On the 8th of July, 2013. There were showers as usual or as expected to be in Lagos and environs. Though maybe too early because it started at my area, Ilasamaja around 8am and it didn’t stop till afternoon. I wouldn’t say I’d sit at home, I had some places to touch, starting with GTbank at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), then University Of Lagos (UNILAG) to submit my Masters Form, later to Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) national headquarter at Ebute-Metta and finally to Lagos State University (LASU) to collect my long due certificate and also get some personal things done. I left home in the rain but it was more like a drizzle so I wasn’t really wet. It was the normal light showers though it had rained cats and dogs before I left. On getting to Idiaraba where LUTH was located, it was an eyesore, the water on the new road reminded me of the flood in Thailand. It was terrible when I noticed a schoolboy of about 7years of age who struggled in the water with his little brother and also the basket of food. But like a true blood brother, he won the tussle but had to sacrifice their food for that. As if that was not enough, when I got to LUTH gate on the bike, it was practically flooded, I had to plead with a commercial bike rider to take me across the “river”. There were lots of Lagosians doing the rituals “shoes in the hand, trousers rolled up, skirts/ wrappers pulled up and walking in water bare footed”. I was done with the transaction at GTbank under 10mins, very strange but true, thanks to the rain I guess, it kept people away from banking that time. My journey to UNILAG was smooth; not too much flood so it was ok. I was done with the submission and purchase of past question in no time, I headed to Oyingbo to get a bike to RCCG at Ebute-metta and the rain increased the tempo. This time around, I was beaten blue black and it subsided a bit. I moved, Oyingbo was a terrible sight, from the UBA bank to Total filling station down the road along Freeman street, the road was filled with black waters. I sailed in it anyways before I could get a bike to the church. Coming back from the church was another great task because the rain poured heavily. The huge drainage system on that street couldn’t hold the water, it overflowed and the street was just like the last tsunami in Chicago but this was black. I couldn’t proceed on my journey to LASU because I was like a shower running. I was terribly soaked and my skin was gradually turning white. I got to Oyingbo and the story was still the same, got another bus to Yaba and that was when I saw another shocker, Adekunle Fajuyi/Herbert Macauly road was totally covered in dirty water. Drivers were so careful as they sailed through the man made river. The war of umbrellas was seen when I got to Yaba, waters everywhere on the road and there was a tiny place that was dry like the path on the Red Sea, all passersby were with their umbrellas. It was raining and no one move for anyone so the umbrellas had to struggle with themselves. Very funny to behold, the bent and small umbrellas had issues with big and better ones. It was this sight that led to this piece as I journeyed back to my home in a bus from Yaba to Idi-araba. On getting to Idi-araba, the water was terrific, everyone was doing the “rituals” except he or she was on bike or in a car. Some lessons here :- 1 Parents should please take care of their children/wards most especially this wet season 2 Lagosians should desist from dumping refuse on water ways and drainages. 3 Government should always make sure that there’s drainage on all new and existing roads. Billyonaire: Nairalanders and beef. Are Niger Deltans supposed to work in reality ? Listen, Niger Deltans are not supposed to work a day in their lives. How hard do Qatar citizens work ? How hard do Kuwaitis work ? Congrats to Asari.Guy, reason well nah. How many of them has this? And what exactly can u attach Asari to? |

papaejima1: T.A Orji again? My thoughts exactly. I was 1st confused when I saw 2014, I thot it was a mistake. T.A Orji, calm down. We know better. |

Rooneyboy: Absolute nonsense , u have no idea how JAMB is being operated.Mr. Rooney! If students passed, cutoff comes into play. If they had average of 200, they'd be lookin forward to the next step whch is postjamb whch we all know has absolute power in selecting students. In this case, JAMB didn't allow the students pass cos of the capacity issue at our schools. U're so right about what u said but if u've not heard (either rumor or not), it was recorded that JAMB marked students down by 100scores, this was discovered when aggrieved students stormed JAMB office in Lag. See bro, its not the issue of havin 200 or more, or even less, the issue is with the state of infrastructure in our schools. |
spikes C: Redirect to this =>>>True talk from Spikes but we aint saying the same thing. U don't have to intentionally mark students down, let the schools do the selection with their post jamb, or what's d essence of post jamb? |
spikes C: Wooow! It baffles me when a Nigerian lives in self denial. Did you really read what you just wrote here. If they hold you up to defend it, can you?SurE I can, let's check this, UNILAG has capacity for only abt 5000, OOU for about 7000 or there about and LASU also about that amount, where the hell do we want to squeeze in 1.7million students? Its not self denial. Its FACT. |
Ok! Reps now forming to be the advocate for the people, good. But is this the right question? Sometimes last year, some of us heard (maybe rummor ) that there won't be JAMB this year only for us to hear again that the form was on sale. Its not a breaking news that the corruption that has eaten deep in the society has spread its tentacles to JAMB and instead of whoever is in charge to regulate the exam body, the masses were left to suffer by payin a huge sum to get d form and still failed. Our universities don't have the capacity to absorb the roughly 1.7millions candidates so they were intentionally marked down by the Exam body. SHAME!!! These same students will join the over 1million nextyear to write the exam and same thing will happen. Why won't private universities charge exorbitant prices? |
spikes C: I totally hate this about the reps. Are they trying to say JAMB don't know there job or what. Or that people really didn't fail.------------------------------------------------------------------ Wooow! It baffles me when a Nigerian writes like this. The main reason for the mass failure is because the universities don't have the right capacity to absorb students, so JAMB intentionally failed students. |
I am lonely Just like a lil bird in a nest The mother is out in search of food The weather is cold No feather The mother comes around with food and d baby birth was fed n kept warm Everything feels aiight I feel so far away Just like a mother who gives birth and have not seen d baby She longs to see if its a boy or girl Everything seems not right She is in the same room with d baby but can't see it She needs to see, touch and kiss it Suddenly the nurse brings the baby and it is a female. Nice write up Amaka. I'd like to invite you for 1 of my programs, CHIASMUS 'a nite of poet and spoken words'. Keep it up ma'am. |
Its was on a sunday evening. Contrary to the weather, it was cool. The breeze was blowing gently. The trees behind my room were whistling. The leaves were dropping on the roofing sheet. The sun was hiding under a blanket of fairly thick cloud. Everywhere was normal and beautiful. Outside my door were some house flies going about their businesses. Little butterflies were the prey while lizards and wall gecko were d predator. The birds were busy picking up insects as dinner I guess. Everything looked beautiful. I went back to my room and I got busy. Busy with my phone as I read the messages. I smiled, chuckled, laughed and smirked. The gentle breeze, accompanied with the musical sound on my roofing sheet gave me comfort as I reminisced. Suddenly, I grew cold. Something in me was telling me to do something while another thing was telling me I'd fail. I kept calm. I heard "now is the time". I dropped my phone. Paced around my room. Goose pimples all over me. Suddenly I started feeling heat. The voice came back in a still manner, "do it now". I picked my phone and composed an SMS. I sent it and not long, I got a reply. I was engaged in the act for a while. I sent another SMS at around 8:30pm or so and it took a while for the reply... The 1st voice came back confirming to me that I just failed. I watch the phone closely but nothing happened. I searched for the 2nd voice from within but I couldn't find it. It was 8:40pm and I was about blaming myself. Everything had seized all along. I couldn't hear the music on my roofing sheet anymore. There was heat. Everything was not normal. I checked the time. It was 8:43pm. The breeze began blowing and I noticed it instantly. At least it calmed me down and the heat gradually escaped. The music started again. Everything seemed normal or like the 1st time. I noticed the change instantly. I checked the network of my phone. It was almost spilling over. I checked the time again and it was 8:44pm. While I was about dropping the phone. An SMS came in and it was the reply of my last sent SMS. I almost screamed. I saw angels smiling. She just accepted me into her life. She agreed to be my woman. She agreed to be my missing rib. She agreed to be my help mate. She agreed to be my lady. The still voice came back telling me "I told you, you won" I sent her another SMS and she replied with "call me, let me hear my new boyfriend's voice" I didn't have enough credit but I called her. Its been so beautiful since that day and that was how it all started ... God bless 23rd of January, 2011 by 8:44:06pm. |

...After his reign, EFCC will arrest and we'll hear something like national pardon in future. Nigeria!!! |
He said pardoning Mr. Alamieyeseigha was in order as the former Bayelsa governor had suffered enough. “A man was deposed. He was hounded, tried and jail. What is wrong with giving pardon to a remorseful sinner? “How come granting pardon to him has become an aberration? Is it because he is from Bayelsa? Is it from he is from South-South? Is it because he is connected to Mr. President?” If this is the basis for granting pardon in my country, then all prisoners should be released. How would u grant a man that robbed a whole state of their future on the basis that he's suffered enuf? God help Nigeria. I rest my pen. |
Impeachment isn't the way forward. None of the "leaders" up there is faithful to Nigerians so let him finish is 4yrs tenure. I don't trust APC too but let a devil fight a devil. |
motif8: this is just rubbish how has the so call senator helped osun to achieve millenium goal, did Nigeria spoilt in the hand of GEJ? gej is on a rebuilding mission, the attention seeking mumu senator should know that it will take time, he should hold the past head of states and leaders responsible for power failureIf GEJ is not to be blamed, he's not doing anything to better the lives of the masses. He's known for his decisions that are not "palatable" for the masses. I don't know if the senator has done anything for his constituency too bt I'm so sure Bola Tinubu is not helping Nigerians as well. The problem is how GEJ has tackled issues of national interest. He's not been a man. Only God knows who's right. |

[quote author=ypzilanti]Meanwhile, foreign press has started reporting this: Nigeria pardons former political benefactor of president who stole millions as state governor. LAGOS, Nigeria - A presidential adviser says Nigeria has pardoned the former political benefactor of the nation's president, convicted of stealing millions of dollars while serving as a state governor. Adviser Doyin Okupe said Wednesday that Nigeria's Council of States, a group headed by President Goodluck Jonathan, had approved the pardon for former Bayelsa state Gov. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. The decision, made in a closed-door meeting Tuesday, was greeted by outrage across Nigeria, an oil-rich nation long considered by activists as having one of the world's most corrupt governments. Nuhu Ribadu, a former police officer and corruption fighter in Nigeria, told The Associated Press that the decision was "the final nail" in the coffin for fighting graft in the country. _______________________________________ GEJ and his cohorts planned to kill this country and they are gradually making it happen. Inasmuch as I don't really like APC, I think its better to raise a devil to fight a devil. At least there won't be monopoly of power. This is terribly sad bt we're here. 2015 is jst around the corner. God bless Nigeria and the faithful Nigerians |
Ice4jez: becos he is well to do means we dat elect him der should not have a say when his actions affect our daily livess.God which school do u attend cos u re so clueless n retardedI tire o. Shey na punishment as we vote ni? Y are young Nigerians thinking like this, its a shameful thing and GEJ is a shame himself. |
