Press Statement:

OIDA DISSOCIATES SELF FROM MERCANTILIST FCT NATIVES WHO PROTESTED AGAINST #ENDSARS CAMPAIGNERS

Abuja, October 20th, 2020 - Following investigations and a virtual meeting of the organs of the Original Inhabitants Development Association of Abuja (OIDA) where it reviewed the pro-government protest by some FCT natives against ongoing #EndSARS protests on Monday, October 19th, we resolved and hereby state as follows:

- The protesters were organised by one Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf (self-styled Buhun Barkonu) and one Isaac David (self-styled Commandant) who are not members of OIDA or formally known to its organs and as such have no mandate from OIDA, as the umbrella body of natives, or the indigenous people of FCT for them to stage such a protest against the widely acclaimed and nationwide-endorsed protests against police brutality.

- Though these two organisers are FCT natives with rights to individual freedom of speech and movement but since they do not have the mandate of OIDA or any backing by majority of the indigenous people of FCT, we hereby strongly condemn their misrepresentation of the struggle of the FCT people. The media should treat the anti-#EndSARS protest as an isolated event and not colour it as having the endorsement of FCT natives.

- We state clearly that these set of protesters are opportunists, mischievous and money-induced youths who in the guise of pursuing the interest of FCT natives are surreptitiously doing so for their personal agenda. We have stated it times without number beginning from the time of Landswap policy under former FCT Minister Bala Mohammed where these same set of people were used to coerce our people to accept the policy against all rationality that their actions are against the overral interest of Abuja natives and as such we call them out as opportunists and not activists. The good people of FCT know their genuine liberators and those collaborating with their oppressors to maintain the unfavourable status quo. We urge all FCT natives to distance themselves from them until they repent from their character.

- We are in support of all agitations for the good governance, justice and welfare of all Nigerians, including #EndSARS, as long as such protests are done in an atmosphere of civility, respect for the rights of others to join or not to join such agitations within the context of obedience to the rule of law. We abhor all forms of violent protests that result in the destruction of property and death of innocent Nigerians.

- We urge our community and traditional leaders including elected FCT representatives to call to order all those who are taking advantage of the genuine struggle of the FCT natives for the democratisation of governance in Abuja through the provision of a governorate, more Senate and House of Representatives seats, more local governments and respect for the rights and dignity of our people by the Federal Government.

- We urge all #EndSARS protesters to protest peacefully and make their points without violence while we warn thugs disrupting such peaceful protests to stay off our streets and stop harassment of FCT natives and residents before our people are tempted to react.

- The Original Inhabitants Development Association of Abuja (OIDA) while condemning police brutality in the strongest terms also identifies with the Nigerian Police hierarchy led by IGP Mohammed Adamu as he works to ensure that the necessary reforms are undertaken to weed out the few policemen giving the police a bad name.

Politics / Fct Indigenous Youth Liberation Movement Rejects The Counter #endsars Protest by Phinex(m): 10:52pm On Oct 20, 2020
FCT INDIGENOUS YOUTH LIBERATION MOVEMENT
REJECTS THE COUNTER #ENDSARS PROTEST PRESS BRIEFING BY YUNUSA AHMADU YUSUF CLAIMING TO REPRESENT ABUJA INDIGENOUS YOUTHS

Our attention has been drawn to an outrageous action by one Yusuf Ahmadu Yunusa and his ilks who claim to have acted on behalf of the indigenous people of Abuja. According to media reports, Yusuf and his ill-informed group claim that the Indigenous People of Abuja are against the protests going on across the country. We wish to categorically that we dissociate ourselves from Yusuf and the actions of his group. We find his claims offensive and insulting to the countless FCT indigenous people who have been harassed and extorted by the now defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

FCT indigenous people are known to be hospitable and for upholding the dignity and sanctity of human life. We have, over the years, condemned the extrajudicial killings of Nigerian youths by policemen. While we condemn any attempt to hijack the #EndSARS campaign by unscrupulous elements, we stand solemnly with our fellow Nigerian youths who have taken to the street to demand an end to the killer squad as well as a total reform of the police force and other aspect of our national life that pose against the full realization of their potentials. We would never oppose a demand for a better and an egalitarian society, and we definitely did not appoint Yusuf Ahmadu Yunusa to speak for us, at best he was expressing his ill inspired personal opinion. We have been victims of various injustices for too long to support any form of oppression meted upon our fellow citizens.

We as FCT Indigenous Youths Liberation Movement have no hand in the said protest and press briefing admonishing the #EndSars Protesters to steer clear off the roads in the FCT.
We further emphasize that the threat issued to IGP and the ENDSars protester to vacate the streets of FCT be discountenanced fortwit and we hereby encourage the Nigerian Police Force to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

As youths, we strongly believe in the expression of rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the constitution of our country and cannot stop or attempt to prevent any resident of the FCT from exercising such right.
The ongoing nationwide protest by the youths is a non violent one.
We condemn the action of the Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf led group in the strongest terms and want to use this opportunity to urge every other Abuja Original inhabitants youth to through their own various platforms debunk the action of the group. He is a sell out. We believe that he and his group was bought over by some cheap politicians to cause confusion.
FCT natives have been marginalized in all aspects of governance in this country and we stand together with other Nigerian youths to protest against bad governance. Our quest is for an economic emancipation movement whose loyalty is to the most exploited and the most marginalized in this country

There is a desperate need for the youths to be involved in governance at all levels and the youths must therefore demand what is due to them.
Fellow Nigerian youths, we shall continue to make persistent demands on Government and its institutions pertaining our plights via dialogue, negotiation and peaceful protests such As this to ensure that we enjoy all rights good governance and that we are not removed from our Ancestral homes. Our struggle is a type that carries the struggle for land in its blood, fearlessness and dedication to the cause for economic freedom. On our shoulders lies the dreams, hopes and aspirations of our people for a better and meaningful life.
We have seen great challenges and recorded some successes, but we declare without fear or favor that OUR movement will make it through decades of championing the struggles of our people and defending the dignity of FCT natives and other Nigerians.

We refuse to remain silent while some greedy and cheap politicians use some lazy and hungry youths to disrupt the inevitable process of Nation building and National transformation. This is also a warning to sell-out activists who may want to take advantage of our parents in the villages. FCT natives have suffered enough from government negligence and from hyenas who take advantage of our sensibilities to line their pockets with coins. We are awoken to the important task of placing demands on government, its institutions and reclaiming our dignity as law-abiding Nigerians.

God bless Nigerian Youths
God Bless FCT
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Politics / Ministerial Appointment 2019 by Phinex(m): 9:53am On Jul 05, 2019
Obey court judgment and make one of us minister, natives tell Buhari.

The natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of Coalition of Abuja Indigenous Association (COIA), have again urged President Muhammad Buhari to obey the Court of Appeal judgment to appoint one of their kinsmen a minister.
The coordinator of the group, Alhaji Kamal Adamu Shuaibu, made the call at a press conference in Abuja, yesterday.

Area council chairmen of Abaji, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, Bwari, John Gabaya, Kwali, Danladi Bomboyi Chiya, Kuje, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo and Gwagwalada, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, attended the briefing.

Shuaibu said the January 15, 2018 judgment that was delivered by an Abuja division of the Court of Appeal in favor of the FCT natives demanding for inclusion of their kinsmen into the Federal Executive Council (FEC) should be accorded priority by the president.

He said despite the marginalization of the natives over the years, they have remained peaceful because they believe in Nigeria and were entitled to other things every other ethnic group or nation benefits from the federal government.

“We are here to remind President Muhammadu Buhari that ahead of his cabinet formation, the FCT natives are a politically, socially and economically effective people and we are due for presentation at the federal executive council,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the six area council chairmen, the FCT ALGON chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, said since there was a court judgment in favor of the natives to have a minister, there was the need for Buhari to appoint a native into his cabinet.
“The judgment of the court is before us directing the federal government, Mr. President in particular to appoint a son of the soil of FCT as a minister,” he said.

Politics / IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Disguises As Woman, Flees To London by Phinex(m): 10:33am On Oct 02, 2017
October 2nd, 2017 – IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Disguises As Woman, Flees To London Through Malaysia To Escape Lifetime Jail

If the story making round is anything to go by, then Biafra’s future President has abandoned his people and has fled for his dear life.

Though it was earlier reported in the media that Kanu who dressed as a woman escaped through an illegal border between Nigeria and Cameroon in Cross State where he travelled to Malaysia, former Abia state Governor Dr Kalu confirmed yesterday that the IPOB boss has arrived London.

In an interview published in a national daily on October 1st, Kalu said Kanu bolted away to London from Malaysia.

Kanu’s relations were however upset with Kalu yesterday after the former governor leaked the best kept secret of the separatist leader who has now aborted his vision for Biafra.
Politics / When Gbagyi, FCT Indigenes, Protested Marginalisation by Phinex(m): 6:46am On Aug 10, 2017
HUNDREDS of Gbagyi people, the real indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday, 4 July, 2017 stormed the streets of the capital city to protest alleged marginalisation and deprivation by the Federal Government.

The protest was fuelled by the recent Senate’s rejection of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (Fourth Alteration) Bill, No. 12, 2017 (Appointment of Minister from the FCT) which seeks to alter section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to provide for the appointment of a minister from the FCT, Abuja to ensure that the FCT is represented in the executive council of the federation.

There was no doubt that Gbagyi, the ancestral residents of what constitutes the present day Abuja, have since the 1980s been crying over alleged marginalisation ranging from lack of basic amenities and infrastructure deficit in their communities, appointments and employment to reflect their quota in the Federal Character arrangement.

Among other prominent points of struggle is that of the mayoral post of the FCT for the Gbagyi people which has also fallen on deaf ears. The indigenes are also aggrieved that FCT has a single Senate and House of representatives seat respectively. Recently they also clamoured for state status to be granted to the FCT in order to allow the indigenes to elect their governor.

Secretary General, Coalition of FCT Indigenous Association, Barrister Christopher Dada, who led the protest last week, lamented that Abuja had since been overrun without any resistance.

He said what was most disturbing in the midst of all these struggles however, was the fact that no one seemed to take their agitations seriously.

“Yet, we hear of Ogoni people, MASSOP, and their land struggle, Odu’a Peoples Congress (OPC) and the South West protection, the Plateau, seeking an identity and emancipation”, he added.

He further lamented a situation where today in the FCT, it had become a case of indigenous tribes versus residents association who were operating on different frequencies on Gbagyi land, adding that nobody spoke on the basis of compensation for the Gbagyi man.

According to Dada, the people are fast becoming landless because they have tactically been disposed of their land by the government machinery or the privileged absentee landlords. “But why is such a calamity taking place over our people with ease? What has gone wrong with the hitherto, peaceful people?,” he lamented.

They demanded, among other things, that the Federal Government should henceforth appoint Abuja indigenes as FCT minister and Permanent Secretary so as to be part of decision-making at the federal level.

The protesters who had converged on the entrance of the Head of Civil Service as early as 6:00 a.m, were later demobilised by the security operatives before they regrouped and caused serious gridlock within the area.

They carried placards with various inscriptions: “FCT is sitting on a timed bomb; enough is enough Permanent Secretary for FCT is a must do; how can there be peace without justice?”. They further threatened that if government failed to address all their grievances and agitations, they might resort to violence”.

Prince Gbaiza, National Coordinator, Greater Gbagyi Development Initiative of Nigeria (-DIN), emphasised that the right thing should be done because if the people were left with nothing, then the heritage of the Gbagyi man would be extinct.

“Gbagyi people have turned themselves enemies to one another. That is why Kwali and Bwari can have non-indigenes as their traditional rulers. Yet nothing seems to happen. That is why our politicians can be killed and heavens have not fallen. That is why our houses are demolished, land seized without compensation, and heavens cannot weep. Will these happen in the Niger Delta or South East, or South West or the Northern States and the country will not pay for such?,” he stressed.

Gbaiza, stressed that the Gbagyi people are generally known to be hardworking, basically peasant farmers. This culture of hard work over the years had failed to deliver the people from poverty in spite of their labour. Education, which is the gateway to success in life is a mirage among the Gbagyi people.

According to Prince Ggaiza, “our children are learning under harsh economic conditions. The educational infrastructures are poor, the space (institutions) limited and where available, the Gbagyi man is unable to afford the cost. The children, especially those in Abuja, are competing against global standards because of their environment. Our children are dropping out of school in droves because of lack of sponsorship, parents have failed due to obvious reasons and governments at all levels have failed us”.

He also emphasized that at the Area Council levels, scholarship is only awarded to the children of members of political parties in government or the children of the elite.

“Our children study under harsh economic situation, trekking to schools, going to farm, before they can pay their school fees or buy handout or type assignments. Our daughters have taken to prostitution. A trip through any of the major- streets, parks or offices in Abuja, what you see is Gbagyi girls hawking groundnuts and maize. We are the drawers of water and hewers of wood on our own land, while we watch individuals come from far and near become rich, doing business with our lands and on our land. Our politicians are not giving us quality representation, why is the Gbagyi man not lucky?,” he asked rhetorically.

Another Gbagyi indigene Iyako Joseph asked, “are we cursed? Why are we always sending our second or third eleven, instead of our first eleven? Perhaps, the first eleven have failed, or just self-centred. Abuja as at today, has no ministerial appointment, one ambassadorial posting at our back yard. What is the value of our votes at elections? There are about 55 university institutions, many Colleges of Education and polytechnics, non is headed by a Gbagyi man in spite of the fact that we have about 15 Gbagyi Professors in Nigeria’s higher institutions. Politics has caused this”, he claimed.

Speaking with newsmen in his palace, the Sa’Peyi of Garki, Dr Usman Nga-Kupi, said he did not believe in violence, hence the decision to go on peaceful protest.

He lamented that government was not ready to listen and “we don’t want our youths to resort to violence because we don’t buy the ideas of people demonstrating or violence, but our prayer is that government should listen to the people because that is the essence and the beauty of democracy.

Speaking further, Mr Dada said “we need a permanent secretary for FCT, we discovered that in the recent exercise for the appointment of permanent secretary by the Federal civil service, three of our people were shortlisted but along the line music changed and they were saying that they were not qualified, they were not shortlisted so this is a major thing we want to know and constitutionally we are qualified.

“In the past days, we have Dr Aboki Jawa, an indigene of FCT who was Permanent secretary of many ministries, especially ministries of Education and Petroleum Resources and many others, so why is government denying us of this opportunity at this time?”, he questioned.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Abuja South Indigenous Youth Forum, Abdul-Mustafa Abdullahi Zuba said “this is just the beginning”.

The Director of Special Duties, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Olusade Adesola, promised, while addressing the protesters to deliver the messages to the Head of Service for onward delivery to the Presidency.
Politics / Constitutional Amendment: FCT Natives Threaten Showdown. by Phinex(m): 5:47pm On Aug 01, 2017
Following the recent rejection by the House of Representatives for a ministerial slot for the Federal Capital Territory natives, the coalition of FCT Indigenous Associations and all other concern FCT Natives staged a protest blocking major roads in the city.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the leader of the group Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, said that the move is capable of causing violence thereby exposing Abuja residents to security threat.
Yusuf explained that the problem of Nigeria has always been marginalisation and “we resist any further attempt to redicule the natives.
“If the senate has agreed to a constitutional amendment for an FCT minister and the House of Representatives has refused to accept it then we want to make it categorically clear that the refusal is exposing FCT residents to danger.
“The perceived marginalisation has bred a kind of agitation that will soon result to security threat,” he said
He added that the natives will go to any length to press home their demands even if it means to carry arms.
The natives further reiterated that they cannot be alive and not have a representative at the federal executive level.
“At this point, we can do anything. Abuja residents should know that the land is no longer safe, we want to inform the lawmakers that if they want us to carry arms to be heard as it is the traditional in the country, we will do so,” he stated
Our correspondent gathered that major roads leading to the FCT from Kuchingoro Airport road, Charley Boy Junction Gwarimpa are amongst the roads blocked by the Natives as they massively turn out in their number’s to protest what they referred to as “injustice” on them by the federal lawmakers for voting against a ministerial slot for the FCT natives.in
Politics / FCT Natives Declare Support For United Nigeria by Phinex(m): 8:26am On Jul 26, 2017
FCT Natives Declare Support For United Nigeria
BY TARKAA DAVID
Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of Original Inhabitants Development Association (OIDA) have declared their support for a united Nigeria, based on proper devolution of governmental powers, rather than dismemberment of the nation as canvassed by separatist groups calling for secession or expulsion.
The natives however warned that should the country be split into groups, they will seek an independent status, by asking the United Nations to govern the 8,000sq kilometres territory through a transitional arrangement until it can become an autonomous city-state with socio-political and economic sovereignty.
In a statement signed by the president of OIDA, Pastor Danladi Jeji and made available to LEADERSHIP, the natives also declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, but call for more devolution of powers to FCT and the state governments.
The statement explained that the resolutions are the outcome of an executive meeting held at the weekend, where members of its leadership and chiefdom representatives debated the state of the nation.
The statement also advised any region or individuals hoping to annex or forcefully claim Abuja in the case of a Nigerian separation to immediately discard such notions.
“We are minorities consisting of nine tribes and bourgeoning residents who have a right to self-determination hence none of the majority regions or ethnicities should think that we will go with them.
We urge more peace and unity at the moment but should the Nigerian federation be dissolved, we shall have no choice than to seek an independent status from the northern or southern groups agitating for separate countries at the moment.”
The group revealed that it is set to organize a pan-FCT meeting of all elected and non-elected officials, traditional rulers, women, youth and civil society groups to bring out a position paper on the recent agitations for restructuring of Nigeria.
Education / FCT Natives Demand Review Of School Of Nursing Admission by Phinex(m): 7:52pm On Jul 23, 2017
Natives of the FCT, under the umbrella of Coalition of Abuja Indigenous Association have called on the authorities of the School of Nursing, Gwagwalada to review the admission list it released recently.
The natives made the demand when they held a peaceful protest, which was led by the assistant coordinator of the group, Comrade Dalhatu Ezekiel, to the school premises in Gwagwalada yesterday.
“We want the overall admission list into School of Nursing reviewed,” he said insisting that out of the 150 indigenes of the territory that applied for admission into the school, none was admitted. “Even the five people the school claimed to have given admission are not natives and we hereby reject it,” he said.
They said the natives have no place to call their home but the FCT, adding that the school also failed to consider employing any of the natives as staff or cleaners.
“So we are saying that justice should be done to the natives of the FCT. Let it be that we have a quarter in your admission,” he added.
Responding, the principal of the school, Mr. Lazarus James Kwali, said the management was delighted over the peaceful manner the natives conducted themselves to show their grievances.
He said though he just assumed office, he was assuring them that the management will channel their grievances to the appropriate authorities for consideration.

People keep talking about North and Hausa/Fulani as if they are the Only ones living in the North. Let it be clear that Those who issue such warning to igbos are just a bunch of misguided Muslim youths.
Let it also be know that Benue, Kogi, Fct, Niger etc are part of North. You can't live in Benue, Kogi, Fct and compare it with living in some Northern States like Borno, Gombe, sokoto, kaduna etc.
Let's stop generalising issues unnecessarily.
