The team was better in from 2007-8 but was badly coached beaten 2009-2011.

People forget it was the input of Carlos Quieroz that got United over the line in 2008 Semis when he completely told Fergie to park the bus.

Carlos left after that victory and SAF went back to his old ways of attempting to go toe to toe with a team that was significantly better than his team in Europe.

Mourinho would have done a much better job of winning at least one of the finals in 2009 & 2011 by being smart. SAF’s tactics in both finals were laughable.

Dante was so good that Bayern sold him almost immediately while Boateng got to Bayern before Dante nd still stayed almost 5yrs after Dante

Boateng was monstrous in the final - but because of the occasion, he got all the accolades. The way Boateng marshaled Messi for 120 mins should be a subject in football schools across the world.

However, Hummels outperformed him in the group stage and nearly all the KO games but the final. Messi later got his revenge in the CL few years later when he massacred Boateng with leg work.
