LFJ:Please face the fact, Buhari is afraid of being pounded by Jonathan with facts. His two biggest campaign materials, boko haram and Corruption has been rubbish by the presidency. Tinubu, his number one sponsor is more corrupt than MOBUTU SESE SEKO, boko haram is already defeated. |
The presidential election, with the two main political parties,Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, and All Progressives Congress,APC, has proved to be one which will be keenly contested by both parties. As things are, no political pundit can beat his chest as to which party will emerge victorious at the polls. Against this backdrop, the candidates have been falling over themselves to get the endorsement of various socio-cultural groups to boost their chances come March 28. In this interview, the General Secretary of the apex Igbo group,Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Joe Nworgu, speaks on why there is seeming crisis rocking the body even as reveals the reasons behind President Jonathan’s endorsement. Excerpts… BY FRANCIS IGATA What is the problem with the splinter group, led by Chief Mbazuruike Amaechi, over Ohanaeze leadership? Their grouse has nothing to do with Ohanaeze leadership. Chief Amaechi is an insider in Ohanaeze. He has been consistent with the workings of Ohanaeze. So he knows the correct position on the tenure issue because he partook in the three meetings that led to the amendment of the Ohanaeze constitution where the tenure was amended from two to four years. I am talking of the meetings of the Imeobi (the Elders Council) of 14 August,30 October and the General Assembly all in 2010 under the former President General,Chief Ralph Uwechwe. He was an active participant for tenure change from two to four years. So his stance now has nothing to do with Ohanaeze or the interest of Igbo. The other two characters in their acclaimed Caretaker Committee of Ohanaeze,Ralph Obioha and Zed Chukwujama, are totally outside Ohanaeze. It is true that every Igboman is a member of Ohanaeze. But they have not been active participants in the activities of Ohanaeze. In the last 15 years, I cannot remember of any committee they served Ohanaeze in, apart from the Reparation Committee, which is ad-hoc. That Reparation Committee is where these three people belong to. President Jonathan We gave Amaechi the free hand to choose some of the people he wanted to be the committee’s members, with him as Chairman. It was at the meeting leading to the just concluded Confab, that their interest became known. He pressurised us to go to the governors and query why they should be the people to appoint Ohanaeze slots. We said no,we will not confront the governors. It would mean that we are setting out as a divided group. Whoever went there should not be the concern. We already have the document of what the Igbo people want. We had successfully presented that document to the Advisory Committee Chairman led by Senator Okunrounmu. Every person hailed the content of the document because it contained all the necessary ingredients for the convocation of a National Conference. Amaechi has been very angry because he did not participate in the Confab. We did not want to show division in the Igbo flanks. All the things you hear them say about Ohanaeze is hearsay. What they are saying is from a position of total ignorance. Now that it is clear that Ohanaeze has endorsed the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, can you tell us the reason behind his adoption? We endorsed President Jonathan’s re-election. You have to go back to 2010 when we first endorsed him to understand our stance. The reason for the endorsement then was the presidential election and zoning. Therein, we argued that there are two zones in the federation of six geopolitical zones. The South-South and South-East, which had never occupied the plum seat of the presidency. There are zones in this country which have produced presidents three to four times. We said that it was the turn of those who had not produced, to produce based on equity, justice and fair play. Since the South-South and South-East were the two zones yet to produce the President, in 2010 we backed the South-South because the oil resources that sustains the country come from them. So they should be allowed to occupy the seat in an unbroken succession. It will equally give room for minority tribes to have a chance of occupying the seat. Based on that, since Jonathan was already a sitting President from the South-South,we said we are going to support him for re-election. But after the South-South,it will be the turn of the South-East that has never produced a President in an unbroken succession based on equity and fair play. We believe in justice and equality of all zones in the country. That is the reason for his endorsement. This time around, we endorsed him further because he was able to convoke a proper National Conference which no past President has done in the history of the country. Jonathan had the will-power, forthrightness to convoke a proper Confab. That is one of the legacies his administration has left behind. We want that Confab report implemented. Ohanaeze stands on the implementation of that report. Jonathan in the firmament is the only person that can implement the report because his integrity is tied to it. That is the legacy he must leave as a man of history. He must implement that report. To us, between the APC candidate and that of PDP,we think Jonathan is more likely to implement it. At the Confab, all political parties had two slots, it was only APC that did not send a representative. Certain zones during the build up did not want the Confab to hold. Their position is nefarious and anti-other zones. They wanted the status quo to remain which is the cause of all the frictions in the country. The present structure breeds corruption and tension. The Confab addressed all these challenges and there was consensus which is the first step towards building a formidable Nigeria. Based on that, Ndigbo believes in one Nigeria, fair play, justice. Ndigbo think that Jonathan, having convoked the Confab,is in conscience, bound to implement the report. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/why-ohanaeze-ndigbo-endorsed-jonathan-nworgu/ |

The Presidency has accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari of avoiding a debate with his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, President Goodluck Jonathan. The Presidency alleged that Buhari and his campaign organisation had rebuffed all efforts to get him to debate with President Jonathan. The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, made the allegation in a piece sent to SUNDAY PUNCH entitled ‘We challenge Buhari to a debate,’ Abati said, “The man to blame for this denial is General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Getting him to debate the incumbent, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been an uphill task. “To say that the man is scared, practically running away from an opportunity to debate his ideas against the incumbent’s, is to be charitable. He doesn’t want it. Every effort to get him to the podium has been rebuffed by him and his handlers.” He said while Jonathan accepted invitations to two presidential debates before the elections were rescheduled, “Buhari was not interested” in any of them. The presidential spokesperson noted that every Nigerian would love to see the PDP and APC presidential candidates in a debate, being the main contenders in the election. According to him, that would be good for our democracy. Abati recalled that the first group that approached Jonathan was represented by John Momoh of Channels TV; Emeka Izeze of The Guardian, and Nduka Obaigbena of ThisDay, Arise TV and the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria. He said while the Presidency agreed to any Sunday, Buhari allegedly rejected a Sunday because “he does not work on Sundays.” Abati further said the APC candidate also rejected a Monday offer. He added that both parties later agreed to a Tuesday. “Two days to this debate that would have been, I received non-stop frantic calls from the troika of Momoh, Izeze and Obaigbena. There had been a development, they said. The fresh development was that they had met that same evening with General Buhari and he did not agree anymore to a debate with President Jonathan. “Rather, he wanted a town hall meeting, in which he would be the sole participant. Another town hall meeting could be organised the same day for President Jonathan and both could be aired back to back. That was his request and wish. Momoh and co wanted the President to agree to this,” he said. Abati said the Nigeria Elections Debate Group was the second group to invite the candidates to a debate. The presidential spokesperson added, “The Buhari camp, again, rejected this invitation on the grounds that the media houses involved were pro-government and therefore partisan. The Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Garba Shehu, however, argued that the PDP had always rejected debate offers by Buhari to the candidates of the ruling party in previous elections. He queried why the PDP-led presidency did not cry foul when former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the late ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua and the incumbent rejected the APC presidential candidate’s offer to engage them in debates during the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections. Shehu asked, “Was it alright when it happened in 2003, 2007 and 2011? If it (rejection) was right then, what makes it wrong now? http://www.punchng.com/news/buhari-scared-of-debate-with-jonathan-presidency/ |

pendusky:He will cry again. |
praxisnetworks:Yeaah, crying more than the bereaved. I can never be moved by this your hypocritical crocodile tears. The worst thing the president will do is to give impression that the activities of boko haram is weighing him down. Instead, he's weighing them down with his gentle smile. #IchooseGEJ |

Buhari flies to UK on working visit, APC ............................................. .................................... FEBRUARY 19, 2015 BY JOHN ALECHENU, ABUJA A statement from his campaign office said in the course of this visit, Buhari would hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with stakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria. The Director of Media and Publicity, for the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Malam Garba Shehu, said, “General Buhari will hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House in London.” http://www.punchng.com/news/buhari-flies-to-uk-on-working-visit/ ......................... .... ..................................................... I went abroad to rest, says Buhari MARCH 7, 2015 BY JOHN ALECHENU All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (second right) on arrival in Nigeria from the United Kingdom at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja... on Friday. | credits: Olatunji Obasa The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Mohammadu Buhari on Friday returned to the country after spending two weeks abroad. Buhari returned in company of his family members, members of the APC Presidential campaign team led by the Deputy Director-General of the campaign, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora. The retired General, who arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport aboard a British Airways flight at about 5:40am dressed in a black flowing gown, dismissed speculations about the state of his health. Responding to news making the rounds that he went abroad to seek medical attention for an undisclosed ailment, Buhari said, “I just went off for a couple of weeks to rest. That’s all I did.” Asked whether he visited any hospital during the trip to the UK, he replied, “What is wrong for me to go to the hospital? Am I not here now? Aren’t you seeing me? Are you seeing a sick man?” http://www.punchng.com/news/i-went-abroad-to-rest-says-buhari/ The reality is that some people are trying to blind Nigerians with lies. GOD FORBID. |

OREMUSSANCTUS:That will tell you the kind of "integrity" Buhari is carrying around. The same man Buhari was calling for his removal some time ago is now his right hand man just because he's scheming to help him rig the election in his favour. |
agriboom:But Buhari still dey? |
EVarn:I don't care to know how anybody sees it, I'm blinded with Patriotism, even if it means to cripple the world for Nigeria to stand tall, so be it. |
Ahmadie:Op, your mumu don over ripe, are you insinuating that an Apc member can't wear PDP clothes just to make up this foolish propaganda? |
COPY COPY GOVERNOR Copying Fayose swag. Hmmmmm, election things. |
espn:I decide to answer you when I realized that almost 100% of the people you're following in your profile are women WOMAN WRAPPER. |
EVarn:How can Nigeria hold them ransom for services many other countries are offering? Mind you NSMC is a company that depends on patronage for survival. If the deal is not favouring them, they have right to quit. If not bad leadership that have bedeviled the nation before the coming of Jonathan, Nigeria should be controlling Africa's economy comfortably just the way America is controlling the world economy. |
MzJackBaueress:Lies from pit of hell. APC with propaganda. How can they donate rice and oil with picture evidence but no picture of a donation of machineries. Tell that to the birds. |
jimmayoy:You're right. |
mustymatic:What do you think will be the reaction of the opposition if such action is taken during this election period? The desperation of APC leadership to clinch the presidency is among other things, to cover up their deadly acts. They must face ICC. |
EVarn:What do you mean by this careless lines? “That will effectively place the economy of the whole west africa in the hands of one country-Nigeria. Why cant ghana and others mint their own currency?,they are directly putting power in Nigeria's hand,to sanction and dictate their economies as we like.“ |
cozy7:Sharaaaaaaaap if you don't have anything to say. We nigerians are not fools, we know it's a handiwork of APC to discredit PDP for political gain. Thank you my president. |
EVarn:Must you comment? |
