Abuja has January dates open
Good day everyone, please is it safe to go ahead with visa payment seeing that dates are scarce? We're applying for a tourist visa for the family, travel month would've been August, to return in October... What do we do please? Should we reapply for next year August or shift travel date to maybe November? Advice please

Guys please I need a few suggestions here.
A friend of mine went to the US 3 years ago and cos of the nature of her job she was able to stay for 5 months and came back. She had no intentions of staying back cos she’s been to the US couple of times and came back after 1 month of all her trip but this particular trip 3 years ago was her first time staying that long.

She tried re applying but the fact she states 5 months and simply told the VO that she just had free time and decided to stay that long but had no intention of staying back and for that reason she was denied. The VO asked why she stayed for 5 months and she said it was just a long holiday.

Honestly it was just an innocent stay or I’ll call it long holiday and time off and she is finding it very hard to explain why she stayed long because it wasn’t anything serious.

Now she is re applying again and her worry is how she can defend the long 5 months holiday because she has a good job here and has travelled to several other countries. It was just an innocent long holiday and taking time off.

Please any one who can give a good suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Consistency is important. How long did she tell the POE officer she will be staying? For example, even if she was stamped in for 6 months after saying she will stay 2 weeks, the 2 weeks is still on record and is the truth hurdle test. Due to our reputation, there is very little benefit of doubt given to inconsistencies in our narratives. She should recollect what she told the POE officer and figure it out from there.

Well, you’re right.

But the actual situation was...I applied for my Dropbox renewal on August(hoping to visit for a 2 week holiday in Dec), but due to the change in Dropbox processing I was requested to appear for interview about 8 weeks after my application.

Few days before the scheduled interview date for B1, I received an admission decision from the institution I applied to several months back.

At that point I became confused on how to go about it cos I cannot travel with a B1 when the new information means I might proceed to study, and I cannot apply for an F1 when I have a pending B1 interview.

So the right thing(I thought) would be to appear for my B1 interview and apply for F1 separately. I mean, anyone would have though that’s the right thing to do as long as your intentions are not to breach the conditions of your visas in any way.

Well I noted that “visiting” as a reason is not convincing enough for a B1 visa based on my situation, but one thing I’m damn sure about is that I am not ready to lie to anyone for a visa. Asides visiting my sick mum and my fiancée (maybe my siblings too) I am not sure that USA has any other use for me right now.

I quite appreciate your response @BigDawsNet

Bros, the right thing to do at that point would have been to contact the embassy and inform them that you have recently gotten admission and would like to change your application from B to F status visa. Alternatively you should have mentioned at the time of interview that your intentions have changed and you will be applying for an F1 visa as you recently got admission. They probably would not have issued you the B visa, but noted you as being truthful and honest which would be impactful on your next application. At the time of your B1 interview, you withheld information that you already knew and this is as bad as being untruthful in their view.

I asked a question but if i cant get answer , it changes nothing , not even my relocation plans so chill small . Na New bie no will be forming ninja for no be for my type grin

At the risk of being attacked, I will talk. This is another reason why we are all viewed as untruthful, untrustworthy and unrepentant at the embassy. They have no empathy for Nigerians at the embassy because of this kind of attitude. We all know these plans are illegal yet it is posted on a public forum where we know embassy officials visit frequently. When this is pointed out, the OPs response is lackadaisical to say the least. It may be laughable to you but know that people are watching and taking notes and reinforcing their negative stereotypes of Nigerians In entirety.

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to change interview location?

I recently relocated from nigeria and I already filled DS 160 form and gotten a date for a later time this year in Nigeria, however it isnt feasible that I will be coming to Nigeria this year.

I'd appreciate your response.

Thanks

Thanks for your response, we'll reduce to 3weeks if that'll make getting the visa easier, only wanted to use the opportunity to visit some friends and family in some other states, we're being sponsored by my aunt.

Sir, if you will really stay for 2 months, don't tell the embassy or POE that you will stay for 3 weeks. It will hurt your renewals in the future.
You mentioned that you are applying for your entire family and your Aunt is sponsoring, coupled with the intention of 2 months stay. Tread very carefully. Go and read this entire thread from beginning and you will understand why I am issuing this caution.

Fact!

Why will all of you be going on vacation that is being paid for by someone else? This tilts towards financial dependence on another person.
60 days is a lot not because there is not enough to do in 60 days, but are the children not in school? Aren't the adults in the family going to work or business?
If all these years, the family requires a sponsor, then why are the adults in the family willing to be away from work/business for 60days?

Sponsored by aunt or she's writing the Invitation letter?
If she is sponsoring your trip then i think you should wait until you can sponsor your family vacation. Do not jeopardize your future applications. Just hold in for now. Please.

Why are banks/embassy collecting visa fee if there are no appointment date till 2024?

This is just rip off.. and the visa fee expires after one year I believe .

What has banks got to do with this?
You are paying to somebody's account voluntarily.
The banks don't give dates.
They don't care is US Govt runs away sef.

The question should be why are you paying visa fees if there are no dates till 2024?

So you think everyone comes to Nairaland? Everyone comes to gain insight about visa processing on nairaland before applying? And everyone uses agents? They don’t know about 2024 dates!! What they know is they want to visit US and they start the process until they get to the final stage.

Be it the banks or the embassy, it needs to stop until they rectify the dates.

Lol you have no idea what the U.S. immigration law is.

Your aunt does not have any jurisdiction by law to file immigration benefits for you unless she adopts you legally but . . .

You need to chill.

Your angst should be to the embassy. Why should a bank tell it's customers (US Embassy) not to earn income?
Leave the banks out of it.
People can go to anywhere they want to get information, its not the banks business also.
Yes, it is painful for someone to do all of that and get smacked in the face with a 2024 date, but focus the angst to the right quarters.
