Plateau United Wins Nigeria Professional Football League Trophy For The First Time In History (PHOTOS)

It was a scintillating end to the final fixtures of 2017 NPFL season as Plateau United of Jos were crowned the new champion of the Nigeria Professional Football league and became the 19th club to win the Nigeria Premier League since its inception in 1971. The boys from Jos won their first ever premier league title since the club was founded after beating and dethroning last year champions Enugu Rangers 2-0 in the last (38) week of the NPFL. Goals from Emeka Umeh (25 mins) and Benjamin Turba (88 mins) were enough to do the damage on the day to visiting Enugu Rangers who finished 13th on the log.

Meanwhile elsewhere, title contenders MFM FC was dealt a blow after they were beaten 2-1 by El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri but a first ever continental ticket was sure in the bag for the Lagos visitors who finished 2nd on the table in just their second season at the apex of Nigerian football.
Plateau United was handed the Trophy NFF president Amaju Pinnick and a cheque of 50 million Naira was handed over to the club as prize money for winning the league.
As Champions, Plateau United has conceded the fewest goals (25) by any #NPFL team and kept the joint most (17) clean sheets. They scored 49 goals this season, at least three more than any other team this season.
