PoliticsRe: If Tinubu Wins In 2023, We Are All Losers' by Pluto33: 10:14am On Sep 18, 2024
Makavelli001:
'If Tinubu Wins In 2023, We Are All Losers'

One of the most foolish things I've heard is Tinubu supporters saying "we will teach you politics in 2023".

You want to use the lives of over 200 million Nigeroans to "teach politics"?

You are pushing for a sick, incoherent criminal with no history of honest work to win just so you can say "I told you so"?

Listen, if Tinubu wins in 2023, we are all losers. All of us.

Even you that you are pushing for him to win here, you are a big loser.

It should be the height of madness to work hard all your life, shun crime, teach your children to choose honesty and hope they don't turn criminals.

Only for you yourself to be actively campaigning and rooting for a criminal with no history of honest work for President.

There's no excuse for this.

Even if Peter Obi wasn't running, you should be ashamed, if there's any decency left in you, to campaign for someone like Tinubu for President.

You say Peter Obi is a liar.

You say he invested government money in private businesses and the proceeds are going back to government.

Let us assume that all these are true. He would still be 100 times better than Atiku or Tinubu.

If lying is the only vice Nigerian leaders have, this country would not be where it is today.

That's why it's ridiculous when people say "all these politicians are the same" when it comes to justifying why they are supporting Tinubu.

How is lying and being a bag man for drug syndicates, having no traceable history of legitimate work or childhood the same thing?

If you want to be dishonest, chest it. Don't hide under "all these politicians are the same" because everyone can see they are not.

If Tinubu wins in 2023, we should all bow our heads and weep.

You wonder why children say they want to grow up to be internet fraudsters (Mo fe se Yahoo) but would gladly campaign for a man who has no history of legitimate work and is a drug lord for President?

What's there for children to aspire to? Why should anyone choose to work legitimately? Why not do Yahoo? Why not cut corners?

Why work hard and honestly when you can commit crime, not do honest work once in your life and still become President one day?

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. ‍♂️

Ndiyo!

PoliticsUN Donates $6m For Borno Flood Victims by Pluto33(op): 9:50am On Sep 18, 2024
United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Fall, yesterday announced the sum of $6 million from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund to support flood victims in Borno State.

Alau Dam, located just over 10 miles to the south of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State collapsed on September 10, compelling hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.

UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, at a briefing in New York Monday, said a joint mission, comprising UN agencies and NGOs, alongside the Nigeria Red Cross Society, visited the main city of Maiduguri over the weekend.

Dujarric said they met with people who had been impacted, many of whom had already been displaced multiple times by conflict and insecurity in the area.

“We and our partners are providing them with hot meals, we are facilitating air drops of food in hard-to-reach areas cut off by flood waters, and we are also trucking in water.

“We are also providing water and sanitation hygiene services and water purification tablets to stem disease outbreaks.

“This is in addition to supplying hygiene and dignity kits to women and girls, as well as emergency health and shelter services,” she said.

Dujarric said the staff of the UN Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs were also working closely with donors to secure additional funding.

Emmanuel Bigenimana, the head of the World Food Programme, WFP, office in Maiduguri, had earlier said he managed to fly over the city in a UN Humanitarian Air Service helicopter dispatched by WFP, to conduct a rapid assessment of damage and needs.

While noting that homes, infrastructure, roads, schools and hospitals were submerged by water, he said: “What I have seen is really heartbreaking. Many, many people, I’m talking of over 200,000 – 300,000 displaced people, are overcrowded in several IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps and also on the streets.”

WFP reported that the dam collapse saw river water overrunning 50 per cent of Maiduguri and state authorities issued evacuation orders to residents in the affected areas, appealing for humanitarian support.

Speaking from the centre of one of the IDP camps, Bigenimana said the WFP had managed to open soup kitchens to provide hot meals to the affected people and was scaling up its response alongside the authorities and partners.

”The soup kitchens located in three camps, including Teachers’ Village, Asheikh and Yerwa, aim to provide nutritious hot meals to 50,000 of the worst affected children, women, and men who have lost their homes.”

“This is really an additional burden to already existing crises. This region has been facing conflict for a decade,” Bigenimana stressed.

Borno State was one of the areas worst affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, which the UN said earlier this year, had been controlled to some extent.

Bigenimana added: “More recently, we have seen food inflation, food prices have been skyrocketing, really affecting millions of people who are facing food insecurity.

“We need more resources to save lives and to put together efforts to respond to the crises, as well as think of long-term recovery and solutions.”

PoliticsBandits Raid Katsina Hospital, Abduct Women by Pluto33(op): 10:21am On Sep 13, 2024
Bandits have attacked Kurfi General Hospital in Kurfi local government area of Katsina state, shooting a watchman and abducting four women, including the wife of one of the health officials on duty.

A reliable source from the area told our reporter that three of the bandits who entered the hospital around 10:45am unarmed, later engaged the guardsman who intercepted them to inquire about their mission at the hospital.

“Whey they started arguing, the watchman quickly went and locked the hospital gate, unknown to him that other armed members of the attackers were outside.

“They jumped over the wall fence and shot the watch man in the stomach. It was thought that he had died but was later given first aid and rushed to a hospital in Katsina” the source said.

Daily Trust gathered that the attackers had wanted to abduct one Mustapha Hamza who is a casual staff of the hospital on duty at the time, but he luckily escaped but unfortunately his wife, who accompanied him to the hospital, was abducted in the process.

“Mustapha is an anastasia nurse and he was needed at the time to attend to a woman who wanted to undergo surgery.

“Usually, his wife would follow him when ever he is called because she would not be comfortable staying back home alone. And that was how she fell victim in the attack,” a source who craved anonymity said.

Kurfi was hitherto more or less a fortified town as bandits hardly gained access due to activities of local vigilante group supported by some well-to-do members of the community.

However, that fortification was broken with the collapse of the vigilante group, with some residents blaming it on political differences of some highly-placed individuals in the area.

Not long ago, a nursing mother was abducted with her twin children and the third one who is not more than four years old.

A resident of Kurfi told Daily Trust that the mother and twin children were released by their captors after the payment of N3.5m.

However, the young boy, fondly called AK, is still in captivity as the bandits have asked for an additional N1.5m for his release.

Another resident of Kurfi blamed some of the recent attacks on informants who migrated to the town when it was safer.

Though there is no official statement from security agencies, the Kurfi council chairman, Mannir Shehu Wurma, confirmed the attack, assuring that the council is on top of the situation.

PoliticsTinubu Goes Missing In Transit Again by Pluto33(op): 10:12am On Sep 13, 2024
PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu’s overseas travels and exact whereabouts have again become a subject of speculation. On August 29, Tinubu embarked on a trip to China, and Nigerians were told he would make a brief stopover in Dubai. He suddenly reappeared in London on Wednesday.

He had landed in Beijing in the early hours of September 1. He had a busy week meeting and signing agreements with Chinese political and business leaders on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The President concluded his official engagements in China by meeting with Nigerians living in the country on September 5. He left China the same day.

Since then, Nigerians have not been told exactly where he was until he visited King Charles III on Wednesday. A State House statement on September 6 said that the President had directed that victims of the Maiduguri flood should be evacuated, and relief provided. The statement neglected to indicate where the President was issuing orders from.

It is disturbing that citizens do not know the whereabouts of their President. The office of the President is a public trust, and citizens have a right to know where the President is. Between his departure from Beijing and appearance in London, no explanations were offered. Such evasiveness is below the Presidency.

This is not the first time that Tinubu has given Nigerians the slip. On April 23, the President travelled to The Netherlands to visit the then Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, before journeying on to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Special Meeting of the World Economic Forum held between April 28 and 29.

Six days after the event, he had not returned, and Nigerians started asking questions which were met with silence by the Presidency until May 8 when it revealed that Tinubu would be returning from Europe the next day.

On January 24, Tinubu left for a “private visit” to France details of which were shrouded in secrecy and set off health rumours until his return after two weeks. On August 19, Tinubu flew for the first time in the new presidential jet to Paris, France, for what the Presidency described as a brief work stay, details of which were not given. He returned after three days.

While the President has been away, the home front has been in disarray with the petrol crisis lingering for over a month and floods overtaking many states including Borno and Bauchi. Terrorists and bandits have been running riot as usual. Such situations require the leader of the country to be on the ground, rallying a response and finding solutions, not taking extended holidays.

The President should appreciate the weight of his responsibilities. Pontificating in China about the necessity of petrol subsidy removal being the magic wand to bridge the country’s massive infrastructure deficit when citizens at home are spending 16 hours in petrol queues is insensitive.

It is inconceivable that the leaders of France, the United Kingdom and China will not account for their whereabouts to citizens.

Tinubu has continued in the disdainful tradition of his predecessors, taking Nigerians for granted. The late President Umaru Yar’Adua spent months in foreign hospitals in a vegetative state while his aides lied to Nigerians about his ability to function in office until he died in May 2010. Former President Muhammadu Buhari spent 225 days abroad on medical trips without any accounting to the citizens.

In a presidential system, the office of the President is of utmost importance as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The president of the United States travels around with the country’s nuclear codes. Americans know where he is always.

Democracy means accountability and Tinubu should know. A penchant for the President to undertake surreptitious visits to foreign capitals diminishes the office.

PoliticsFuel Scarcity Hawkers Sell Cheaper Than Filling Stations- Investigation by Pluto33(op): 9:44am On Sep 13, 2024
Nigerians have not seen the last of the current petrol scarcity in the country as some funny developments have continued to emerge by the day.

The most amusing one presently is that fuel is now sold cheaper by hawkers when compared to the pump price at filling stations.

Vanguard investigation revealed that fuel is sold at #1,000 per litre by hawkers along Mile 2-Apapa expressway as against #1,070 and more at most filling stations controlled by independent marketers.
Apart from major distributors like Mobil, Total, Ardova Plc (formerly Forte oil), MRS, and Eternal filling stations, other are dispensing petrol at between #1,070 to #1,400 per litre.

Vanguard investigations further showed that while fuel might not be available at some filling stations, motorists could easily find any quantity to buy from the nearby hawkers displaying the product mostly in white gallons.

Investigations revealed that these hawkers never run out of product and they are sure of constant supply from tanker drivers at night who give them the fuel at give-away prices.

Although the hawkers were not ready to disclose their source of procurement, some people also doing business in the area said that the tanker drivers supplied the fuel to the boys without minding the loss to the owners of the product.

“My brother, you need to come around here at night when this lucrative business is going on and the kind of money that exchanges hands.

“I’m even considering joining them but I doubt if they would sell to me. The business is coded.
“The drivers know their customers and they do not hesitate selling to them,” a young man who wouldn’t like to be identified told Vanguard.

Meanwhile, a young man who told our reporter that he was rescued a few days ago, when he ran out of fuel by the hawkers described them as God-sent.

“I ran out of fuel in the traffic along Mile-2 expressway and only God knows what would have happened to me if these hawkers were not there to sell petrol,” he said.

The man further said, “My car dashboard showed the amber light from Lekki, my place of work and I was looking out for a place to top my fuel but couldn’t find any on the road. “The car finally stopped around Mile-2 at 8:30pm in traffic. I had no option than to patronize the hawkers who graciously sold petrol to me at #1,000 per litre. In fact I was ready to pay more for it, given how urgent I needed it.

“Maybe, I would have been attacked by hoodlums if not for the intervention of the hawkers who came handy with the product.”

The situation has become so critical that most motorists see the fuel by the hawkers as the last option and would target to buy form them at anytime of the day or night.

Some buyers who patronize these petrol sellers confirmed that apart from the competitive pricing, the petrol sold by the hawkers is of the same quality with what is available at the filling stations.

All kind of cars, including exotic ones buy petrol from these hawkers.
