Very smart decision from MTN the banks are extremely greedy people, I pray they don't resolve it self if the banks won't beg later.

So a behemoth company making billions in profit from Nigerians should muzzle and kill SMEs out of life/business? (I stated earlier I don't care about the banks). Of course, your financial literacy school did not teach you SMEs are the bedrock of any nation's economy.

I see you claim to be financial literate but does not know MTN Nigeria is not only profitable (with revenues risen to over N100 billion monthly in 2020 with half-year revenues of N638 billion in 2020 as the MTN Nigeria made a 49% growth in data revenues in the second quarter of 2020) but also unaffected by covid19 lockdown as its Nigerian customers guzzled more data in the ensuing Covid19 and EndSars economic shutdown. I will not even go to the dollars repatriation brouhaha (still ongoing if you care to know).

Have you also compared calls and data rates across the market MTN operates in Africa and find out which country pays the highest and most profitable.

To your first question, I live and run a business in Nigeria and with thought-process like yours, then no hope for the common man (woe betides common man if someone like you gets to position of authority someday).

Happy Easter.
The so called SMEs you are crying about are running on Telecoms infrastructure, should the Telecos die for the SMEs to live? It is business and not a charity organisation. Shareholders took risks and invested money in the Telecos, so the management needs to ensure shareholders are making money, same way the banks and SMEs shareholders want to also make profit.
In the markets you are comparing, find out if Telecos there have two Generators per base station running 12 hours each. Find out the power situation there.
Find out if there are arbitrary taxes by the central Government, State Government, local government and even non state actors like Youth associations, community development associations and Agbero.
In summary, the cost of doing business in Nigeria and the exchange rate makes things more expensive here.

Quite interesting to see people support MTN on this, has MTN reduced calls or data rates or any of their services to justify the reduction in commission rate.

What reason(s) has MTN provided to reduce commission arbitrarily whereas other Telcos didn't.

The new platforms they are promoting are just smokescreens, MTN has agenda they are working on to push everyone out of the market. While I am less bothered about the banks, I am for the SMEs (or are you unaware roadside, paper-based and e-recharge commission is also affected).

The same matter is brewing with electricity companies, they keep reducing commission for SMEs whereas the electricity rate keeps going up.

MTN don't want anyone to make money in their space (every unit in MTN boost of cost reduction), whereas same MTN is encroaching other market space i.e selling inverter.

How a South African company plans to kill SMEs and Nigerians are in support baffles me.

They are both criminals but I will choose MTN over the bank any day anytime especially with my recent encounter with first bank.

Is it not madness to allow your customers to be able to transfer money into an account that is dormant and yet for you to give him you made him pay almost 20k after almost 2months just to get back the money and all this is withing the same bank.

I am flabbergasted to say the least. Is it not revenue that ultimately leads to profit for an efficient organisation; or are the figures I mentioned wrong? grin.

Jokes apart, what is the concern of SMEs when a market leader can not play and run its business according to the law of the land they operate making MTN EBITDA bad compared to competitors. So SMEs should be punished for MTN's inefficiency and fines (and bribery)!

A company has responsibilities to different segments, be it, staffers, shareholders, suppliers, society, government; including SMEs especially for a big corporate like MTN or SMEs did not aid their expansion and penetration.
You asked what is the concern of SMEs?? It concerns SMEs and others when the market leader changes strategy and decides to be more efficient. Efficiency is reducing the profit banks make on sale of recharge card from N4 to N2.5 per N100 recharge card sold.
The banks say they won't sell and MTN shifted to Fintechs who are ready to sell at MTN's new price. So what is the issue here? Are the fintechs not also SMEs? One door close, another door open ooh. E no dey hard

Are the SMEs not paying for the service or is it free?

A company with 49% increase in revenue YoY making over N100 billion revenue a month is dying?

Can you tell us how many companies in Nigeria is not faced with all the challenges you aforementioned. Don't banks, corporate organisations run 3-4 generators, don't SMEs pay multiple taxes too! Even hawkers, cart-pushers are extorted by area boys!

But tell me how many companies get Forex at low rate in Nigeria and if MTN is not one of them.

Your excuses are lame sir, MTN should operate ethically and according to the law. If other Telcos are profitable, what is stopping the widely acclaimed market leader (lest I forget, it's inefficiency!).

When you are discussing Financials of a company, state it as it is. Don't try to mislead people or embellish the facts.
You wrote this "A company with 49% increase in revenue YoY", this is different from "49% increase in data revenue in Q4 2020".
The company is not making 100bn a month because revenue of 100bn a month is different from profit of 100bn a month. That is why you should stop looking at revenue and look at other indicators like EBITDA which tells a better story than the story revenue tells!

commercial banks will soon go into extinction. Network service providers are already operating like banks. a time will come when sim cards will serve as ATM. All payments would be strictly online and USSD. Private companies would get license to have ATM machines, so there would be ATM machines on every street. Then bank Halls would be converted to Warehouses

How will it be resolved? I am talking of money unaccounted for.

You are right. I wasn't aware of the misunderstanding between the banks and MTN but I noticed that I could not subscribe for data using UBA and GTB platform. I then decided to use MTN website. To my utmost surprise GTB debited me without me being credited with my data. This is when I began to investigate. Till now my data has not been credited to me and money is hanging somewhere i don't know.

Talking about debts, has your beloved MTN paid a dime yet of the $5bn fine by NCC? Or they managed to maneuver? They're criminals, they've done nothing but take advantage of subscribers. When was the last time you got value for your money from mtn? Trying not to sound biased, but like their compatriot, Shoprite, i feel they should just pack up and leave.

Defending MTN doesn't make them beloved to me.

It's common sense that the banks are the ones owing here.

Also, MTN has paid their debts and met to the agreed terms of listing the company as a plc on the Nigerian stock exchange.

I doubt you will even know this sef.

Sebi, the banks have finally gone to beg (indirectly)? Mtcchwww
