I am utterly disgusted with this one-sided story. This is revisionism at work. The islamic North provoked the entire region by introducing sharia in a secular nation. Due to the widespread uproar against that decision by some Northern governors, they found company in the Ulamas, the Emirs and the jobless youths or almajiris. They successfully mixed politics with religion, by using the militant youths (which later became Boko Haram) against their perceived political opponents till the monster could no longer be tamed. Regardless of what one white witch wants us to believe, have they not been killing and violating rights Christians (southerners) in the North since they introduced Sharia? The man who wrote that glowing tribute on Boko Haram ((Tilde) should be arrested by security forces. He seems to know more than what he is saying. Infact, he is a collaborator. The islamic North is full of religious zealots and fundamentalists (like Lamido Sanusi) who will not hesitate to terminate the lives of those opposed to their bigotry. |

Nobody is saying BH isnt a terrorist organisation but there is always 2 sides to the story. Story says 1. Police kill BH at funeral, 2. BH retaliates, sacks police station and kills policemen and some collateral damage, 3. police go round community where BH is suspected to be based long after militants must have left, pick up random men and boys and summarily execute them on camera, 4. BH step up game and cause maximum damage, 5. Police repeat 3 above. The cycle of violence continues. Are both the police/Army and BH not terrorists? I find it hard that some people can not just see beyond this North/south, christian/muslim issue and critisize wehat the police/army have done. |

Unless Our security forces eliminate all living members and offspring of Boko haram, Govt must pursue sincerely the dialogue option because the situation is deep rooted. Skimming the surface would be to kill a few of them. No one never knows how much sympathy and followership they have recieved over the years, My 5cents |

many of the above responses are a true reflection of what is wrong with Nigeria. maybe if I wasnt a Muslim(God forbid), you would think differently of my aim. the next time a public office is for grabs, the same people as this would start talking ethnic and religious sentiment. If what you want to believe is a NL boko haram, spearheaded by me, your business. Just the same way Jonathan is boko haram, CIA is boko haram and northern elites are boko haram. If you cant open your eyes to analyse all the angles to this crisis, you would be getting it wrong and nothing would be solved. Once again, I did not write it. I copied and pasted it. |

nasty45:did u read the main post at all and my follow up comments, or is it a problem of comprehension u are having? I may not be able to help you understand beyond what you do already. But once again, the killings are not justified and the above shows government needs to dialogue with them and if the above story is true, they were first, victims and deserve to be listened to, at least for the sake of innocent Nigerians. |

There are always two sides to a story; Boko Haram justifies their actions by claiming the high-handedness of security on their members pushed them to the edge. The truth is that the situation could have been handled much better by the security agencies. Violence begets violence. This is how the Jos story degenerated, one group attacks and the other retaliates till we have a situation that we can not control. No one is saying the group has not gone beyond the limits. If you do not know the roots of a problem, how can you find a solution? Their grievances were borne out of a sense of injustice. Their methods of expressing their grievances are distasteful but at least we have an understanding of how it all began. The war against the group will not be won by guns alone, somehow there has to be some kind of dialogue as well. |

Suddenly its the Police fault BH is going after innocent Nigerians. There is no excuse, no justification under any religious or moral code for BH"s act no matter how some people try to paint the story. Those dead people are not statistics they are people like you and me and just cause it hasn't gotten to your doors yet does not mean it won't eventually if it is not curtailed. So while you are feeling safe and gathering sympathy votes for BH think if that channels staff was your brother how would you feel? If any of those people killed was a family member how would you feel sympathetic or would you like justice? BH's demand keep changing one time its islamization of the North, another time it's Kano state Governor has not paid them, next they are exacting revenge on only police officers and JTF, how they mistook a church for a police station beats me. Next they are fighting Jihad. What will the dialogue be based on if there is one since BH itself cant really tell what they want? They will soon come up with something new they always do. |

Back in the day, the CIA is suspected by many today to have created alQaeda to keep the Bush administration in office after it was claimed he never actually won the elections to his first term in office. True enough, alQaeda worked more for the administration's office than anything else. Whenever the US had economic woes or lost troops in Iraq, rather than celebrating the losses of their "enemies", alQaeda would do a strange thing - they would instead go out and bomb Iraqis in a market place for no good reason. What, they had so many bombs they didn't know what to do with them? I would have thought explosives and ammunition would be too expensive to waste on such targets, The Mubarak regime tried to quell anti-government protests by attacking protesters then we had news of churches being bombed. That failed because it led to muslim and christian unity which still brought the regime down. To cover their tracks, Mubarak's secret services and police went on to burn down their own offices and secret documents (notably those related to the "war on terror" .Oh, where was Mubarak getting help from - US allies (e.g. CIA): http://leaksource./2011/02/06/brainwashing-and-terror-versus-the-egypt-people/ http://sarthanapalos./2011/02/02/mubarak-state-sponsored-terrorism-against-his-people/ Today economic woes and failing military power has the US and much of Europe on a downward trend to ruin. One way to sustain themselves a little longer is through Africa because that's where there still exists a vast majority of raw resources vital for feeding rich countries of the world so they can maintain their lifestyles. With China's increasing role in Africa, however, offering fair enough services and technology in exchange for resources, the business of getting free stuff from African leaders then not paying, by claiming their countries owed huge debts to be settled this way, just got harder. So it seems, the bullying military tactics are being employed. That way with Africans being trick into a phoney war on terror, they'd have to give up resources in exchange for perceived security from the 'experts'. Think about it, the value of the dollar is going down around the world, what currency do governments and militants use in purchasing arms and ammunition (which are not cheap)? Dollars. You can say oh that's fine weapons are coming from Libya. Where did Libya get them from, what did the Libyans use to pay for them and who destroyed the Libyan security system to get these weapons flowing out to more customers? Daily Trading Analysis - Weakness in US dollar continues: http://www.fxstreet.com/fundamental/analysis-reports/daily-trading-analysis-/2012/01/26/07/ [flash=400,300] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1GtcrVOYDw[/flash] Now what do we see in Nigeria? There's this urgent need to create a group nicknamed boko haram and use it in the news media and politics to create as much unease as possible until the US and other come back to the rescue in a new colonial gesture. If the group is said to be linked to alQaeda, then it is another way of telling you you it is linked to the CIA (and their tactics already match those of staged attacks for the media killing innocents in the process - destroy public infrastructure to reduce development in an area, kill innocents, assassinate learned people or critics, toy with the media). Given their operations and numerous escapes, it is beginning to look like members of this group are being given authority to act with orders from up above somewhere prevent the Nigerian security services and army from hindering their activities. It makes very little sense for the president of a country to be making statements to the international press about links of his government to militants then again ask for them to identify themselves for dialogue. Your ex-president Obasanjo seems to have better security and information to be able to travel and meet with members of the group. It seems there was an attempt to use the issue to divide Nigerians according to region or religion (aiming for conflicts like those in South Sudan today, a smaller region with more weapons flowing into it - plus it has oil, wooohooo) but it backfired with protest uniting them instead. This appears to have changed the strategy towards Nigeria and boko haram's demands had to be adjusted accordingly. The media is used to control people as well, even today an extremely large number of people outside Nigeria have absolutely no clue about protests earlier this month in Nigeria because news outlets like the BBC for instance refused to cover the protests in international news (they only made a few references to it afterwards and will probably proceed to lecture you on why it "failed" to them). However, they are more than ready to dedicate top headlines to boko haram attacks and YouTube videos. What happened with the UN and the likes of Hilary Clinton and William Hague going on about governments respecting protesters human rights and ensuring people have basic amenities? They were quiet about Nigeria protests and only "condemn" boko haram attacks. Ask me, they know who boko haram are because they probably back them. http://www.abusites.com/news/read/index.php?art=179 http://leadership.ng/nga/articles/12710/2012/01/09/protest_muslim_youths_guard_churches.html [flash=500,400] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dhOi46xX-s[/flash] Nigerians, however, seem to be slowly breaking out of the colonial mentality their ancestors were brought up with despite their constant bickering. What they need to focus on now is developing their countries because if you sit back and wait for the Americans or anyone else to do your work for you, you will be left with more explosions (many exaggerated to bombs in the news) trying to destroy what you already have in the name of terrorism and the need to pay for outside security. Your enemies will do their best against you so you have to do your best for yourselves now. If all the boko haraming doesn't break you, your president has to beware because he has given up his security and life to the CIA/Mossad and if they decide he is no longer of any use to them or a security threat, (Saddam, Gaddafi, Mubarak and Saleh of Yemen used to be their friends as well remember?). Pray for the best. |

Is there really room for dialogue? Boko Haram is a perverted blood-sucking demon that cannot be exorcised with round table discussions. The problems bite harder than that. They have gone too far down the road to hell. Besides there are many permutations to this. If it was a northerner in power, it would have Niger-Deltan millitants doing the same thing, creating confusion in the country. Though obviously with a lesser body count. |

tbaba1234:Their problems were with the police and not the people. If they attacked the police, government infrastructure and officials alone, though this is still not acceptable , then at least the people can have a basis for understanding. But the leader of Boko Haram himself orchestrated massacres of non-muslims at the intial stages of their madness. After that , even Muslims were not spared. Are you seriously trying to justify their killing of innocent people, who are going about their day to day business , oblivious to the dangerous sect that lurks around the corner with their diabolical intentions ![]() There is no discussion or dialogue with Terrorists, that was the only one Geroge Bush got right !! For crying out loud, these terrorists ( because that is what they are ) even disemboweled preganant women, killed children and mowed down members of a town meeting. Were these guys in anyway connected to the police or military ![]() To make matters worse, they shout God is great when perpetuating these wicked actions, you tell me, what God are they worshiping ![]() God is great , and slam slam , 12 children dead, God is great and ratatatatata 30 traders dead, God is great Kaboom !! 200 dead, what God do they worship ![]() These guys are just Satan's plaything, wicked souls , selfish devils who need urgent help. |

@nanidee However, the point I am trying to make is this: had the group cited their grievances with the Nigerian govt, and the steps tĦey planned to take, iτ̅ might have been a different ball game, and tĦey might have wipped up sentiments by a large number of people. .This is a very important concern but you seemed to have skipped some paragraphs in your reading of the posting. The sect leader wrote series of letter to the Borno state government and the Borno commissioner of police. He called for the compensation of the family of victims killed extrajudiciously by the police during the funeral procession. [b]He followed his letter with practical visits to the police but all appeal fell on deaf ears. He then called severally to the IG of police and the Yaradua administration to intervene but to date, nothing was done to the culprits.[/b]He began to send threat to the government and the police. He castigated the Yara’ dua government in an out and called Yaradua an oppressor and declared the government as unjust. For those Muslim leaders and scholar who opposed his threat against the government, he declared them as hypocrite and even declared some as unbelievers. He and his member began to arm themselves |

deols:And deols trust me , I believe you. All we are saying is this, if you have a problem with the military and police , and you go on a rampgage with only 30 police and soilders dead , but over 870 INNOCENT civilians mowed down, how can you have a dialogue with such people. Families have lost their bread winners, children have been made orphans, parents have no more children , many victims are disabled for life, common you tell me, we should repay these people with Dialogue. And we are talking here about BOTH the Muslim and Christian DEAD , all innocent people. Is this a Joke. ![]() If I was president , I will send 20,000 soilders to cordon of all the affected states and hunt from house to house for these people. What they need is Punishment, that is why we have a government. |

@frosbel Their problems where with the police and not the people. You are are absolutely right frosbel, but problems cannot be solved by emotions but by taking practical decisions that can bring a lasting if not permanent solutions. Whether dialogue is more likely to bring permanent solution than total all out war is for the government to decide. I initially hated Mandela for agreeing to share government with the whites in SA but I have learnt so much from the wisdom of our beloved Madiba. I am not sure if Bush has solved the problem of terrorism by his no negotion stand. |

the heart of man is desperately wicked ! any society who does not see anything wrong in shedding human blood is cursed already and will never, and i repeat will never see the favour of god.nigeria is already a cursed land because we see nothing wrong in shedding human blood which is very sacred before god. until we return back to god and ask for forgiveness and repent of our evil ways, evil will never depart from this already cursed land. we all are guilty.the pastors, the imams, presidents, governors, the military, the police and including you and i we all are guilty of this evil.you sit there blaming jonathan and his cabinet forgetting that god will always give a country leaders it deserve. a good tree will never produce a bad fruit. |

nagoma:Thank you !! But this is not an emotional thing firstly. Secondly ,to compare this Boko Haram killing spree to the ANC fight for freedom is the most unbelievable thing I have heard so far in 2012. The ANC targeted the South African soilders and police. They were not killing innocent people. Dialgue was possible because Mandela chose to follow the path of peace, imagine what would have happened , if Mandela had a Boko Haram mentality with their silly list of demands, such as Sharia for the entire North and destruction of all churches. The government will never learn. Violence does not and will not stop violence. When the agitation of MEND started in Niger Delta, it was peaceful and sensible. But the government chose to respond by killing their leader and tried to exterminate the then "peaceful" group with Violence. (remember ODI) They regrouped and targeted innocent people till the government "dialogue" with them and there came peace. Same thing happened with OPC, government went out ruthless; the police and soldiers as usual their tool. What stopped the menace of OPC? Dialogue. The government has gone the same route with violence and injustice again; even pastors are "releasing insanity" on them. Cant we just learn that two wrong don't make a right and dialogue with these people, listen to their grievances and stop the needless killing on both sides. |

@deols yusuf was preaching against western ideals, alcholism, semi naked dressing etc which means he was preaching "hate" against the young christian graduate who after a hard days work at the office changes to his comfortable jeans and polo top relaxes at a cool spot for a bottle of beer while transacting some more business on his "black berry". if at all you have lived in northern nigeria you would know that such preaching ends up being the genesis of religious crisis! yar'adua knowing pretty well what such hate preaching does to the highly uneducated muslim youths responded with a heavy hand (which i must add i fully support) wasn't it a cartoon in far away netherlands that caused mayhem in nigeria? talkless of the "hate" preaching yusuf was spreading. if yusuf believed things were wrong with "western education" he should have kept that with his god, self and family and allowed the rest of us some breathing space! |
