Education / 21 Lucrative Side Hustles For Students On ASUU Strike In Nigeria by philad(m): 6:22pm On May 19, 2022
Why would any tertiary institution student in Nigeria desire to have a side hustle? This was the very first question that came to my mind.

ASUU Strikes are usually determining periods for many Nigerian students. Many students are currently at home with no focus on what to do to get their hands and brains busy.

Although I wanted to begin this blog post by answering that “Why” but, honestly, everyone has different reasons. So I cannot sell you into why you should go into any part-time business. Your reasons are best known to you.

It could be because you want to get rid of your financial challenges. Or become independent, support yourself and your family or complement your monthly allowance. It could also be to monetize your skill. Or ball on campus when school resumes. It could be anything. Like I said earlier, your reason(s) is best known to you.

On that note, let’s check out 21 lucrative side hustles university, polytechnic and college of education students in Nigeria can start.

1. Tutoring/ Teaching

Take it or leave it. Teaching people what they don’t know can earn you a good income.

It could be your course mates or junior students on campus. In fact, it could be secondary or primary school students outside your campus. You’d be surprised that parents need home tutors for their kids. So if you are good at teaching math, English language, and sciences, you can start freelance tutoring. Parents are willing to pay a decent sum of money -as long as you can turn their children’s grade around. You may even decide to tutor UTME students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

If you work hard and find the right marketplace, you can earn up to ₦50,000 monthly or more.

2. Photography

As a student, you can decide to go into photography. You won’t be the first and neither will you be the last.

If you are good at taking wonderful pictures and you can get a camera for yourself, then you are good to go. You can also learn photography to render professional services to people. People want to take pictures of memorable events, make portraits, and things like that.

3. Freelance Writing and Copywriting

If you love writing and you know you are good at it, you can go into freelance writing. You can write articles for bloggers. Website owners and business people need copywriters that can write advertising copies and business copy. You could also ghost-write for authors.

If your writing skill isn’t poor, go ahead and enhance it by learning from exceptional writers and implementing. Luckily, there are hundreds of blogs out there that teach people how to be a successful freelance writer and copywriter.

Trust me when I say this hustle is a lucrative one. There are many Nigerian students earning up to ₦100,000. You too can! – If have good writing skills.

Luckily, there are numerous local and international freelance websites that you can find work.

4. Start Your Own Blog

This is another lucrative side hustle for students in Nigeria. You can blog at your own free time, anywhere. Although blogging is not a fast way to make money, it can be a great stream of passive income over time.

Find a good niche, set-up your blog, bombard it with valuable content, make it search engine optimized and monetize your blog. If you share useful knowledge that people can’t stop consuming, it can make you an enormous amount of money.

There are many blogs started by students in Nigeria. These blogs not only make them money but also add value to their readers.

5. Editing and Proofreading Services

There are many people who create blog posts, articles, eBooks, scripts, stories, projects documents, etc. These contents, however, need proofreaders and editors to improve their qualities.

If you’re fluent in English language and you are skilled at using software packages like MS Word and Grammarly, editing and proofreading wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Proofreading is about correcting typographies, punctuations, grammars, and spellings. On the other hand, editing has to do with enhancing the quality and engagement of a document. This includes the style, structure, clarity, and reference.

I have friends into this side hustle earning up to ₦100,000 monthly and more on freelance websites.

6. Vlogging
A video blog or video log, sometimes shortened to vlog, is a form of blog for which the medium is video, and is a form of web television.

Vlogging or video blogging is also a means of making money online. All you have to do is to make a video and upload to either Facebook, Youtube or Tiktok. Vloggers are money makers just like bloggers. You can also be a full time vlogger or part time vloggers.

7. Dropshipping.
Drop shipping is a form of retail business wherein the seller accepts customer orders without keeping stock on hand. Instead, in a form of supply chain management, the seller transfers the orders and their shipment details to either the manufacturer, a wholesaler, another retailer, or a fulfillment house, which then ships the goods directly to the customer.

As such, the retailer is responsible for marketing and selling a product, but has little or no control over product quality, storage, inventory management, or shipping.

Talk of shoes, sneakers, bags, jewellery, wristwatches, phones, laptops, other electronic gadgets, books, t-shirts, gowns, etc. The numbers of things you can choose from and start selling are almost limitless. In fact, you can do mini-importation. Buy goods at ridiculously low prices from China and sell them twice or thrice the amount!

Students love to look great and use classy items. So find something useful to sell and market your items. People will surely buy from you. At least, this doesn’t require you to learn anything other than how to make profits from buying and selling.

For you to be a successful dropshipper, I will advise you to create a WhatsApp or Telegram group. This will ensure you have an already created audience that are ready to buy your products.

Some people say, dropshipping is a little bit similar to affiliate marketing, well from my own point of view, I will say yes, because the goods are not purchase from you directly, you advertise the goods and get customer to buy the good directly from the vendor.

8. Forex Trading.

If you can learn Forex trading, then you can make huge amount of money. However, Forex trading is not easy to learn. You can gain massively, you can also lose your capital all at once. Ensure you have good knowledge about the Forex market, what to trade and when to trade so that you won't be in a total loss. There are a lot of people making money from Forex trading. So don't dull yourself.

9. Crypto Trading

Crypto trading deals with the buying ans selling of cryptocurrencies or digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Etherium, Dogecoin, etc. I have a lot of friends that are making money from Crypto-trading. For cyrpto trading you can join popular platform such as Binance to get started.

10. Selling of NFTs.

NFT which means Non-fungible token. NFT started gaining weight in 2021. So, ya, NFT is a new investment in town that is why you should don't leave yourself out on the new ways you can be making money online during this ASUU strike. You can get started on platforms such Opensea as well as Binance. The way you buy and sell cryptocurrencies that is also the way you do for NFTS.

11. Phones and Computers Repair

Every student on campus uses at least one phone and virtually every student has a PC. Not just students, but lecturers, non-academic staffs, neighbours and the list go on.

These gadgets also fall sick and have accidents like humans and they need doctors to save their lives –if the owners care that much. You’d be surprised at how students will flock to your abode, seeking help for their dear gadgets’ lives. More patients, more money!

Now, if you want to go into this business, you will need to learn the skill. Say 3 to 6 months training or so. Don’t just go around claiming you can repair phones and PCs o! Learn the skill first, I beg.

12. Social Media Management

Please! Turn your addiction into a money-making hobby -seriously.

The rate at which smartphone users are freaking addicted to social media is alarming!

Guess you’re one of them, right?

Anyways, those data you burn monthly, consuming and posting on social media can fetch you fetch a decent income.

Study social media marketing/managing and render the services to business owners, celebrities that don’t know jack about promoting or managing their social media platforms.

As long as they know social media can be a goldmine for their businesses, they’ll pay you well. Just one client ONLY can pay you a minimum of ₦20,000 monthly! And no one said you should stop at one.?

13. Graphics Designing

Graphic designers reading this would have to pardon me. But I have to tell my people what you guys are hiding.

Designing just one flier costs a MINIMUM of 3k. The same price if you design a business card. You can design just one logo for as much as 10k and more (Depending on your client and skills)! Graphic designers also design cartoon, caricature, design cover, and many more.

Okay. Let’s do a little math calculation.

If you design a minimum of 20 fliers and 5 business cards, cartoon aside, caricature aside, covers aside, photo editing aside, photo manipulation aside.

How much will that make you monthly?

If you’re good at math, you can leave the answer in the comment session below. I think I should stop the secret exposure at this juncture.

14. Website Designing

Forget! In fact, remember! Web designing is a very lucrative business. It is now gaining more attention in Nigeria today because businesses are now realizing how important it is to build an online presence.

Website designing is a great technical skill you can render as a side hustle and, eventually, turn into a serious full-time job.

If you find where your service is needed and market yourself well, you will earn a very good income for designing people’s websites.

You can make as much as ₦300,000 monthly. But you have to learn this skill. Website design isn’t one of the side hustles you can wake up tomorrow morning and start without knowledge.

15. Website Development

Freelance web development is an incredible hustle. So as a student, you can go into it.

If you can learn the skill, within a few months, you’ll be swimming in money.

Fortunately, there are many websites, online courses, and eBooks that you can learn how to code for free!

Just like website design, this side hustle can become a full-time business.

16. Data Analysis

We are in a world of data. Thousands of companies and organizations out there need skilled individuals who are good at handling data. Talk of data mining, data manipulation, data scraping, data entry, and other things that have to do with data. The demand makes data analysis a lucrative side hustle a student can go into.

Data analysis is known as the sexiest job right now. So if you have a flair for numbers or you’re a student of statistics and mathematics, you’ll enjoy data analysis and make money simultaneously.

You can find companies that need these services or sell your services on freelance websites.

17. Catering Services

It could be indoor catering or outdoor catering services or both –depends on your decision. You can begin by informing people around you that you’re into the business or perhaps, approach catering services business to be a casual worker for them whenever you have time, especially during weekends.

Your job may not necessarily be cooking. It could be shopping for catering items, table setting or serving during events. If you are however good at cooking, you can actually turn it into a money-making business.

18. Tailoring / Fashion Designing

If you know how to sew, great! But if you don’t, you can learn.

Tailoring can make you extra income as a student in Nigeria. Sew and wear styles that are so amazing people ask you who made it or where you purchased it. Tada! That’s your chance to promote your side hustle.

In fact, you can brand your business and package it so well that people rate you a 5-star fashion designer.

There is a fashion designing company co-founded by a big brother of mine at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). They import their fabrics from Dubai and sew classy shirts. Even celebrities patronize them. Now, you may not go to that length, but cut out some nice pieces, advertise your side hustle and, of course, make your money.

19. Modelling

If you can’t sew dresses, then you might want to consider modelling, especially if you have an attractive stature. Many students go into modelling and make a decent amount of money promoting brands. You too can.

Remember the cloth company I mentioned earlier? Well, the company signed some models that help promote their product. The image attached to this section is an image of a student of Lagos State University (LASU) –a friend actually.

20. Makeup Artist

Trust me. Beauty in this life, especially in Nigeria, is no longer in the eyes of the beholder. It is now in the freaking hands of makeup artists.

Seriously, I really don’t know how they do those things but they can turn a demon into an angel. And if a man isn’t careful, he’d be chasing what really isn’t.

Anyways, they earn a very good income covering up people’s facial flaws.

As a student, basically a female student, you might want to consider this hustle.

Wait, I didn’t say guys can’t become makeup artists. I only hear there are. But I haven’t seen one anyway.

21. Make and Sell Products

There are numerous products that you can learn how to make and then sell. It could be body cream, toilet soap, dish soap, beads, snacks, sandals, handbags, school bags and so on. Learn how to make any of these things or anything that I didn’t mention, produce them and sell to the public.

Out of all these side businesses, have you decided which one you want to go into? If you’re already into one of them, tell us about your experience so far. If there’s anything else I’m missing out, let me know in the comment session below. And make sure you share this content with others –you never know whose life you might impact today.

Business / How To Use Social Media Influencing To Grow Your Business by philad(m): 3:08pm On May 19, 2022
The term Entrepreneurial growth means systemic plans to achieve a Brand's, Business or Organization's objective to grow and expand it's products and services by quality, quantity, and turnover.

Entrepreneurial growth can be in terms of innovators, business developers, radicals, expanders, customers etc. An entrepreneur who undertakes the risks, and effort to grow the business will certainly have entrepreneurial growth whereas the person who is not willing fails to achieve objectives.

Your business or Brand is like a plant, where the only healthy way forward is to grow. Entrepreneurial growth focuses on that early seed stage where you’re still always reaching for more sunlight and struggling to break free of the soil and leaf out above the competition.

The good news is that while your business is our metaphorical plant, you can be the gardener who prepares the soil, tends to the leaves, waters, and makes it a secure place to grow. All of those elements are strategies for entrepreneurial growth.

In this blogpost, we have narrowed down to discuss Social Media Influencing as a tool to achieve the type of expansion you desire for your business and brand.

What is Social Media Influencing?

The question, What is Social Media Influencing is what pops up on the lips of anyone who hears someone introduce himself as a Social Media Influencer. Social Media Influence is when someone has the ability to affect other people's thinking and decision in an online social community. The more influence a person has, the more appeal that individual has to companies or other individuals who want to promote an idea or sell a product.

Companies and brands can take advantage of social media influence to help increase customer engagement, generate brand awareness and make sales. This can be done by increasing the company’s own social media influence or by hiring established, trustworthy influencers in the same niche.

Social Media Influencer marketing works. That’s the reason why it seems everyone wants to become a social media influencer these days. This type of digital marketing continues to grow as a real and effective way of advertising and keeping your audience engaged in order to make a profit.

Today, there are over 3.7 billion social media users and the influencer marketing industry is worth an impressive $5 billion!

How to Measure Social Media Influence.
Fundamentally, influence can be estimated by examining the magnitude of a person's or company's social networks, such as Instagram followers, Tiktok followers, LinkedIn connections, Number of WhatsApp Status views, Twitter followers or Facebook friends.

However, a more thorough analysis is required, to determine how a person makes those social connections, who those connections are and the level of trust and engagement between the person and their connections.

Professionals have advocated the use of some social influence measurement tools. Klout is one such tool, which provides a score between 1 — 100 based on an individual’s online activity on popular social networking sites. Other industry experts have raised concerns about the validity of the metrics provided by Klout, however, pointing out that Klout does not measure all types of online activity. For example, a blog post from a trusted Blogger could reach a small but highly-targeted audience and potentially be more influential than a simple tweet that reaches thousands of people.

Who are Social Media Influencers?

A social media influencer is a user that has established credibility in a certain niche or content type that has access to a wide audience or subscribers. An influencer has a large enough following and the power to be able to spark a conversation and inspire an action or change in behaviour or choice. Companies can hire Social Media Influencers to help expand their social reach, become more relatable and sponsor products or services.

Types of Social Media Influencers include:
1. Celebrity influencers: These are the most popular influencers as they have acquired their followings from their celebrity status. Since certain celebrities attract specific demographics and target audiences, companies can hire these Celebrities to reach their or endorse their product to their fans.

2. Consumer influencers: These are everyday people that have gained a following due to their personality and relatability. They are typically active on their social media through content creation, text posting, involving in trending social issues, blogging or photo sharing. Because their audience considers them “real” or “relatable” they tend to take their advice closely, such as when they vouch for a service.

3. Microinfluencers: Also known as expert influencers, these are everyday people that have gained a following and substantial topical authority due to their knowledge in a specific area. When they recommend or praise a product, their audience is likely to trust their opinion. Most times times, microinfluencers may have to use the products or service, make necessary review before recommending to people.

4 Content creators: These include professional bloggers, vloggers and photographers. Their role includes developing new content that readers are interested in keeping up with regularly. Part of a company’s marketing strategy could be to send products to a content creator in the hopes they will review and speak positively about it to their followers. Another option is to write sponsored posts for their platform.

Before choosing Influencers, companies consider a few qualities. The first is if the influencer’s personal message aligns well will the company and is relevant to the same target audience. The second is how engaging the influencer is with their following, or how trustworthy their following considers them. Lastly is to consider the influencer’s reach or follower count as this can help predict return on investment (ROI). This same should apply with your brand or Business. You should get on the job as if you are an employee at your company who has been saddled with Social Media Influencing as sole responsibility.

Education / 8 Types Of Food For Broke University Students by philad(m): 6:30am On Dec 20, 2021
I always searched around for budget friendly meals especially in my Pinterest and on the web. As a lover of food and by the necessity of food to we, students. I have compiled 7 food ingredients plus the types of meals that can be created from them. So sit back, take notes and re-create these dishes.

1. POTATOES

The first on the list is Potatoes, this is the one of the most versatile tuber crop, and also one of the cheapest options you can find in the market, the downside about potatoes is that it does not really store for a long period. But this tuber crop, rich in Vitamin C especially the sweet potatoes is packed with nutrients, fibres and is equally filling, and it can be fried in oil, made into pottage, boiled like yam to eat with egg, pepper sauce or anything suitable, mashed and eaten like that. As students this is our very friendly option. So next time you are headed to the market don't by pass the potatoes.

2. GARRI

This should be our first though but then, we cannot overemphasise the importance of Garri, or what most students call garrium sulphate . Garri is simply fried cassava flakes, the life saver, the stomach helper, it goes a long way in aiding students. Whether you are eating it raw, drinking it, making it into the local "Eba" or you are adding it to cooked beans as a topping, Garri has your back with little money and accompaniments as simple as water, sugar, groundnut etc. You are assured of a full belly. It also stores well, though you should watch out of rats and rodents who are interested in it. Also you can make the rich man's garri too, build your garri up with coconut, condensed milk, groundnut, sugar and even chocolate powder then add ice cubes for a chilled effect.

3. BEANS

This item also is a good example of food you cannot do without, beans is a legume that serves various purposes, but it isn't without its stress as touching kerosene, so use gas for faster cooking , but then the nutritional value is essential, as the major plant protein source for Nigerian students, it deserves a place here. Our combos for beans makes it something to look forward too, rice and beans, beans and plantain, beans and potatoes pottage, beans topped with garri, beans and bread and so on. Or if you like the more traditional route, you should blend it to make fried beancakes(akara) or steamed beans pudding (moi-moi) and enjoy with garri, pap, bread or custard.

4. NOODLES (RAMEN)

A round of applause for the number one fast food for students, noodles that comes in different brands like Indomie, Golden Penny, Minimie etc. It has rescued many students who have early morning classes and 7 am exams, your noodles can be made in various ways and it comes in different flavours. And more flavours are still made, so explore too. You can combine with rice, plantain, egg, fish, meat, crayfish. Have you heard of concoction, jollof, fried noodles ? There are just so many ways that noodles can be cooked and eaten.

5. RICE

This is a Nigerian staple diet, although its price is on the increase, we are placing it here because of the combinations and variety you can get out of it, the ease of it being cooked and it consuming less fuel. Rice is delicious, fast and goes well with various ingredients. You can make palm-oil rice at less than #1,000, student jollof rice, fried rice with 3 ingredients, white rice and beans and so on. You can ever combine rice and pasta of your choice. I'm practically drooling over a plate of rice and ewa goyin sauce with beans .

6. PASTA

Pasta is the general name for your Spaghetti, macaroni, twists et al. They also come in different brands and its just 10 minutes to get a perfect al dente texture, all the way from Italy, this food has adapted to our cooking techniques. It also pairs well with other types of food. You can enjoy alone white, with tomato sauce, stir fry with veggies and any protein of your choice.

7. SPICES AND SEASONING

This is invariably a game changer (salt, pepper, curry powder, thyme, ginger powder, turmeric etc ) they add tons of flavours, store well for months and make your meals delicious and appetising. They may seem cheap and little but just by adding a bit of this in your cooking along with onions. You are in for a lovely experience. Your curry gives that fried rice colour naturally, your thyme gives a buzz and if you like heat (go for pepper )

8. VEGETABLES

This plays a key role in your health,( okra, African Spinach, Pumpkin leaves, Water leaf etc ) they can be used to make delicious soups that are healthy supplements along with swallows, rich in vitamins and minerals, a hundred naira worth of okra or bitter leaf can go a long way in ensuring you have a balanced diet, add crayfish and locust beans and you have a students' soup.

After sending a suicide note to two friends, Campus Verve reports that Jude Nicholas went missing.

His plight began in 2017 when he had surgery for hernia. During the surgery, the doctor tampered with a major vein that supplies blood from his heart to his legs. Since then, he’s been going in and out hospital, battling to save his legs.

He said he kept his health challenges to himself, using whatever money he had to treat himself, until he became so bad that he began visiting hospital up to three times each week as walking became too painful.

He then opened up to a lecturer at school, asking for help from Univeristy of Ibadan. However, his efforts to get help proved abortive.

He said it got to the point where he began “using money gotten legally and illegally” to address his health issues.

His appearance was confirmed by a message from the speaker, NUESA FLC University of Ibadan on Wednesday, 15th December.

The message read:

Good morning Hon. Members. Thank you for your concern for Nicholas. We found him already and he's receiving treatment currently.

It also features Automatic charging, temperature control, overcharging protection and over discharging protection and Remote control for easy switching on/off at your comfort zone and it also puts off its self automatically when there is power supply (NEPA light). https://www.campusverve.com.ng/2021/09/again-ui-rises-in-world-university.html

The Times Higher Education (THE) has released its 2022 edition of World University Rankings which includes more than 1,600 universities across 99 countries and territories.

The rankings were conducted based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The University of Ibadan (UI) and the UNILAG have risen in the World University Rankings 2022.

Source: UGC

The University of Ibadan (UI) maintained its top spot in the 2022 world university rankings while the University of Lagos moved a step ahead to rank second in Nigeria and 501–600, out of over 1,600 institutions across the world.

A closer look at the ranking by Campus Verve indicates that the Lagos State University (LASU) dropped to sixth in Nigeria behind Covenant University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Covenant is only privately-owned university among the list

It was gathered that LASU is the only state university included in the ranking while Covenant is the only privately-owned university.

LASU had in the 2021 ranking, ranked second in Nigeria and 501 – 600 in the world according to the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings released in September 2021. By this ranking, UNILAG took a leap from the range of 601–800 in 2021 to a higher range of 501–600.

Although only six universities feature in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the country is home to almost 130 institutions. Some of these are owned by the federal and state governments, while 50 are privately owned.

See the list below:

1. University of Ibadan - 401–500
2. University of Lagos - 501–600
3. Covenant University - 601–800
4. University of Ilorin - 1201+
5. University of Nigeria Nsukka - 1201+

Ilaro Poly emerged top in new ranking of Nigerian polytechnics

It was reported that Yaba College of Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, and Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, occupied the top spots among the polytechnics.

They pay about ₦0.02 per impression and ₦2 per click.

I have been using adnaira for some months now.

When I got to the threshold of ₦2000, I was paid immediately on 25th I requested payment. But the next time, I made more than ₦2000, about ₦5000 the following withdrawal period, I requested payment and was never paid.

I tried all their customer service support, sent mails and chats on social media, they never responded to any.

If you're a Blogger/webmaster looking out for Nigerian advertising agency that has a publisher platform, stay away from Adnaira.. Just like the others, They are SCAMMERS!!

Education / UI, OAU, Others Students In Hullabaloo As School Keep Mute On Resumption by philad(m): 4:04pm On Jan 04, 2021
- UNIBEN, UNILORIN moves to continue Academic Activities, announces resumption dates

AFTER nine months of ditching work, lecturers on the platform of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended their strike on 23rd December, 2020. But it was not all-clear yet for industrial temper in the tertiary sector: the union warned its members would head back to the trenches without notice if government fails to meet its obligations under the new pact reached with them.

Also, the President of the Union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi directed other chapters of the Union to resume academic activities on the 24th December, 2020. Some varsities have announced resumption dates for academic activities, State varsities especially for after January 18th as directed by PTF in accordance to COVID 19 guidelines.

Students in Federal Universities are currently anticipating official releases from their Institutions on when academic activities will commence.

This is seriously becoming an issue of concern because of 9months strike and the backward calendar of some Varsities.

Campus Verve recalls that the University of Ibadan is currently in the 2018/2019 session.
