and also Others are outstanding earned academic allowances. In a bid to suspend the overdue strike, The Federal Government of Nigeria has pleaded with the striking lecturers to return to the classroom after offering to pay the sum of 70Billion out of the 110Billion that was demanded by the striking lecturers. The federal government through the ministry of Education headed by Adamu Adamu last In a bid to end the eight-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government through the ministry of Education headed by Adamu Adamu last week reconstituted its team on the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with ASUU. On the part of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that promised to get back to the federal government after meeting with its branches to consider the offer given by the federal government, the scheduled meeting did not hold due to some unforeseen circumstance. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has revealed that the ongoing strike may be called off in the first week of January, 2021. The Union stated clearly that the Nigerian government can't be trusted and as such lecturers will not resume academic activities until the government pays all the earned salaries of the striking teachers. The Union frantically urged students to get ready to resume in all campuses starting from 3rd of January, 2021 as lectures kickoff immediately. It further revealed that the strike will be called off between 1st to 4th of January 2021, this is because the federal government had agreed to pay all earned salaries of lecturers on 31st of December, 2020. It could also be recalled that the striking teachers distanced themselves from resuming until the federal government released all the earned salaries of the striking lectures and the federal government agreed to pay 70 billion to ASUU on 31st of December, 2020. Some university students on Thursday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to consider the students’ future and resume work in their various institutions. Some of the students, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, expressed worries and lamented as they appealed for the suspension of the prolonged strike. The students said that they were tired and frustrated due to the time wasted without any academic achievement. They said that the strike would make them remain in the university more than it was necessary. Source: https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/12/ASUU-reveals-date-to-suspend-strike.html

The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has elected Professor Adebola Ekanola as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University. Ekanola, the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, is from the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts. Ekanola is to take over from the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, whose tenure ends today, November 30, 2020. Also, the House went against a sole candidature for the position, thereby resolving that candidates should be nominated for the position, out of which an Acting VC will emerge. The meeting was later presided over by the Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun when Adeyemo was nominated.. The Senate members, therefore, nominated five candidates: Professors Adebola Ekanola, Olanike Adeyemo (current serving DVCs) Adigun Agbaje, Gbemisola Oke (former DVCs), and Ayo Oluleye from the Department of Industrial & Production Engineering. After the nomination, the House went on ten minutes break and the period was used for the accreditation of the Senate members to put the nominations to vote. Student Union leaders across the South West have threatened to employ every legal means to confront the Federal Government on the issue of the strike action currently embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). This was made known at a press conference organised by the South West division of the Universities Students’ Union Presidents. The conference, which held at the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Building (SUB) on Thursday 12th November, had in attendance students from various universities all over the geopolitical zone, as well as Pressmen from different media houses. While giving his speech, the president of the University of Ilorin Students’ Union, Comrade Wisdom Oluwaseun Okoko emphasised that it was necessary to hold the conference in order to bring to public notice, the grievances of students, who have spent almost eight months outside their classrooms. “We cannot continue to keep quiet and watch”, he emphasised. In his own speech, the leader of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Akeju Olusegun, expressed sadness over the current state of the country’s education sector. In his statement, he said, “The issue of ASUU Strike is killing us as Nigerian students”. He also mentioned that instead of teaching students, the system is rather punishing them. According to a release signed by the student leaders, they requested for an immediate resolution between the two parties who are presently at loggerheads. “We, the great students of the federation, hereby request for an end to the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The struggle of ASUU should never be undermined as we all truly know, a revitalisation and improvement in the quality of infrastructure and regulation of payment of salaries is direly needed. In spite of this, we urgently call for a compromise to be reached by both parties. The future of students is at stake. Some have lost faith in the education in this country and it is a great slap on the face of the nation. Not every parent or guardian can afford to send their children to Private Universities. Even some Missionary Universities that should offer respite are so expensive that some of their members can’t afford the tuition. Believe us when we say that a lot is at stake here. An Igbo adage says, ‘Does a person whose house is currently burning chase rats around the house?’. This rat hunt has been on for too long and ENOUGH is ENOUGH”. The leaders ended the demands in their release by words of threat, which read, “In lieu of the above, we hereby give the federal government the ultimatum of seven (7) days to resolve the crisis and get us back to school, else, there would be an aggressive nationwide agitation thereafter”. When asked whether the proposed protest would not lead to violence, as observed during the recent nationwide #EndSARS protests, one of the leaders promised that it would be well planned and properly coordinated so that hoodlums do not take advantage of it to initiate civic unrest in the nation. https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/11/resolve-ASUU-strike-in-7-days-or-expect.html?m=1 Source: Campus Verve NG

During the week, the news made the rounds that celebrity couple, Simi and Adekunle Gold, had welcomed their first child in the United States. In light of this, many of their fans thronged to their social media handles to congratulate and celebrate the award-winning songstress who had announced that she was expecting her first child through her latest single titled, ‘Duduke’. However, when Saturday Beats reached out to a close source to the couple who preferred anonymity, the source confirmed that Simi was currently abroad with her husband and mother but had not put to bed. The source, while thanking fans for the congratulatory messages, noted that the couple would announce the birth of their child when it happens. “Simi is still pregnant but she will give birth any time from now. We are expecting the news at any moment. Her family is with her abroad. She was there before the release of ‘Duduke’ video. Right now, she has slowed down with some of her works but she has not given birth. Whenever Simi puts to bed, everybody would know,” the source said. The couple has always kept part of their private life out of the social media space. Their 2019 wedding was a private affair which was attended by only close family and friends who didn’t share photos or videos of the couple or the wedding ceremony on social media. Fans, however, caught a glimpse of the wedding when the couple released a music video that captured some of the joyful moments. https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/05/simi-still-heavily-pregnant-has-not.html?m=1 Source: The Punch

CAMPUS TORI. Hi. Welcome to Campus Tori. We just launched this Column on Campus Verve to provide first class entertainment and comic gists and stories on Campuses in Nigerian Varsites. Sit, Enjoy and Hit the share links below to share with your friends! Hello my people! If you hear say E don happen, E don happen be that o. This Corona Bambus abi na virus of a thing don affect all of us wey be students so tey, we go just sit-down at home; dey press phone from morning till night. We con dey lonely as if we be singles . I dey sure say, the major reason why many of us dey miss school no be because of classes, grades or exams. Na because of that babe or guy wey you don dey eye abi knack for school. My brother, my sister, E go be! I'll be bringing back hilarious, amazing and thrilling experiences and spots from school to our memories again this break. Today, I'll be doing a list of places where Romance go open in the University of Ibadan. It's the scope of the Romantic Ambience of the School. For Fresh Students who have not resumed school yet, you may not find this as fun as it should be. Just hang on, continue and get experiences before hand. #1. Indomie Stand : I resumed school as a freshman sometimes last year. You know, as a fresher, you'd want to explore and tour round school and of course, have fun to its fullest, because for some of us, this might be the first opportunity we'd have to be away from parents and exposed to 100% freedom. These I did, but it almost went wrong . The first week of Resumption was kinda free. Registrations weren't going seriously as expected and classes had nor started either. I went out one a fateful day to tour, I saw an indomie Stand and walked in to eat, tho, I wasn't hungry . I met two ladies seated opposite me. I thought I was in my village or street, so I greeted them calmly and offered to buy them food and drinks. They agreed sharp sharp. . After the order was placed, then I just realized that I intended eating there too . But by this time, I had exhausted all the money on me. I spent 3k as a Father Christmas on strangers I've not set my eyes upon till now. I strongly doubt if they were freshers . The indomie Stand at the back of the Independence Hall, and very close to Queen Idia Hall, is a wonderful place for open Romance in UI. It's usually filled up with students at nights especially (and of course, students in pairs ). If you go here as a guy, something will push you to spend (like ikr), but I'd advise you to spend wisely. Some girls have no chills . #2. You and I food building (U & I) : usually, Students in pairs are seen in large numbers in front of the Queen Idia Hall gate - these ones are LEGENDS. The very shy ones are the ones who move downwards towards the U & I food building area or the passengers' shed. Along this axis, a lot of smooching, handling and scenes could take place. The gloomy and cold breeze offered by the tall trees around here makes these activities easy and concealed. I sincerely haven't had any experiences here . But I suppose the number of students that loom around here are majorly Zikites, Katangites, Awoites and Idiaties. I have no doubts about Idiaties - na their hall . #3. Awo Hall driveway: And yes! We're here! There's a belief in UI that most of the ladies in Awo hall are potential wife materials, and ladies here are mannered and well cultured. So if a hall is full of wife materials (100 yards fah ), potential suitors must be seen lurking around such vicinity. It's not that I come here too, but I... , You should understand! What brings most guys here (from all the male halls) is seeing their ladies off or Walking them down from school area at night. Tho, some normally schedule meetings . Most of the 'seeing off'usually lead to 30minutrs or more discussion along the driveway. You know, UI is Known for learning and discipline. I love the way the night watch men at Awo hall flash their Torchlights at the students in pairs - normally, that's an indication for males to leave the vicinity. #4. TECH Road: this is one of the most silent places in UI, especially in the evenings and night. I'll call it an offshoot of escapades from Awo hall driveway and U & I food building. People mostly end their conversations here. Tho, some friends normally hang around here intentionally. It's usually interesting to see sights and hear sounds of love display from people. There's a building of the Food Technology Department here, also the Admissions Office which has an open space - lovers can be seen chasing themselves around here sometimes and even sit in the drainages here . A lot of smooching happens around here. Read the dangerous number 5 and 6 here https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/05/campus-tori-6-romantic-places-in.html?m=1

The University of Medical Sciences, Ondo has disclosed that it has concluded plans to commence the coronavirus test. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, made this known who disclosed this said the school has the needed tools to carry out the exercise. “The PCR machine used for conducting the test for COVID-19 is available in UNIMED. At the moment, once a person is suspected, the sample has to be taken to Ede in Osun State for testing because we don’t have the capacity but within the next few days, we are going to start testing. “We are going to continue to partner with the federal and state ministries of health to support them not just on COVID-19, but on Lassa fever and on other diseases because we are going to ensure the diagnostic facilities are available.” Fatusi disclosed that the institution was actively involved in the community sensitisation via indigenous, traditional and social media. He reminded that sensitisation is the most important thing at this point in time to let the people know what they should do in order to prevent further spread of the virus. https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/05/unimed-concludes-plans-to-start-covid.html?m=1 |
Barring last minute changes, OYO INSIGHT can authoritatively report that The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan is set to hold an online meeting, specifically on the 18th of May, in a bid to set in motion, processes for the appointment of the Institution’s next Vice Chancellor. In a statement signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, the meeting became imperative because the five-year tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, would expire on the 30th of November, 2020. According to the statement, the meeting is therefore, in accordance with the Universities Autonomy Act of 2003, which vests the power to appoint a Vice Chancellor on the institution’s Governing Council, provided that the visitor to the University, in this case, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, is duly informed after the appointment. However, this announcement of the commencement of the electoral process, may be hampered by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the strike embarked upon by members of the Acacdemic Staff Union of Universitis (ASUU), whose members have specifically frowned at the commencement of such exercise, “at a time like this”. A source, who pleaded anonymity, explained to OYOINSIGHT.COM that the meeting is a ploy by the Vice Chancellor “to force or rush a meeting via Zoom (an online meeting platform), when he cannot get other things done via the same online platform”. The source stressed that “this is the beginning of a plan (by the VC) to force his own agenda on the system he has not led well for the past 5 years”. Unfortunately for the VC, the source added, “members of ASUU who are in the Varsity’s Council, are under drective of the National Union not to attend any meetings, whether online or not.” Findings by OYOINSIGHT.COM also revealed that Section 2 of the Guidelines of the ongoing ASUU strike forbids any member to attend any meeting, whether physical or online. The section reads, “Members are further reminded that the current strike is indefinite, total and comprehensive. No teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings (whether physical or electronic) of any kind (Senate, Council, College, Faculty/Departmental Boards, Committees, etc).” The source further explained that this same Management, now calling for an online meeting for the purposes of kick-starting processes for the appointment of a new VC, had previously prevented two different online meetings on account of the Coronavirus pandemic. The first, according to the source, was an online international conference which was cancelled, and the Dean told that was so because of the pandemic and ASUU strike. Similarly, the source stated that a zoom meeting between ASUU members in the institution was stopped by the VC because of COVID-19. It is therefore funny, that the same VC who postponed both programmes, is now the one calling for another meeting. ifykris22:Welcome to Nigeria bro |
Recently, Tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been seen to engage in different Savage and conversation contests on social media platform like Twitter and Facebook. Tonight the Universities battling are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) and the Premier University, the University of Ibadan (UI). Previously it was the University of Benin against the University of Lagos #UNIBENvsUNILAG Students of these Varsites were seen on Twitter making savage and funny replies to situations relating to their school. We guess this is a way of cooling and chilling out this lockdown period, and even as we anticipate a positive gesture from ASUU. Here's the Trend on Twitter #AAUAvsUI https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/04/trending-battle-between-varsities.html?m=1

The Imo State Government has said it does not plan to rename the Imo State University after late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, whose death was announced on Friday. Chief Press Secretary to Imo State governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, in a statement on Monday described the news as fake. The statement reads in part, “Since Kyari passed on, the same persons have been issuing press statements, forging the logo of government and the name of Mr Nwachuku with the intent to deceive Imolites in particular and the public in general into believing their propaganda and fake news to be real. “In one of such fake statements they issued and also circulated on social media, they mischievously credited Governor Uzodimma to have said he would immortalise Kyari for making him governor. “We also advise the reading public to take fake news seriously and make conscious efforts to identify the promoters and ensure that they join others who stand against fake news globally to make their trade unattractive.” Source: https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/04/imo-government-denies-renaming-state.html?m=1

COVID 19: The Assertions of NCDC are Wrong. We Have a Significant Number of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Molecular Testing - YMSF Yesterday, the House of Representatives through their handle on Twitter gave a report on the state of the Laboratories and personnels in charge of the Laboratories for the COVID 19 testing in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They said: "We need to expand our testing labs across the country. Presently, we have two lab scientists in molecular testing, serving seven labs across the country. As we are expanding across the country, we need more people to be trained in molecular testing for faster results”. Their tweet received so many controversial replies and reactions especially from different Associations of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria. Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria also gave reactions that the House of Representatives were either Being informed wrongly about the number of Scientists in the lab or the entire testing process. The Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students Association also reacted against this. A press release from the President of the Union in a Federal University is copied thus: FROM THE PRESIDENCY, NIMELSSA (Your Chapter) I wish to bring to our notice & awareness as well as also draw our attention to the tweets of the meeting held between the leadership of our nation's House of Representatives, the Ministers of Health & State for Health respectively. "I understand that certain tweets made by the House of Reps through their account @HouseNGR on twitter yesterday (06-04-2020) portrays a rather unfavourable image of our profession, career, efforts & being." "We might not be certain for sure, if the leadership of the honourable house were misinformed or if the report given was misinterpreted along the line, but whatsoever reports from which they drew such conclusions pose a threat to our essence as indigenous citizens who do our quota and obviously play our roles well in preventing further brain drain from happening in the nation." To this effect, I entreat all Medical Laboratory Scientists in training in our honourable chapter; UNIZIK to join fellow students in other chapters as well as already practising professionals around the nation to queue in the labour of debunking these claims by using our accounts on Twitter to tweet & retweet sensible and respectful tweets —that are in line with this topic— with either or all of these hashtags: #Not2MedicalLabScientists #Not2MedicalScientists #Not2qualifiedScientists #Labvocacy Even after a letter was copied them on the 1st of April, 2020 by the national president of AMLSN clearly stating the manpower (skill), capacity (Medical Laboratory Science professionals), willingness (up to the point of being willing to contribute in the renumeration of these indigenous experts) & readiness to join in the fight against this pandemic, they chose to throw shades on our prestigious profession. This is a rather sensitive situation, and we won't let it slide off so easily. Thank you as you join every other student & practitioner in this good fight. Endeavour to continue the practice of personal hygiene whilst you *#StayHome*. God bless & stay safe! Comr. Anowai, W. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has directed its members nationwide to go on strike as soon as the Federal Government stops lecturers’ salaries. Expect the unexpected. The decision of NEC is that, immediately our salaries are stopped we will invoke the principle of no pay no work. “We don’t need to wait for any directive from NEC and an injury to one is an injury to all. Immediately salaries are paid and we discovered that other members of staff are paid and our members are not paid, we will automatically begin the strike. Meanwhile, ASUU has accused unnamed government officials of sabotaging its discussions with the Federal Government on the proposed University Transparency and Accountability Solution. The union added that it was consulting with its members nationwide on the directive by the Federal Government stopping the payment of salaries to lecturers and all workers of tertiary institutions who are not enrolled on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System. https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2020/01/expect-unexpected-ASUU-tells-federal.html?m=1 |

At the early hours of today, some Students (Names Withheld) we're apprehended for the misuse of The University's Equipment installed for learning purposes at the CBN Lecture theatre, University of Ibadan. The two Students claimed to be Students of the University of Ibadan and CBN Lecture theatre Executives. They explained themselves to have been using the computer and Projector to display an advert for an upcoming event organized for 100 Level Students on the 18th January, 2020 and that they were not attempting destroying the equipment in the operator's room. "I was there at the ceremony when 4 million Naira was raised for the funding of the equipment in the hall. If I am carrying laptop up and down because the systems in the Lecture room aren't working. Then you shouldn't tamper with the other equipment here." "Did your parents send you here to make money? Or did your parents send you here to become pastors and Ministers of religion? What they sent you here to do is to come and read. And if you're getting distracted and you cannot help yourself out then it is unfortunate. Exam is just a few days away." "When the Security comes they will take them away. Then they will identify if truly they are Students or Federal School of Statistics or Polytechnic Students." "If you know how much was used in fixing this lecture theatre after it was built you will not attempt to destroy it! If we cannot Manage our System then our country has no Hope!" These were the words of the Lecturer as he lamented on the rate of miscreants plundering the University. Oladipo Adesiyan, a 13-year-old pupil, has developed a website for his school, Messiah High School, Akure, Ondo State. According to reports, Adesiyan developed the passion for web designing during a long vacation in 2018 when he couldn't collect his result before the close of school. “It all started one afternoon after my school had closed for the long holiday. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t collect my result that term. Although it was painful, I had enough time to think. I began to think of different ways that pupils could view their results online. So I did a lot of research and I settled for an e-portal for the school" “I had always loved to create and design websites since I was in primary school. Although, I didn’t create any website then, but I started web development with codes in February 2019,” Adesiyan said. He said, “My dad has never liked the idea and mum initially saw it as a waste of time. But when she saw the kind of stuff I did with the school website she became one of my fans.” Following the development of the school's website, the school management has promised to reward Adesiyan with something tangible and to further develop his skills. Information reaching CAMPUS VERVE is that a bachelor of computer science student, Kevin from the Federal University of Lafia (Fulafia) has been expelled from the higher learning institution, after sleeping with a lecturer and successfully impregnating her. Nigerian Student Impregnates his lecturer. The university disciplinary board is said to have received the disheartening news of the student impregnating his lecturer with acute shock, before deciding such a cruel penalty on the student. Kevin’s action which has since put the university in the limelight for immorality and promiscuous behaviour has not only watered down the dignity of the university, but also the integrity of the lecturers therein. A number of people have come out to criticize the level of self-respect for the lecturers and the codes that regulate the teacher versus student interaction. The student who was called by the board to receive his expulsion letter argued sadly that the mistake was not entirely his. Kevin clarified that the initial advances into the love affair were initiated by the lecturer, who ended up desperately pleading with him to engage in a sexual affair with her and even possibly impregnating her. He confessed that on times without numbers, the lecturer had convinced him to smash her cookie jar through her seductive moves and highly palatable figure. He said that he could not turn down the offer that came with harsh penalities from the lecturer and of course, his desire to swim in the attractive waters and get cool his appetite. Kevin confessed that the lecturer had served him with ultimatums that would only be injurious to his stay in the university if he failed to drink from her river of life. Therefore, having no other choice, but to get down to business, confessed the lad, he jumped into the sweet business. How the peculiar news went around the university and reached the board still remains a mystery. What the student recalls was an urgent call he had received one fateful day morning, requiring him to appear before the board the very day not later than noon. Overwhelmed with curiosity and panic, he had prepared himself, ready to find out what lay in store for him. That is when he sadly learnt that this affair with the lecturer had not only resulted in him impregnating her, but also landed him into hot soup. Kevin confessed that he had slept with the lecturer on so many occasions, including in her office set within the administration block. Crying for clemency and seeking pardon, the student had broken down into uncontrollable tears, but the university Senate had made their decision. Kevin has since suffered the shock of his life and continues to ask for intervention from the university senior administrators, to lift the expulsion and mete a lesser punishment on him.
