I was on my way home from the bank this morning...I was about to board a keke home from goodwill bus stop,okpuno,awka when I saw a young lady and a guy arguing at the first floor of a plaza...I just stood watching what was going to happen...the man said "you stepped on me and didn't apologise" and decided to step on the lady back three times...the man not satisfied told the girl that he will slap her, the girl said he can't...in the heat of the argument,the man picked up a stone holding the door of the shop in front of which they were and threw it at the girl...the stone hit the face of the girl, in retaliation,the girl picked up the stone an threw it back at the guy which also hit the back of the guy's head...so the guy started beating the young lady, other guys from nowhere came too and started beating the lady stripping her almost naked in the process...people just stood watching started...i started shouting that it was not just the lady who was at fault and that I watched the whole scenario not knowing that the guy and the others were the street touts(okpuno youths) who collects money from traders...so one of them attacked me, started punching my face...I immediately stopped and entered a keke to go to the nearest police station...I went to B division awka...I met a police officer(lady) at the gate.i told her I had an urgent situation....I briefly narrated everything to her so she said I should go to the counter...I went to the counter met two police officers (ladies) police officer UDOH and police officer DIM(I'm not so conversant with there ranks)...I narrated everything for them and told them that they really need to go save that girl...the police officer DIM,after showing a not caring attitude just said that there were no available officers to go...I was surprised at such a statement...I asked to see the DPO...she said I should go to the second office at the back in which I did, I saw at the door SO...as I was about explaining the situation to the man I met there,he said I should go back to the counter...out of anger, i went back and told the police officers(UDOH and DIM) I met that if the lady dies I will make sure the whole world knows that they failed her as a country and I left...not satisfied myself with the outcome I told the keke driver to go back to the place...I started asking people around about the whereabouts of the lady...the people around were afraid to talk..I was surprised and shocked...so i persistently continued...I eventually met some people who told me that they don't know where they took the girl to and that people are afraid to talk because they are the people(the guys who were beating the girl)of okpuno and that the young lady doesn't have someone to speak for her.some of them even started asking me if the young lady was my sister that i was trying to help her and that i should just let it go...I just told them that what if it was my sisters who were in such a situation and moreover I saw everything that happened from the beginning...one of the traders even told me the name of the guy(akagbe) that punched me.I stayed there for over an hour waiting to see if i could see the girl so i could go and take care of her health first and also, so we could report the case to the CPS awka...God!!! How can a lady survive such evil from three men...it's not fair...
Our system has failed us...
They need to face the law...
