Tell us what happened around June - November 2020 when no one was buying Crude and the price fell to below $20/Barrel, did Nigerians buy PMS at a reduced price of #10/Ltr, to reflect the extremely low price of Crude? Why must the price review alwats be upwards, at times at about 60%?

Prior to that in arriving at ₦145, it said the same thing. Now, we are being told that the subsidy that was ended is still being "re-ended" to get to ₦234. The question is when will this cycle end?

What you should be checking is the landing cost of fuel. Once that is higher than pump price or at a level that after adding other margins, it will be higher than pump price, then subsidy creeps in again. Best is to fully deregulate and allow market forces determine the price. Having refineries will help but will not take the issue away completely as those refineries need to operate with profitability in mind as they won't get crude for free or at a much reduced price

Kerosene used to be N50 back in the days of subsidy. When subsidy was removed completely, the price of kerosene went up and never came down. It remained there.

The mistake govt is making is to deregulate and keep fixing the price. It leads to the situation you described. Full deregulation means you hands off pricing and let market forces of demand and supply fix it.

But I understand why govt won't let go just yet - they want to protect the masses from the shocks of continuous price increases if solely left to the market to determine. Hence their subsidising from time to time until such a time we are fully prepared for the market.
