The Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it did not apologize to the former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Mr. Donald Duke, for erroneous usage of his picture in a documentary on the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.


The Director of Media and Publicity of the Council, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued Monday clarified that a purported statement currently in circulation credited to him did not originate from him.

He insisted that the campaign council did not issue any statement on behalf of Tinubu to apologize to Duke.

Onanuga therefore urged the media and members of the public to disregard the statement as a fake news designed to create confusion and mislead the public.


He said “Our attention has been drawn to a press statement currently in circulation credited to the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

“In the said statement, Mr. Onanuga was reported to have apologised to Mr. Donald Duke for an error in the use of his picture in a documentary on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We want to categorically state that the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council did not authorise the said statement and Mr. Onanuga didn’t issue any statement on behalf of the campaign council and our principal, Asiwaju Tinubu today.”

Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communications to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress to replace its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

In a statement on Sunday, Shaibu said the APC should replace Tinubu to avoid further embarrassing scenarios occasioned by his continued miscues and gaffes.

According to Atiku’s aide, Tinubu should only be contesting to be the ‘Grand Comedian of the Federal Republic and not Grand Commander of the Federal Republic going by his utterances’.

He said it is public knowledge that every time Tinubu has come out in public to make a statement or two, he has goofed. According to him, if Tinubu is not saying that a voter’s card has an expiration date, he is saying that young Nigerians are tweeting on WhatsApp or that 50 million youths should be recruited into the Nigerian Army and be fed with cassava in the morning, and ‘Agbado’ (corn) in the night.

Shaibu noted that Tinubu in his latest gaffe at the Lagos rally asked Nigerians to get their APV in order to vote for APC when even primary school children know that the PVC (Permanent Voter Card) is the only item that admits a voter into a polling unit.

He noted that Tinubu’s gaffes already supply comedians, skit makers, meme-makers, and TikTokers with content.

Shaibu said the APC’S seven-and-a-half-year reign is a sad reminder of Nigeria's arrested development since 2015 when they came to power.

He said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s claim at the Lagos rally that Tinubu will lift Nigerians out of hardship and hunger was an indictment on the APC, an admission that indeed over 133 million Nigerians now live in abject poverty as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

“Now they are selling a message of renewed hope. It is common knowledge that darkness cannot cure darkness and sickness cannot cure sickness. How can the APC be promising to fix problems exacerbated by the APC? This is balderdash,” he said.

Shaibu said that the most compelling reason for the APC to be de-registered is the fact that it has driven millions of Nigerians deeper into poverty since 2015, after spending trillions of naira ‘procuring hunger, darkness and insecurity’.

“If the APC are not keen on replacing this disaster of a candidate, they should in the alternative apologize to all Nigerians for bringing them nothing but suffering of unquantifiable proportion since 2015, and proceed to make a solemn pledge not to have anything to do with governance, especially with the February 25, election is fast approaching,” Shaibu said

“I must confess that I consider the remarks credited to the APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, November 26th, 2023 where he laboured, albeit unsuccessfully, to paint the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate as ungrateful and over-ambitious as not only offensive but reckless.”

He said instead of attacking Atiku, Tinubu should have dissipated his energy on telling Nigerians about himself, ‘especially at this time when it is said at various fora that the only thing that is real about Tinubu is his person and that every other ascription on him is a borrowed robe’.

It noted that the documents released on Friday, 24th June, 2022, showed that the APC Presidential flagbearer left the columns for his primary and secondary education unmarked. But he said he obtained a degree in business and administration in 1979, apparently referring to his previous claims of attending the Chicago State University, Shaibu said.

Shaibu quoted Tinubu as saying, “I went on self-exile from October 1994 to October 1998. When I returned, I discovered that all my property, including all the documents relating to my qualifications and my certificates in respect of paragraph three above, were looted by unknown persons.”

Shaibu said Tinubu’s latest claims appear to contradict his previous election submissions, especially in 1999 and 2003 when he ran for office as a governorship candidate in Lagos. He claimed both times that he attended primary and secondary schools.

Atiku is coming

Tragedy struck in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun State when suspected ritualists reportedly killed a 10-year-old girl, whose parents are from Togo.

The incident happened around 7 am on Thursday at Kilani Street, Iyana Iyesi area of Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that a friend of the victim’s mother who was a neighbour sent the girl to her home to get charcoal.

But, on getting to the house, the girl sighted some hoodlums who had broken into the house, carting away some property.

It was further gathered that the attempt by the girl to run away having seen and identified them failed as they reportedly held her and killed her with a pestle.

A neighbour who pleaded anonymity said the killers were suspected ritualists who had hidden somewhere in the building, attacked her and smashed her head with a pestle.

The source said the girl’s cry for help attracted the neighbour’s attention, but she was dead before anybody could arrive at the scene.

A resident of the area, Bolanle Sunmonu, said that the neighbours searched for the suspects, but they had left and could not be found.

Our correspondent gathered that police were alerted but, before they could get to the scene to assess the situation, the suspects had long escaped.

Another resident said “the police have taken away the body of the victim. I know the girl very well, we used to call her Mama. The suspect killed her in cold blood. At first, we thought it was a thief, but further findings revealed that the guy is a ritualist.

“When we searched further, we discovered that the man had charms and a goat hidden in an empty building close to his victim’s house. When we got there, we saw a goat. The goat attacked one of us, but it was later killed. This is a sad occurrence,” another source stated.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said the killers were armed robbers and not ritualists.

The PPRO said, “It is true. The mother is a Togolese and has a female friend who is a Ghanaian. It was the Ghanaian woman that sent the girl to her house to get her charcoal.

“Getting to the house, she met the robbers who identified her and did not want her to expose them. They killed her.

“Our men have combed all the areas but had not got them. The command will ensure they are arrested.”

Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, on Tuesday, expressed the commitment of the state government observe the lessons of the Niger Delta in its oil exploration at the Kolmani River located between Gombe and Bauchi states.

Earlier in the day, President Muhammadu Buhari flagged off the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in the North-East, the first of its kind in the zone which has reportedly attracted $3 billion worth of invesments.

Yahaya, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, highlighted the state government’s efforts towards ensuring environmental and economic stability in the region.


“We’ve learnt our lessons. With the developments and what has been happening around the Niger Delta and other oil-producing areas of the world, naturally, no government will allow things to follow the same track,” he said.

“With regard to the issue of the environment, our Ministry of Environment is working hand in hand with the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) so that we will avoid all the mistakes and pitfalls that have been the big challenge of oil exploration and implementation in the southern part of the country.

“Going forward, Gombe State will be working with some consultants that have been guiding us as to what we need to do, especially by providing the required skill, workmanship, and labour that is needed in order to be useful and exploited in the oil operations.”

According to the governor, there will be job and business opportunities for the people of Gombe.

He explained that from the exploratory stage, the state government had begun engaging local communities in all the activities.

“There is nothing opaque. We are transparent and I believe the company and the NNPC itself are so transparent that these days no activity will be taken off the shelf.

“So, we shall make sure that from the environment to the impact on society and the community, there will be no cause for alarm. As a state government, we are ready to partner with any investor.

“There is a window for us to discuss; we are ready to engage our local business community so that along the value chain, anybody that is interested will identify where to fix and where to invest so that eventually, economic activity will be kick-started and it will be enjoyed by the people of the state,” he said.
