raj2014: yes, we have a long way to go. the road ahead ahead wud be steep, i think. but persistence is the key.
keep up the great work u r doing oh behalf of those precious kids. take care! Raj, we cannot carry on being persistent with our current knowledge; Nigerians need educating and orientation in understanding these vulnerable people's needs. |

bebe2: I just read ur dairy and found it quiet amusing.
Nigeria is so far back it cant even see d rear light of western countries.
Imagine someone with hearing difficulty has never been assessed for hearing aid. Aint dat shocking?
There is this school for autistics dat pple rant about in Nigeria, its located in ikeja G.R.A.
I was fortunate enough to visit it on one of my trips to nigeria.
What I saw made my heart bleed. About 10 kids sat on a bench wit some adult in front of them.
And the adults where all shouting words to the kid in front of them, one shouting orange, another shouting banana, apple etc and the kids just sat there rocking and flapping badly.
I just went home shaking my head, u being in the profession must realise how damaging dat situation is for those kids. Why were they shouting? The problem with some of these schools - people are operating them just because they went to a teacher's college. The rocking and the flapping gave it away that the actions of their carers might be distressing to them. We have a long way to go. |

Raymondenyi: it is really quite embarrassing and disgusting to see ur likes portraying medical practise in a bad light, for u not to know that 1 of the effects of downs syndrome (trisomy 21) is ligaments laxity, and in turn hyper flexibility of joints in addition to hypotonia...... It will benefit you, when u know nothing, u come out politely to ask and get educated....Instead of showing the world how ignorant you happen to be..... (now u see, I should be the one asking which medical school u graduated from, if at all u attended any).
U should make better use of your books...... or better still, try this
http://www.physio-pedia.com/Musculoskeletal_Effects_Of_Down_Syndrome ...... ( confirm your facts before u comment silly on people's post)
Modified!!!
Just went thru, ur diary, n got to see, u a psychiatric Nurse!!! , Okay!!! No longer surprised, at your response..... pardon Me!!! My likes?? I didn't disagree that people who suffer from various birth defects could be hyper flexible. What I frowned upon was in you referring to them as 'Downs' as it is derogatory. I apologise if you found my comment offensive. I long for the day Nigerians will be able to constructively criticise one another without being abusive. |

DBlackCeazer: DEROGATORY?I DOUBT IT,ANYWAY I APOLOGIZE FOR CALLING YOU OLODO. Professionally, if i refer to people who live with Down's Syndrome as having Downs, I doubt if I'll be able to practice any more or work with vulnerable people in this country. |

I think this young man died of compartment syndrome. It is one of the risks associated with prolonged restraints especially prone restraints. It majorly affects young men.
Bipolar/Manic depression affects more Nigerians than is publicised. |

DBlackCeazer: DOWN SYNDROME,OLODO. DBlackCeazer, I am well aware that it is Down's Syndrome. Someone else referred to it as Downs and that is a very derogatory term. Not once did I verbally abuse you so I'm not sure why you decided to refer to me as Olodo. |

Well done. |
