That's because Tom Cruise is one of the only few cinema purists left, but people simply do not care anymore, just release your shii on VOD and keep it moving, it's not like there is any theatre left still playing the movie, and with the movie been so expensive to make, it is nowhere near turning a profit, dangerously close to been a BO bomb, so he might as well release it on VOD.
Just the raw facts

Movies these days, peak 1 month into their theatrical run, so it makes sense to just dump them on VOD around that time, whilst still maintaining a few slots available to them at the Cinema.... Superman isn't even on FH's slate for the coming week even

Except it is a Christopher Nolan flick, any movie that doesn't do VOD now, at least 2 months max after a theatrical run, is simply asking for trouble.
While Tom Cruise is still hoarding MI8 more than 2 months after release.

Going with this your logic of having better critics scores across board means a film is objectively better than another.

Can you tell me that SINNERS is better than THE BRUTALIST and DUNE PART TWO simply because it has better overall RT, Metacritic and IMDB scores than them?

I just don't want to drag this thing too much but even with all that technical fields like music, cinematography, lighting, dialogue and acting etc you listed, NOSFERATU trumps SINNERS hands down, eyes closed on any technicalities you want to bring.

This is just the most hyped films of the year. I'm not saying the film and it's technicalities didn't work for it, I'm saying compared to what I saw versus other fellow horror films, they were narratively better than SINNERS. While some might not trounce SINNERS in all categories (some actually do), the strengths of other films do well to put them above SINNERS in my opinion.

That list I've stated how flawed it is. And my own version of the best horror works of the 2020s would easily erode both SINNERS and NOPE from that list replacing them with titles like SMILE 2, PEARL, ODDITY, EXHUMA, THE BLACK PHONE, SPEAK NO EVIL.
So weaker films like Talk To Me and Barbarian will also be wiped off.

Well, no wahala sha...... Awards season is fast approaching and we'll see sooner than later movies that will actually compete for the BEST in all categories come next year.
So we will see if this universal praise for SINNERS is actually genuine or not.
We would have to pause this argument for now, otherwise we'll end up going in circles. I feel this argument is based on personal preference, and our interest in horror are quite different. We both agree on NOPE, and THE BLACK PHONE, SMILE 2 is good, but I prefer the first one, yet to watch PEARL, I downloaded EXHUMA yesterday, and will probably watch it today. But NOSFERATU trumping SINNERS in all categories, we don't agree at all. Cinematography, and acting would be a Yes, everything else is up for debate (which will probably never end). As for SPEAK NO EVIL, I didn't even bother to finish it; halfway in, it was shift + delete .

Now Phr0nesis can you look me in the eye and tell me that because SINNERS has a 97% RT score that it's better than OPPENHEIMER who has 93% RT score??

Now you have to understand the concept that while "all films are equal, some films are more equal than others".

I can give a movie 9/10 and give another film 8.5/10
Logically the one with the higher score is the better one right?

But when you look at each films and understand that thematically and tonally they're different you begin to see that at times their ratings don't necessarily correlate or apply like for like.
The topics they touched on, the technical aspect of the films (lighting, costume and sound etc), the cinematography, the directing and acting, the execution, in-universe logic, plot holes, plot armour, character development and dialogue; you begin to see that bringing up films that aren't exactly basically the same films, is an apples to oranges comparison if you're looking at ratings and scores solely for determining the better product.

That's why sometimes a film I give that 8.5/10 some years or months ago, I consider the better film than something I gave 9/10.

And when you look at those films, you have to also at times consider the director's pedigree and actors involved as most times as I have come to expect, critics tend to give good reviews for top directors they've come to respect or love. And I have particularly noticed a trend of Ryan Coogler's films always being praised to the high heavens when he does something new as if it's the next best thing after sliced bread.

Also the genre and style of the filmmaker is also another key factor that translates to ratings. Is it a linear format of storytelling or nonlinear format. Is it hard R rated?
Is it a touchy topic and the delivery of the "message"?

These are things that play out and I say to you SINNERS has one of the easily digestible plot and storytelling ever. It's not even a challenging story as it's very straightforward and mostly surface level with a garb of Africanism at its roots. It just has so many people praising the technical aspect of the film— the music, the directing and people easily going to attack the racial themes in it — the Whites vs the Blacks; without people really digging into the "African roots" and its authenticity Ryan Coogler was trying to sell. Which I find ironic myself.

It might come off as hate but he's the easiest vibes and insha'Allah director of this present generation. Imagine people comparing this dude to Christopher Nolan, David Fincher and Denis Villeneuve.....and guess what the main reason I suspect these dude's put up Coogler up there with this industry big wigs — it's just basically cos his movies are very successful and well liked. Trust me, if SINNERS was a catastrophic bomb, no ONE would line him up with the GREATS.

The key to looking at something; was it good? If Yes. Then you now compare on a personal basis cos every review whatsoever has a personal bias no matter what. You now say how objectively better on a narrative POV this said film is better than the other.

Just going about and bandying scores comparing different films on differing themes and topics is just disingenuous at best.
Sinners has a higher RT score than Oppenheimer, but Oppenheimer has better IMDb and Metacritic scores.
I get the point you are driving at, but saying Sinners can't lace the shoes of the other movies in that list is absolute blasphemy.
Regarding personal bias, Coogler isn't among my favorites, and neither do I have a soft spot for black movies. I'm judging based on the fact that almost everything put in place to make this movie - the music, cinematography, dialogue, acting, lighting, plot - average or not, all worked out well for it.

I've watched 8 out of the 10 films on that list except presently in-theatres movie Together and Companion.

Objectively and narratively speaking those two movies are significantly weaker than films like X-, NOSFERATU, Barbarian and The Substance, in my opinion.

And almost on par with Longlegs.
It's good you mentioned in your opinion.
Of the four movies you mentioned (Nosferatu, Barbarian, The Substance and X), The Substance is the only one I haven't watched, and in my opinion, Sinners is better than them.
If we should keep our opinions aside, Sinners tops all four movies in every major ratings (RT, Metacritic, IMDb, RT Audience score, and Cinemascore).

Saw this talk yesterday and was a bit irritated with the way ODDITY was excluded from this list especially when it's way better than films like LONGLEGS, TALK TO ME. Also excluding SMILE 2 is an annoyance.

SINNERS and NOPE whom I feel are a ll but overhyped in this list is also another vibe killer. Both are good films but I don't think they can lace the shoes of most of the films on that list.
This list I'm seeing or another list?

You are so generous my good sir, this is was a special...special 1.5/10.

It's like the filmmaker took an udemy free course on sound design and film editing and just impulsively decided to make this, because tbf, that was the only good thing, this filth of film had going for it, even i got tired of it at one point, especially, the kill shot of the zombies, when the frame freezes, and unfreezes, looked like a first person shooter video game and a bad parody.

The script was so unbelievably bad, like zero redeeming qualities. It actually starts good, holds enough tension and solid premise at the beginning, boy i thought, these Mfs where taking me somewhere good, after those first 15 minutes, then the story just went flat, zero pulse, dead!.

Like a 12 year old boy with zero zombie killing skills wants to save his mother from his father, left a zombie proof protected enclave, and just went into the wilderness filled with Zombies with zero plans? Like who the hell wrote this trash?? 😩.

They slapped Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer on the face of this, and neither really had a anything to do with this movie tbh, the former was on screen for like 5 minutes out of a runtime of almost 2hrs? Naaahh, this film is the bottom of the bottom barrel...Good fking grief!...and Critical Drinker was calling this filth, one of the best movies of the year in his review!!😩.

Mannn, i can't even catch a break, i went from seeing "To kill a Monkey" to this dirtbag, Home or away, dem dey carry me handicap, when does it actually end?? 😭

Anyways, if you have never taking any of my recommendations seriously, please take this one... stay away from this travesty for your sanity, and for the safety of your precious precious data, in this Tinubu economy...Èdàkun 🙏🏿
The producers felt the movie would be so good that they shot it back-to-back with its sequel. Thanks for taking a but bullet for us, but we'll need you to complete the good work by dropping your excellent review for the sequel by January 2026 tongue tongue

That's suppose to be the whole idea. From the criticism Batman Vs Superman received, the movie is still successful. Honestly don't know why people think a movie making a billi is the only success attache to it.

Come to think of it, The Mask didn't even make half a billi, yet it was a very big success.
One of the reasons people expect Superman to gross a lot of money is because of its budget and marketing cost.
The Mask earn just around $300m, but when you compare that amount to its meagre budget, you'll know why it's regarded as a massive hit

wEll, it can still make a billi, considering the fact that it's barely 1 month in cinema and it's made 500 milli and counting. So, let's wait and see.
$1b is not possible
$700m would be a miracle.
It will still be profitable at the end of its theatrical run

United were poorly run post-Ferguson by the Glazers... They were busy throwing money at names without adequate due diligence and scouting processes.

Now, the club is neckdeep in debts due to last season's trophy drought and finishing outside top 4.

Add that to the fact that they have players on high wages not delivering, and who clubs are not pricing well.

This means you guys have to make do with an average squad, work harder at player development and discovery, finish better in the coming season, and sell players for profit.

This won't happen in even 2 whole seasons.

It's going to be a very long walk back to the glorious days.
