Sports / Stats Show Messi Spent 83.1 Percent Of The Clasico At Walking Pace by phoenixthefirst(m): 11:17pm On Dec 25, 2017
Lionel Messi was one of the most decisive players in Saturday's Clasico, but he was able to make an impact despite hardly running.

For 83.1 percent of the match the Argentine was walking, while he spent 10.8 percent of the match jogging, 4.95 percent of it running and just 1.15 percent sprinting.

These stats were reported by El Periodico, who analysed his entire 90 minutes performance.
It makes sense that Messi would try to conserve his energy, as he is the only Barcelona outfield player to have played every LaLiga minutes so far this season.

Romance / The Things That Happen On Christmas. by phoenixthefirst(m): 5:59pm On Dec 24, 2017
It's about time for Christmas and we are already in the mood for it. This discourse details the things done by people on Christmas.

1 Sex:
Even though the festivity has a different purpose, people have turned it into an avenue to engage in sex the way they shouldn't. Though some people still abide by the purpose of Christmas, too many others turn it into an orgy; a sex wantonness.

2 Budget Disregard:
A lot of people have lived by having their planned out budgets but trust me, on Christmas people tend to spend way beyond their budget. I know that the Christmas budget is different from the budget of any other month, but even at that people tend to spend beyond the Christmas budget.

3 Sharing of Gifts:
On Christmas, people give and receive gifts. It is an act of love. People give and receive gifts ranging from a Range Rover to a bow tie.

4 An Increase in Emotions:
Christmas begets an increase in oxymoronic emotions : happiness and sadness. While some people will celebrate in style, some others who can't may feel a tang of unhappiness.

5 Effects:
People who might have done more than necessary usually feel the effects of this after Christmas. These are people who lavished, people who invested wantonly in one way or the other.
Religion / Pastor, Alfa, And Doctor: Who Is Right? by phoenixthefirst(m): 7:43am On Dec 24, 2017
In a country like Nigeria, sometimes when people go sick they seek the expertise of a pastor, an alfa, and a doctor all at once.

In this type of situation, sometimes, each one of these people will have an explanation: the pastor's and the alfa's explanations will be the same and they will be in line with what they do: the issue is spiritual, while the explanation of the doctor will be different and in line with his profession: it is a medical issue.

Lalasticlala, which one is the issue? Is it spiritual or medical or both?

Romance / What Are Your Christmas Plans? by phoenixthefirst(m): 10:06am On Dec 22, 2017
It's time for that beautiful time of the year again: Christmas. As Christmas trees adorn places, the air feels different. Colourful decorations make you think it's paradisaic.

On that day, people will throng out in their numbers in celebratory mood. Boys holding girls and girls holding boys. Men holding women and women holding men. Kids trailing them too. Single men and women are not left out.

I plan to go out on Christmas day to a unique restaurant somewhere in Lekki - with my girl of course. This is one of the things I'll do on Christmas.

How about you? What will you be doing on Christmas?

Celebrities / Re: Tope Alabi Builds A House At Fagba, Lagos, Moves In December 28 by phoenixthefirst(m): 6:11pm On Dec 19, 2017
When I watched Yorùbá movies as a teenager, one of the things that fascinated me most was listening to Tope Alabi's uncountable sounds in the uncountable soundtracks of the movies.

I learned the songs with ardor. The rhythm, the melody, the delivery, and the lyrics. Everything was awesome!

She is the best in terms of soundtracks in the Nigerian movie industry.

Her gospel music is one of the best, if not the best, in Nigeria.

The first leg of the El Clasico is just around the corner as it holds on the 23rd of December by 1pm. It is a special one in terms of date as it promises to be a Christmas gift for football lovers all over the world.

Just as talk about the El Clasico dominates days before the event, we are here to talk about it. Barcelona are already 11 points above Real Madrid, albeit Real Madrid have an outstanding. With a Barcelona victory, Real Madrid should just kiss the league goodbye. But a win for Real would mean they are still contenders.

Barcelona are good going forward and at the back, while Real appear shaky, but dangerous.

Who do you back in this edition of the El Clasico instalment?

Let's discuss this important match on the front page, Lalasticlala

The highly anticipated Manchester derby is around the corner. The whole world is interested in this one as it promises to be exciting.

There will be a clash of styles as Mourinho is rightly termed a bus parking coach while Pep's philosophy is that attack is the best form of defense.

While Manchester United will need to win to keep their hopes of winning the Premiership alive, a Manchester City win will mean Manchester City will go ahead to win the Premiership.

Mentioning these people and saying they are wonderful is appreciative.

This is the Nairaland version: mention 17 people who have made 2017 memorable for you.

I cannot mention 17 people on Nairaland since I really don't have friends here.

Technology Market / Nigerian Creates Device That Can Detect Explosives And Cancer Cells. by phoenixthefirst(m): 10:20am On Dec 03, 2017
The device, called Koniku Kore, is the first to fuse live neurons from mice stem cells into a silicon chip.

Oshi Agabi said: "We merged synthetic neurobiology with traditional silicon technology with the goal of fixing urgent real world problems."

Silicon Valley-based Agabi unveiled his invention at TEDGlobal conference in Tanzania on Sunday and says it could one day revolutionize airport security, enabling travelers "to walk from their car to the aircraft."

"One of the problems that plagues us right now is security," he tells CNN.

"Explosives have particles and smells coming off the individual and with our device you can tell, without requiring line of sight or contact, you can scan them at the time at a place of your own choosing and you can get into an aircraft and go about your business."

The invention could also be used to sniff out illnesses in the same way dogs can detect cancerous cells via smells.

"In the same way that a dog is able to detect if someone has prostate cancer, the real question we ask is 'how does a dog do it?' We can clone that process on our chip, so yes in the same way that a dog can detect diseases or explosives at an airport, it's a sensory system, that is essentially what we recreate in our chip," Agabi says.

Koniku, which means 'immortal' in the Nigerian Yoruba language, started in 2015 and has already raised $8 million in revenue, according to the founder Agabi.

"We believe quite strongly that it's going to be run with biological brains that are made with synthetic biological neurons. That is the declared intention of our company: to build a brain."

Forgot to add that 5 of 6 appearance at the world cup, Nigeria has always been paired with Argentina at the group stage (1994, 2002, 2010, 2014 and 2018) angry this is an important fact OP should have mentioned and which we need to complain about to Fifa.
We don't need to complain to FIFA since we beat Argentina in a friendly match and Nigerians say we can now beat them.

I've come to the realisation that when there're issues between parents, the "Mother" usually gets sympathy from the kids. There's no smoke without fire. That haven't caught your mum cheating doesn't mean she may not have cheated on your dad ever. I don't support the domestic violence but this isn't your call but elders. It's disrespectful calling his bluff for him. Let an older person with more wisdom handle this issue, your actions could aggravate things.

The first paragraph of your letter shows you took your mother's side and your dad would see it that way. Why not write him another letter, telling him of the good times you all shared together as a family, and stating why you would love him to change and make things work between him and your mum. Do this then invite the elders to talk to them both.

Most marriages go through this phase over time 'cause "Love" isn't enough. What they need to live with is wisdom.
I wish I could recompense you for this COMPLETELY intelligent comment.

Lol! I was joking around with that Odinakachi thing; none of that is true. I've been kinda busy offline lately, but I do find the time to pop in.

I hope you've been good.
I don't find it byzantine now that the Odinakachi stuff was a joke. It's okay. It's okay to be busy. Avail the situation properly even as you erratically check Nairaland.

Oh yes I've been good. Thanks.
