In a New Interview with Punch, Nollywood actor, Ayo Badmus shared his experience on his holiday Paris in France. The Actor said he’s mind literally died and resurrected again in Paris when he saw how beautiful the city is. See excerpts from his chat: Where’s the most interesting place you’ve visited recently? That would be France. I went to the Eiffel Tower in the morning, and when I returned there at night, it was like heaven. I went up and looked around the place; it was marvellous. It was like paradise to me. Before then, I had been to London Bridge, and when I saw it open and close, my mouth was agape. Seeing something so ancient and famous, thrilled me because we used to sing about London Bridge in primary school. Why did you choose to visit France? I had been hearing about France since I was a little kid. There is even a saying that goes, ‘See Paris and die.’ I wanted to see if I would die when I get there. However, I got to understand the real meaning of the death they were talking about. My mind literally died and resurrected again in that awesome city. What are some of those things you saw that literally made you die and rise again? I have never seen any city as well-lit as Paris; I even learnt that it is the most lit city in the world. Going round the city was so much fun and enjoyable. Did your visit to Paris in any way impact your love life? Paris changed me, and till today, the effect remains. I cherish love and talk about it; love conquers all. Everything I do is centered on love but people in this country take it to be something else; you cannot show love that much here. What was the most memorable part of this trip for you? It has to be Eiffel Tower. I have never seen anything so tall, big, romantic and well-lit. It is a monument and we can have something like that too in Nigeria. All these breathtaking sights around the world were made by men, and they make a lot of money from them. What do you think Nigerians can learn from French men when it comes to romantic gestures and taking care of their partners? The problem we have in Africa is poverty. Before you show love, you need to have a lot of confidence. If you don’t have money, you will lose that confidence. Africans can show affection, it’s just the poverty that doesn’t allow them practice it as they ought to. However, I always teach people about love, and tell them about my experience in Paris. Families should also show more love; parents should love their children more SOURCE: http://www.goldrushvibes.ng/died-woke-minutes-later-france-ayo-badmus/

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday insisted plans are afoot to remove yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos roads for a more efficient, well-structured and world class mass transportation system that would facilitate ease of movement within the city. The Governor also said that his administration would soon roll out a comprehensive environmental sanitation policy that would make the city to be clean without much burden on the people in terms of taxes. Speaking at the 14th Annual Lecture of the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) held at Muson Centre in Onikan with the theme: “Living Well Together, Tomorrow: The Challenge Of Africa’s Future Cities,” Governor Ambode admitted that the present connectivity mode in Lagos was not acceptable and befitting for a mega city, and as such a well-structured transportation mode would soon be put in place to address the challenge. “When I wake up in the morning and see all these yellow buses and see Okada and all kinds of tricycles and then we claim we are a mega city, that is not true and we must first acknowledge that that is a faulty connectivity that we are running. “Having accepted that, we have to look for the solution and that is why we want to banish yellow buses this year. We must address the issue of connectivity that makes people to move around with ease and that is where we are going. “For instance, people going from Ikorodu to CMS have started leaving their cars at home because the buses are very convenient and so why can’t we do that for other places? Yes, we don’t have the money to do that but we can go to the capital market and then improve on the technology of collection of fares and that will encourage investors and then the city will change,” Governor Ambode said. He said government was also embarking on massive reform in waste management system, expressing optimism that the plan will fully be actualized by July this year. He said: “We are also embarking on massive reform in the waste and sanitation management system. I don’t like the way the city is and the Private Sector Participants (PSP) collectors are not having enough capacity to do it but again should I tax people to death, the answer is no. I don’t want to tax people and so we need this partnership with the private sector so that they can invest in the sanitation management of the city and in no time maybe by July, the city will change forever.” The Governor, who recalled the massive infrastructures being put in place in critical sectors of the Lagos economy such as transport sector, road construction and rehabilitation, construction of lay-bys, and flyovers among others, said the main objective of his administration remained the growth of the Lagos economy from 5th to 3rd largest economy in Africa. On power, Governor Ambode said the major issue had always been with transmission and advocated an embedded power initiative that would allow clusters of Independent Power Projects (IPP) to run the cities. He said he had remained focused on some issues such as infrastructure, security, job creation, power, adoption of technology as an enabler and driving investment through ease of doing business. In his opening remarks, CVL founder and renowned development expert, Professor Pat Utomi said the idea behind the formation of the group was to get young people to begin to appreciate early what leadership was all about being service to the people. Speaking on the theme of the symposium, Utomi said Lagos remained the best governed State in Nigeria in the last 18 years, and a good example of what the country should be beyond and without oil. He commended Governor Ambode on his leadership style, and particularly congratulated Lagos for being named by the Rockefeller Foundation as one of the 100 most resilient cities in the world. Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke said the theme of the symposium was apt considering that Nigeria’s population by 2050 would have tripled and as such it was important for the country to start planning for livable cities. He commended Governor Ambode over his achievements in office so far, saying that it was obvious that the Governor has been performing very well and he is a good example of continuity in governance. On his part, Director of Centre for African Economies, Oxford University, Professor Paul Collier said from his over thirty years experience of coming to Nigeria, Governor Ambode has proven himself to be the third excellent Governor in a row in Lagos. Collier, who was the keynote speaker, said judging by the population projection of Nigeria by 2050, now is the time for the country to start building its cities to conform with modern trend. He said Nigeria’s oil had been a course which messed up the economy, and so there was need to start proper planning for development. As a way out, Collier suggested alliance between the business community and political actors, saying that to build a city that works, attention must be focused on energy and connectivity. ...Lays Foundation Of New Model School In Ojo Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday said his administration has awarded a contract for the construction of eight new blocks of classrooms as well as the renovation of 174 existing blocks of classrooms and the construction of perimeter fence in various schools to enhance security. The Governor, who spoke at the Foundation Laying ceremony of the New Model School in Awori College, Ojo, said the government has also commenced the supply of over 40,000 students' furniture on a quarterly basis to clear the identified shortfall of 160,000. Governor Ambode, who was represented at the ceremony by his Deputy, Dr. Mrs. Oluranti Adebule expressed optimism that the sustained efforts of his administration to improve the quality of teaching and learning environment would positively impact on the performance of students. He noted that performance of students in the last West African Examination Council (WAEC) conducted examination was most assuring and an indication that the State was moving in the right direction. The Governor said, "Today we are introducing a new model of block of classrooms in our public secondary schools. This edifice, apart from aiding teaching and learning, will compare favourably with high school structures in leading countries of the world. "Apart from the aesthetics value, the new structure is capable of enhancing security of students, staff and schools materials in the face of the recent security breaches in our schools. It would comprise 36 classrooms, library, staff rooms, multipurpose hall, laboratories, principal/Vice Principal's offices and modern toilet facilities for both junior and senior schools." He assured students in the State that his administration was committed to building a future of great opportunities, possibilities and prosperity through the provision of qualitative education that is consistent with the demands of the 21stcentury. He enjoined the students to embrace the opportunities being provided by showing serious commitment to their studies and shun all negative values that could hinder their dreams. "Let me assure all parents that we will continue to do our very best to ensure that our schools are safe from intruders. We have put in place measures to secure our pupils, students, teaching and non teaching staff. Our standards are high and we will continue to make them better," the Governor said. Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, said that the words and actions of Governor Ambode about education has spoken loud and in unequivocal terms about his passion to ensure the provision of high quality education that is accessible to all learners through effective and efficient management of resources for the attainment of self reliance and socio- economic development. Also, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Lanre Ogunyemi, urged residents to appreciate the government's prompt response to anything that has to do with education and future development of youths in the State, adding that the priority being accorded education in the state, particularly by the Ambode-led administration cannot but be applauded. He said though other states of the federation find it difficult to pay teachers' salary, the reverse was the case in Lagos as Governor Ambode pays salaries of staff, teachers inclusive on the 22nd of every month. "This present administration recently employed more that 1,300 teachers and is about employing another 1,000. All these and other achievements were made possible due to good managers and able lieutenants at the helm of affairs as far as education is concerned," Ogunyemi said. Nollywood actress, Abiodun Okeowo popularly known as Omo Butty said an actress must be able to UnCloth anywhere at any time if the situation warrants it in a chat with Sunday Spice. Read her words; While I was with Ray Eyiwunmi Organisation, I learnt that the show must always go on no matter what happens. As an actor, you must be focused and disciplined. Before getting into the industry, I was temperamental but I have since learnt how to be patient and take whatever comes my way. Back then, we were also taught that you must be able to UnCloth anywhere and change into costumes because you can be called to perform anywhere and anytime. You also need to have a good body; that way you can play any role and would not feel bad about undressing when there is a need to do so. In December 2016, The Wedding Party was released and ever since people haven’t stopped talking about it. And it’s not difficult to see why; the movie grossed over ₦36 million, in its first 3 days, and over ₦200 million by the third week of release. Nollywood — Nigeria’s movie industry — appears to be ahead of other sectors as of now, possibly kicking even the almighty music sector behind it. Multinationals are beginning to sponsor the production of movies in exchange for some level of brand visibility and such partnerships are beginning to yield a lot of potentials. This leaves us with the question; what is going on in the Nigerian tech sector? In all of the excitement about The Wedding Party, there are a few things techies can learn from the movie. Timing The production of The Wedding Party was reportedly completed around September/October 2016. However, the producers chose to sit on it, employing trailers and a strong media push to usher in a mega release in December. They knew December was a peak period when most people, left with nothing to do during the holidays, would be looking to have some fun. Techprenuers need to understand that the timing of your products/services could either mar or make your business. We should be aware of our environment and what the market is saying. We shouldn’t jump in blindly and expect results. It is difficult to sit on a very wonderful product but we should understand that, the end is what justifies the means. Release your product during peak times. Collaboration the wedding party cast Kemi Adetiba, director of The Wedding Party, did well by bringing together various sectors just to highlight them. This brought a different feel that we had not experienced before. The movie cuts across other sectors like music, comedy and fashion, bringing them under one umbrella. It’s quite a shame that nobody from the tech sector was involved in the movie. Wouldn’t it have been nice to see Jason Njoku, for example, as one of the cast? My point is that the tech sector isolates itself from other sectors, making us difficult to reach. Entrepreneurs in the tech sector should endeavor to socialize with other sectors and collaborate on some of our projects. Let’s get other sectors involved. A good example is this commercial by Hotels.ng which featured Wofa Fada, a popular comedian. That was a very good way to collaborate; let’s have more of that. Professionalism One of the highlights The Wedding Party was Shola Sobowale in her true form. She brought some level of professionalism I have not seen in a very long time in the movie scene. But she is just one of the many professionals who made the movie stand out in all ways. You can’t take away the role of evergreen professionals from a sector because they understand the past, the present and most likely the future of that sector. For us in the tech sector, let’s not forget the professionals; those who have given in their all to the industry. They still mean a lot to the industry and should be given their place as the sector grows. Newbies should embrace oldies and work together to build something worth celebrating. The sector can only grow if we all come (old and new) together to create a better industry. The use of media There is no doubt that the media played a huge role in the success of The Wedding Party. From the very conception, we saw several clips that got people talking and eagerly waiting for the release. The media was needed as a channel to blow their trumpet from all corners. This made both people involved with movie making and the general public feel like they were part of the success; so much so that we didn’t mind parting away with some cash. The media image for the movie was strong and this got me thinking. Imagine a tech product having the same amount of media hype. It is certain is that we all need the media to be able to communicate our plans and products to the general public. But whatever form of media we plan to use, we should make sure it is strategic, timely and straight to the point. We should not be shy to seek help from other sectors to leverage on the existing status quo. We can all do well by helping one another from our areas of strength. The buzz around The Wedding Party is almost over but I am certain we have picked a thing or two from the movie and are also looking forward to achieving better results in months to come in all our dealings. What do you love about The Wedding Party? SOURCE: http://www.goldrushvibes.ng/4-practical-business-lessons-wedding-party/
