Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete has fired a senior government minister accused of wrongly taking $1m (£640,000) from a businessman. Land and Housing Minister Anna Tibaijuka had not shown "due diligence" when she took the money, he said. Ms Tibaijuka, a former UN official, denies any wrongdoing. She is a high-profile casualty in a corruption scandal that has rocked Tanzania's government and energy firms, straining relations with donors. On 17 December, Attorney-General Frederick Werema resigned after MPs accused him of authorising the fraudulent transfer of about $120m to an energy firm. He denied the allegation, but said he was stepping down because the controversy had "disrupted the country's political atmosphere". The corruption scandal has dominated media coverage in Tanzania Mr Kikwete, in a televised address, said the government was still investigating allegations of impropriety against Energy and Minerals Minister Sospeter Muhongo and his permanent secretary Eliakim Maswi. The president's office later said that Mr Maswi had been suspended, pending the outcome of the probe. Ms Tibaijuka rejected parliament's call for her resignation, saying the $1m was a donation for a school where she serves as the main fundraiser. She accepted it in good faith and presented it to the school, she said. However, Mr Kikwete said he had dismissed her because "one of the biggest questions raised is why this money was not paid directly to the school and was instead deposited in a personal bank account in her name," Reuters news agency quotes him as saying. Ms Tibaijuka was the executive director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, before she became an MP and government minister in 2010. Tanzania's parliament, which is dominated by the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, has been putting pressure on Mr Kikwete to sack top officials accused of siphoning government money in collusion with businessmen linked to the energy sector. An investigation by a parliamentary watchdog committee found that about $120m had been taken from an escrow account, paid to an energy firm and then given to various government ministers. A group of 12 donors - including Japan, the UK, the World Bank and the African Development Bank - decided in October to withhold about $490m until the government took action over the alleged corruption. Mr Kikwete took office in 2005 with a promise to tackle corruption in government. http://m.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30585980 |

Former militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, on Sunday declared that President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015 was already settled, as his Niger Delta compatriots would not succumb to any force opposed to its full actualization. There would be blood in the streets if Mr. Jonathan is not reelected president in the 2015 election, the militant leader threatened. Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who was a guest on a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, monitored in Abuja, said he would register as a full member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enable him join in the fight to realize the president’s re-election bid. “The way things are going, there is no sitting on the fence in the battle before us,” Mr. Asari-Dokubo said. “When some people say they have a right to rule and others don’t have, then there is no sitting on the fence. All of us will have to be in the ring and fight. We cannot leave Goodluck (Jonathan) alone. “My support for Jonathan will be biased, because charity begins at home. Monkey no fine, but im mama like am. Goodluck, na my person. 2015 is already a settled matter. Goodluck Jonathan would be President in 2015. “Whether they contest or they don’t. If they say the blood of the dogs and the baboons will be soaked in the streets, or salt water in the streets, we will help them in blood in the streets.” Insisting there was no crisis in the PDP in the wake of the walkout during the recent National Convention by some aggrieved members, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and seven governors, Mr. Asari- Dokubo said the exit of seven out of 23 governors elected on PDP ticket was not enough to cause any crisis. On the role of two former Presidents, Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, who are working towards an amicable resolution of the crisis, Asari-Dokubo described the duo, who are also members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP, as “agents provocateur”, who are fueling the crisis by declaring that they do not want Jonathan to run in the 2015 elections. He accused Messrs Babangida and Obasanjo of secretly encouraging the Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido to run for President, with Rivers state governor, Chubuike Amaechi as his deputy, adding that at one recent public function, Mr. Babangida had said that Mr. Amaechi and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, were good to run for higher offices come 2015. He described the Rivers state governor as “a traitor to the collective aspirations of the people of Rivers State,” saying whatever situation the governor is facing he deserved it, as there was no better way a traitor could be treated by Rivers people. On the intervention of the National Assembly in the crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly, the militant leader criticized the decision to take over the legislative functions of the Assembly, saying the lawmaker lacked the moral high ground to have done so, since they were unable to take a similar action when they were embroiled in corruption charges a few years ago. Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who claimed he was a card- carrying member and major financial of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) until December 27, 2010, said he would be joining the PDP to enable him join in fighting for President Jonathan’s candidacy from the inside. Ruling out any possibility of running for any office in 2015, he said his focus for now was on getting the Mr. Jonathan’s reelection project delivered. “I will declare for the PDP. We will fight, because in this battle, there is no retreat, no surrender. We will not take any prisoner of war. It will be total battle,” he said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/144368-there-will-be-bloodshed-if-jonathan-loses-in-2015-says-asari-dokubo.html |
Terror Killing Nigerians you say it is sabotage. ...Money keeps missing in billions you say it is ordinary stealing...Declare your assets you say you don't give a damn....We have great navy but you handover pipelines safety to militants......you support stomach infrastructure instead of equipping the people to 'fish'... And now, you said we are impatient. ...that you used the last 6years to plant and that it will germinate in the next four years......What exactly could that be........? You use 6years to do only planting. ..Planting nikan? LOL..... If it takes someone 20 years to prepare for madness, when exactly is he going to 'eat the stick' and enter market? When a babalawo begins to look up to the roof, it shows he doesn't understand the language of the oracle....because oracle doesn't hide on the roof! CHANGE IN 2015...Yes We Can. |

One of the biggest supporters and kinsman of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has declared that the president has lost the support of his political base, the South-south and the South-East owing to the failure of his government to deliver on its promises. Dokubo-Asari, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, said that it would be tough for Jonathan to win the presidential election in 2015 if he decides to run based on the poor showing of his administration. He said that his decision to speak out was for him and others who are ardent supporters of Jonathan not to be blamed for his failure in 2015. He said: “I want to start with an Ijaw proverb, which says: the eyes watched its seven children to death. Instead of advising them, it was just looking at them until they died, while the mouth talked its only child to life and success. “We have continued as Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta and South-South to support the presidency of President Goodluck Jonathan, but a time has come when silence cannot be golden. “We mainly speak out in issues that are very critical to the survival of our people, the survival of the people of the South-South and the South- East, which happens to be the political base of Goodluck Jonathan. “Jonathan is surrounded by very greedy people who are only in the Presidency to enrich themselves at the expense of Goodluck himself. “This brings us to another Kalabari proverb, which says: where there are elders, a goat cannot be allowed to deliver tied to a stick. “If we don’t talk and we continue to brush it aside, tomorrow we will be blamed and people will say: Mujahid Dokubo-Asari was around when Goodlcuk Jonathan was president and he didn’t talk. “Them I will be an accomplice and accessory after the fact…. “It is alarming because the South-South must have its uninterrupted eight years tenure, which is constitutional. “But with how things are going under Jonathan’s watch, we are afraid that we may not be able to have our eight years tenure because there will be no magic about it if it is going to be one man one vote.” Dokubo-Asari said he will continue to speak out despite the fact that he had benefitted from Jonathan, adding that one of those causing trouble for the President remains the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godsday Orubebe. He said: “I have benefited immensely from Goodluck Jonathan with my stake but benefit alone is not enough to make me to keep quiet when the period is very challenging for our people. “So, some of us are tempted to ask this question: why are all these things happening? “Why has the President allow some ministers like Godsday Orubebe to continue in government? “Everyday people die on the East-West Road. “If Orubebe is incompetent as he has shown himself to be, he should be removed. “Nobody voted for Orubebe. “And why is Orubebe so important to the President that he can’t remove him even in the face of his obvious incompetence and several allegation to corruption? “We feel very ashamed and embarrassed. “Orubebe was one of us. “He was attending meetings with us, sleeping in the ground with us, entering night bus with us and we nominated him to be appointed a minister. “We have gone to him and complained to him that we don’t like they way things are going in his ministry and told him that if the President leaves in 2015 without the completion of the East-West Road, we are finished. “And the man keeps telling us there is no money. “When IBB (former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida) was there, there was money. “When Abacha was there, there was money. “When others were there, there was money. “How come the money disappeared when Jonathan got there? “Jonathan and orubebe will account for the death in the East-West Road.” On the face-off between Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dokubo-Asari said there was no need for it. He said that no matter what Jonathan feels, he still remains a beneficiary of Obasanjo’s large heartedness. He said: “First, there was no need for Goodluck Jonathan to disagree with Olusegun Obasanjo. “I don’t like Obasanjo. “I don’t like his face. “I hate him. “But he was instrumental in bringing Goodluck Jonathan to power. “And the greedy people around Jonathan have not managed him enough to the extent that the President and people around him will allow Jonathan to disagree with Obasanjo openly “And if you check, all the people who supported Goodluck Jonathan and fought to bring him to power, have openly disagreed with him. “What was the cause of these disagreements? “These are the questions we want to put to the president. “Some people say Obasanjo is manipulating Goodluck Jonathan, that is why Jonathan is disagreeing with him and we ask: what has Goodluck Jonathan’s government achieved to show that it is a departure from other governments that have existed since 1956? “For us, nothing has changed. “It is still business as usual. “So what are the advice that Obasanjo gave to Jonathan that were so difficult for him to fulfill, that made him decide to fall out with Obasanjo? “Obasanjo was instrumental and manipulated the process that illegally removed Diepreye Alamieyeseigha as governor of Bayelsa State and installed Jonathan as governor, made him vice president, fought for him to become acting president and also fought for him to become president of Nigeria. “Apart from Obasanjo, there are so many people who supported Goodluck Jonathan, some have been pushed out by those who were not there to give him any support, while some others are trapped and they cannot talk. I have a feeling that Fulani man Buhari would have done more for Niger-delta than Jonathan has done so far Jonathan has done nothing for Niger Delta actually. It is getting more and more difficult to support him, the second niger bridge is another issue. Even his allies are denouncing him. What a shame! |

Damn. . . . How am I goin to get a copy now!!! |
SaharaReporters has learned that copies of the much-anticipated and politically controversial autobiography by former President Olusegun Obasanjo have sold out a mere three days after their release on Tuesday. “Baba [President Obasanjo] sold all the copies that were brought in,” an associate of Mr. Obasanjo’s told SaharaReporters. The three-volume book brims with sharp criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, and former Governors Bola Tinubu, Bukola Saraki and James Ibori. Hours before the book was scheduled to be launched last Tuesday, Buruji Kashamu, an associate of Mr. Jonathan, obtained an order from a High Court judge barring the book’s publication. But Mr. Obasanjo proceeded with the launch of the book, stating that the book was already published before the judge gave his order and that the order did not prohibit him from launching the book. Lawyers to Obasanjo have now appealed the ruling of Justice Valentine Ashi at the court of appeal in Abuja. A source close to Mr. Obasanjo told SaharaReporters that agents of the Department of State Security (DSS) had put stumbling blocks in the way of the former president’s efforts to bring in more copies of the book. “The SSS [an alternative name for the DSS} people have told us that they won’t allow more copies of the book into the country,” one source close to Mr. Obasanjo said. Cover of former President Olusegun Obasanjo's book Asked how Mr. Obasanjo had reacted to the impediments placed in his way, his aide said, “Baba expected such behavior. He is just watching them [the government] laughing. SaharaReporters exclusively reported that the content of the book was unsparing of Mr. Jonathan, whom the former president accused of myopic vision, incompetence and weakness. The former presidential decided to go ahead with the publication of the book despite the fact that Mr. Jonathan made a phone call to persuade him to postpone the publication and that the president sent a strong delegation to plead with Mr. Obasanjo. http://saharareporters.com/2014/12/11/obasanjo’s-book-sells-out-security-agents-block-importation-more-copies |

Twin brother Jeromme and Jarelle beat 150,000-1 odds to become dads on the same day at the same hospital by the same midwife after their partners gave birth on Monday November 24th. And they both had baby boys. According to UK Mirror, the twins were initially shocked when told their partners had the same due date of Nov. 26, but neither believed they would both be celebrating on that date. But remarkably, the pair became fathers within a few hours of each other when their sons were born at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton in the early hours of Monday. Incredibly, both babies were born in the same water pool in the same room and were delivered by the same midwife. Jeromme’s partner Tegan Compton, 19, was first to give birth when 8lb 7oz Cameron arrived into the world at 2.04am on Monday morning. Jarrell’s girlfriend Francesca Ashe, 19, then followed suit when she delivered 7lb 11oz Cassen two- and-a-half hours later at 4.34am. Jeromme, who works in a sports shop, said: “We knew that our partners were both given the same due date, but we just never expected the births to be really on the same day. “Tegan and me came in first and little Cameron was born just a few hours later. Then the pool was washed and cleaned, and we handed over to Jarrell and Francesca.” Jarrell, who works for a catering firm, added: “We got here at about two in the morning and we could hear someone’s voice and I said, ‘that’s Tegan’. “Mum was with me so when Tegan gave birth she went over to see her grandson and then a couple of hours later she had another one. It is absolutely amazing that we became fathers of sons on the same day. It is great for everyone and everyone at the hospital was great.” Midwife Barbara Kapoor, who delivered both babies, said: “I have never ever heard of this happening before. It is amazing.” Alex Donohue, from Ladbrokes bookmakers, added: “This is so rare. The odds of it happening are at least 150,000 – 1.” Culled from UK Mirror http://www.informationng.com/2014/11/twins-become-dads-on-the-same-day-at-the-same-hospital.html |

VisaOfficer:Thanks VO, out of curiosity, the beneficiary thinks it'll be proper if its made official than just verbal. Thanks for helping out. |
Hello VO, The sponsor was called to notify her that there's a change in the beneficiary's interview date. Was skeptical about the news, I actually thought information of that nature would be sent through e-mail by the embassy. If yes that the embassy truly contact some people about change in interview date, therefore (1) The date on the interview letter would av been different. Do u suggest the the beneficiary take the old interview latter to the embassy on the new fixed date just like that? Or (2) The beneficiary 'll need new interview letter. If yes, what do u suggest? Thanks. |
VisaOfficer: Just let us know at the interview.
