For centuries and centuries on end, folks wished to surf the clouds: but only the Wright Brothers sought to find out how.
Activists Patriots (those who have the best interest of the nation at heart) should have a paradigm shift: from 'what-should-be-done' to 'how-best-to-do-it'.

ceejayluv: I beg to differ. To truly industrialize Nigeria, we need huge investments, power sector reforms and whole lots of favourable laws and policies. For example, the dangote refinery has been recruiting graduate engineers for years now and recently employed over 200 graduate trainees. Imagine what 20 of such investments will absorb. The skills graduates possess are more valuable in such industries as there are opportunities for research and development. Of course, more Artisans Will even be needed in the construction and operating stage as well. ✔️ |

Lookmun: Section 143 speaks about how a president can be removed from office I believe. It still boils down to the balance of power between the executive arm and the institutions that are supposed to check its excesses.
And so long as the executive is so powerful that the institutions that check it can’t lay a glove on it, then it is going to be difficult to unseat this executive office holder no matter the offense he/she commits.
Hence, any call for true independence of the electoral umpire is a very welcome one and anyone who means well for the future of Nigeria should encourage it. It's not being discouraged. There should be a priority list. I reiterate that this should be way down in the list. Now take an instance: as of May 2023 the nation shouldn't be paying fuel subsidy. That's understandable. But the removal of the subsidy is definitely going to bring a lot of consequences with it. The thing is to set modalities to cushion those effects when they arise. All of these well meaning policies should be well coordinated. |

Lookmun: The house is burning because of lack of consequence for bad governance. If governors or presidents can return to office when they fail simply because they control all the systems responsible for choosing leaders, it means that there is little incentive to try to perform. Until we realize that healthy systems and the rule of law are central to progress, we’d be running round in circles.
Therefore you underestimated the rat not knowing that the rat is causing the fuel spillage that exacerbates the fire. Honestly, I'm impressed by your sense of humor. If section 143 of the Constitution can be conviniently ignored, what makes you think that there won't be a way around this bill? |
Politics › Re: Nigerians Intensify Campaign To Strip President Of Powers Over INEC, Judiciary by Philosophic: 8:49pm On Nov 23, 2024 |
Lookmun: There is no way to compare having an electoral body independent of the executive and the way we’ve always had it. If you think elections in Nigeria are the way elections should be with those who control the security machinery and the umpire being involved in elections, just wait till you have very desperate leaders. Paul Biya of Cameroon ruling for 39 years would be child’s play. Yesterday was the best time to do the right thing and today is the next best time to do the right thing. You don't chase a rat in a burning house. This should come way down in the list.

Lookmun: Let’s stop deceiving ourselves. You claim that the INEC will be no better if they appoint their leadership through a transparent process and if they are remunerated in a clearly defined process totally outside the jurisdiction of the executive. When have we tried it before to see if it will succeed?
So you think that executive choosing the INEC head and being heavily involved in their recruitment is better? In what way is it better please?

RealityOfReason: You naive lots never cease to amaze me. You think the Judiciary and INEC will do better if they become independent? What would prevent them from constituting independent despotism at that time? After all, it's the same quality of humans governing us that are employed into INEC. How about we start with restructuring both the country and the moral character of the average Nigerian? This Mirrors my thoughts

Trump does not want to be held accountable. If it was Obama that was accused of what trump did. They would have impeach him and thrown him in jail..
The reason Trump won because he incite fear. That is not leadership to me Sometimes docile protocols don't get the job done, Proactive leaders often take actions that seem unorthodox but obtain good results, in the people's interest. The results speak for themselves. Result is what the people need. That's why they voted him in. If need be, they'll still do it again. |

In place of Reelection: Honorary Award & a wholesome retirement package can be given to the president upon leaving office for steering the nation in the right direction and for Outstanding accomplishments.
An honorary Award modelled after the GWR Award or The Nobel Peace Prize can be conffered on the best performing president of all times.
The Award, say "Presidential Excellence Award" , can be conffered on him/her by the AGF following a majority vote by the Senate after considering Stark essential performance indicators.

In the spirit of true Nationalism, it'll be practical to establish a law to provide for a single term of office for each sitting president, giving each geopolitical zone a shot at govt: but then, it's a 36-year circuit⏱️.
To enhance its effectiveness, there should also be provision for equal representation of every geopolitical zone in employments, promotions and appointments.
