Agriculture / Re: Starting My 2 Hectare Farm In Abuja by Phizzlephizz(m): 11:02pm On Feb 29, 2020
okoroemeka:
I have consulted on a farm that has a far distance water source and we tried plan A,B,C, nothing was economically and physically viable until we tried plan D which was using a 2 hp submersible pump for borehole in the river and problem solved, these borehole pumps has high pumping heads that pumping on flat land is like eating pounded yam and vegetable soup to it,if you have electricity or generator to power a 2 hp pump it will eliminate the need for two mud pumps and stress,I know that was our plan C, imagine a pump that can throw water 300-500 feet vertical which high pressure, pumping 1000 feet on flat ground is a joke.

Thanks for the advice, but I had already acquired the pumping machines, and gotten some pipes, plus I can’t leave my pumping machine at the river to avoid theft. I’m hoping the idea of using 2 pumping machine works, I’ll never know until I try it next week.

I finished clearing today, the tractor did a good job and the land kinda seems bigger than I thought. Next week I’ll be buying sewer pipes 4inches to be buried in the ground from the edge of my farm to the river. The topography of the area has a slope towards the river, and since the distance from the river to my farm is about 880ft, I bought 2 Pumping machines, one pumps from the river into a drench yet to be dug inside my farm, while the other takes from the drench and supplies into the farm.

Making of beds for planting too will commence next week, still trying to find a good source for my pepper, my biggest problem right now is finding a Source for Hybrid Ugu seeds, I heard the local seeds don’t do well here in Abuja... if anyone has contacts for hybrid Ugu seeds please kindly indicate. Thanks

Where is the location of your farm? Can I get farm land there too?

GABA Bwari LGA, my farmland is about 10mins drive from Veritas University! And yes you can but you’ll probably be buying from a reseller as most of the lands are sold. But you could still try, I bought mine 2018.
Agriculture / Starting My 2 Hectare Farm In Abuja by Phizzlephizz(m): 11:41pm On Feb 28, 2020
I’m starting up my 2 hectare farmland in Abuja for crop farming. I divided the land, so I’m using one hectare for yam and cassava farming, while I’m using the other hectare for short term crops and dry season farming.

I cleared the land late last year using manual labor, but upon return this year I realized it’s already bushy again, the trees on the land weren’t dug up from the root. I have now decided to use a tractor to dig up deep rooted trees from the farm land.

I’m hoping to prepare beds next for planting on the remaining one hectare by next week, hopefully clearing should be done by this weekend. I want to grow PEPPER and UGU on it, and yes I have a source of irrigation, which is a stream close to my farm, not very close 880ft away from my farm.

I’m tired pictures and expenses would be stated tomorrow.

Agriculture / Re: I Need Help On How To Use A 2 Hectares Land Efficiently by Phizzlephizz(m): 9:51am On Nov 26, 2018
apakoso2020:
Hello my brother,i love your courage and passion, what I will say is if the land is in Abuja axis,i don't think you need any soil testing, just be sure the land is in an upland area not a low land area that can be waterlogged,at the beginning of rainy season, plant groundnut, you are sure of money back guarantee and good return on your investment at latest 5months (because of drying and packaging)

I’ll look into this, and make my research. Thank you

Please get close to a practising farmer on what you want to farm. It could be crop or livestock

Most people online are not practising farmer.

Acquire basic knowledge on the field you have interest on. Internet information here and there is quite different from practical real experience

Thank you , can you recommend any for me? I’ll appreciate as I don’t know if any practicing farmer

Which area in Abuja? Do you plan to irrigate? Many things to consider before arriving at a conclusion.

Yes I plan on sighting a bore hole on the land, cuz I might go into animal farming in the near future, I just want to start out with crop farming as it’s cost implications is less intensive.

SKhanmi:
Just some nuggets of knowledge I gleaned from someone involved in a similar endeavor.

Identify your source & the end customers- those market women/retailers can buy it all up in the twinkling of an eye, it varies by location/market

Mode of transport - If you're renting trucks, you're going to lose a lot of money if they end up not reliable which is common. You'll make more with your own truck. Enough said

Try and test the waters with a quarter or half goods. Then use that as a guide

And always have backup cash in case of contingencies

Thanks bro I appreciate

Good evening Mr, I think its a good idea but I believe you know that those two food items you mentioned are very perishable. Storage and marketing will be a major factor. I'll suggest you try to find out how best you can store them for a reasonable period of time.
Also, do you know about the market dynamics? If yes, good. If no, you need to sort it out. This is about the people you will be supplying, your gain on each basket's etc.
However, you can invest not up to half of your money in other venture, I have one am on presently.

I hope you find the info useful.
Cheers.

Can we talk better outside this platform! If yes kindly send me a pm on 08058687294 I’ll appreciate it a whole lot

Please of recent I’ve been thinking of going to the north to bring food crops inbtralier and to sell at mile12 market. Ive done survey and I’m looking at starting out with tomatoes and onion for a start, but I’m looking at doing something with less risk actually, so I’m throwing to the house, those who have the knowledge on this to please enlighten me on it. I have 2million to spare but I’m not testing the waters with all of it.

PS: I know it can swallow my whole cash, but na people Dey do am Dey survive

A lot of them.

1. Uber/taxify/oga taxi
Get a good car(at least 2003) say Toyota, tokunbo,
for about a million naira. Register on Uber, taxify and
oga taxi. Get a driver and the driver delivers 35/40k
to you weekly. He buys the fuel him/herself. I can get
you a driver.

2. Livestock(Cow/goat)
Travel to the north, buy cows and transport them to
Lagos. You can buy one for about 100k and sell for
between 170 to 200k. You can start with 500k. This
is my neighbours biz and I plan to join when money
enter my hand.

3. Importation(house hold items)
Buy house hold items from these Chinese websites:
Alibaba, made in China, aliexpress. Ship to Naija. You
can move from one office to the other to market
them, but if you work, then open a store on Jumia,
konga, olx, jiji, etc. You would be surprised how
Orders would be flowing in.
The best way to know the product is to think of a
major problem in your locality and the solution to
that problem. E.g: electricity. People find it difficult to
iron clothes when there's no power. There's a
pressing iron that uses battery(lead). It comes
with the steam pressing iron.

**I personally sell on Jumia, konga, jiji and olx.

4. Bar/eatery(mini)
The way people drink beer these days is so alarming.
Issues here and there, so people just want a place to
chill off with chilled beer and relax their nerves. You
can open up a mini bar. Make it different from
others. Have A/C inside, have TV's for viewing
football, you can even have games like snooker, table
tennis. Have a separate room for smokers.

You can also invest in a mini eatery.

5. Real estate
Buy land. You can buy at different locations. Just
fence and leave them. You will be shocked at the
amount it will go for after 2 years or more.

NB: if you're interested in items 1 or 2, you can pm me

I don’t know how the pm works, can you WhatsApp me on 08058687294 I’ll appreciate thanks.

Agriculture / Experienced Farmers Your Help Is Needed by Phizzlephizz(m): 2:28pm On Jan 30, 2018
Hi everyone thanks for opening this thread.

I am looking at starting a poultry farm in Aradagun area close to badagry on a 2plot of land, I’m starting small, I’d like a breakdown on cost of erecting the poultry house, and I’m looking at stocking up about 1000-1500 birds, so I’d also like a breakdown on cost of feeding them from doc till they are mature enough for laying, or if it’s better to buy POL birds. I want to know what it will cost me before I make a definite move
