May God ease your affairs,

Try as much as possible to check on your lenders, it will give them confidence that you will pay them back when things get back to normal for you.

Gave a 100k late last year. Decided to just forgo and all. It was clear nothing was about to come out of my efforts to collect.

Lessons learned though.

Borrowed one guy money to pay back problem. I just looked for old plastic dolls, palm wine small calabash, native chalks, some leaves, red pieces, mirror, and my neice red water color... I took them to a stream behind my house, i printed his pictures and family pic from fb... Put them there, started doing yeye incantation and some strong benin words. I sent him the video... It didn't take him 10 minutes to send me my money after seriously begging me to even collect it. The mother that was always covering for him was the first to call to beg

I have a terrible history with debtors. Let me find a way to summarise that.
1. I lent a brother 300k he paid only 80k and that was all.
2. I lent another brother 800k and he paid back 570k.
3. I lent yet another 1m he never returned even a kobo for over 3 years now. I have written the debt off. I have suspended borrowing brothers because they assume that I have much but it is not so. I'm just a contented person.

4. I lent two friends 9k and 5k respectively and they never paid back but never borrowed again.
5. I lent someone 455k and he paid me in piece meals (100k, 30k, 50k, 80k etc) in 4 months to the extent that I couldn't figure out what I did with the money. After I almost had issue with him.
6. A neighbour borrowed 99k and he paid after 3 months.
7. I lent another casual friend 99k for over 3 months he has not paid.

8. The one that pained me most is someone I barely knew well who called me and begged that he was in trouble that I should lend him 50k that by Monday (in 2 days time) he would pay back. I was not comfortable but I was thinking that he could also be of help one day. I transferred the amount to him.
To cut the story shot, he refused to pick my calls after few weeks. 5 months later, he was still not picking my calls. If I called with a strange number he would pick and once he heard my voice he would drop. I was over a thousand kilometres away from him. So it was almost impossible for me to travel to his place. Next thing I did was that I approached a court for a court order which I obtained against his account details.
Finally, I got my money reversed from his account but not until I spent 12k on the court process. He never called me even when he got the court notification till date.

Though, there are some requests that if u have it would be difficult to decline but I will be cautious going forward.

Yeah but I did not say anything relating to death tho. Btw the law doesn't prohibit the use of traditional mediums. My goal was to collect the 300k he was owing me

I'm young guy struggling to see ends meet. That was how this family man (laundry man) came begging for urgent 3k to pay back in few days. Of course I gave him. He has never asked me for anything before.
Without paying the first, he came again for another urgent 3k. I still give him since business wasn't as usual, even though I was reluctant. 2 days later he came again like magic for another urgent 3k.. I told him I don't have.
And that was 8months ago and counting.
Stories everyday.

Okay so this guy called me up begging me to pls lend him money , he was a close friend so I decided to help him out , I gave him the 50k he requested and he promised to pay back month end..

Normally I would have dashed him the whole money but at the time I borrowed him I was broke and I borrowed to save him and also as a way to keep me from spending the money because that was like my last card ..

Month end reach and this guy did not call or text , after a week I called him and he told me to forget the money now , " u be big boy now "... I told him I'm broke and the money is my last hope , next tin I know this guy hangs up on me..

I was mad ehn.. I called him again and he didn't pick , he later blocked my line on phone and WhatsApp ... I was pissed but I remain calm , he taught me a bitter lesson.... But God will have it ,after about 3 months he did a business deal with a friend of mine ,..

The guy then gave me his own share cos his number was not going through at that time , so the guy gave me the cash to pass it to him , the cash was 120k.
.
since he had block me I couldn't call him , by the time he got to know that his money was with me he almost ran mad.. he couldn't drag it.. he begged and begged and begged and ask people to beg me .. I accepted his plea but that was after I removed 70k.....

Prison? spiritual matters are not handle in court and with a good lawyer you can't even be arrested because there is no physical contact.

I have over 3 million in bad debts to people who come to you meek with their heads bowed but time to pay back and they run rings around you and hurl insults.

My philosophy is that they aren’t repaying your good deed with evil rather all they have done is sow a bad seed.

Lent a cab guy money for base oil business; next thing he says he brother said he shouldn’t borrow money for that. Ngwa, return the money na... insults. Calling me a rat with no education. Telling me how successful he is as a cab driver and how useless I was as a consultant. 4 years later, I set up a sting using a girl to call him to pick her up from my work premises. He was sitting in the cab when I came with two of my drivers and seized his car from him. He ran like a bitch to the police and came with a Hilux filled with 4 of them. I plainly told them this was a civil matter and they had no business in it. Long story short, we went to the police station, he signed a payment agreement, paid once and ran away again with his car. I forgot about him

I don’t know is it a human trait or a thing with Nigerians but 6 out of 10 will disappoint you!

Update: wahala for who borrow dead body money. A guy I have know for years had been troubling me for a car for taxi. Gave him 300k on Tuesday last week. He promised to pay back 75k every month starting from next month. His daughter just texted me that he has died yesterday. Let’s now make that over 3.3 million

Hahahahaha, your writings cracked my ribs nigga. My experience is similar to yours, only that he is a family man. Quiet understandable but he still showed me paper before I recovered some part of my money.
I was doing business in school, very successfully until the devil prepared NYSC scheme calls, I was confused, didn't know who to manage my store for me since I was posted to a far away state. I met this married man friend of mine whom I had donated blood for his sick daughter in the past cos he had no money to buy blood. Long story short, I gave him my shop to manage, he requested I borrow him 50k (year 2016) to used to invest in addition to what was already in d shop, I did. Baba promised to pay back in a month, 6 months down I didnt get a kobo, he won't pick my calls, later told d wife to do same. My God, people can be ungrateful o
I heard from a neighbor who has a shop close to mine that he bought a brand new bike six weeks after I left for nysc, I took excuse from my ppa, came down baba refused to let me know his house, him and his wife were using me to play ball. They had recolated to a better apartment inside town so he warned his wife never to disclose their new place to me, someone whose trading in my shop with my goods, after a week I was able to locate one of his elder brother inside town, went there and explained everything to him. His elder brother and his wife almost cried for me, they summoned him, after much scolding he reluctantly paid 47k to me on d spot. After I collected the keys to my shop, and locked it up, his wife was begging me I refused to give them back d keys. Till today I never got d balance, they don't call me at all. Hmmmm human beings eeh

Some debtors are so shameless that they will be owing you money, 'll be telling u stories but at d same time, they are busy buying personal properties, knowing fully well they are owing someone money somewhere.

Owing pple money is not a crime, anybody can be in that situation, the problem is even if you don't have to pay back show your lender that you genuinely don't have. I have pple owing me and just pretend like nothing. Worst still, they just conclude that you're a big boy and don't need the money. I hate that thing.

I am paying back gradually.

Time to pay (two weeks that he promised) he refused then I quickly went the Local Yoruba way. I told him that if he doesn't pay that money in the the next one week, he won't reap the fruit of his labour on ALL his children. Sharp sharp the idiot sent my money same day.

As law abiding citizens that all of us @ are.
We will go the gentle and legal way with the below steps.

First of all,
The person who owes you money has broken his/her word
Send a gentle reminder, (Letter, Sms etc)
Discuss or negotiate terms of payment with the debtor. Review your agreement if there is one.
Send a monetary demand letter.
Consider using a debt collection firm.
Again, Remind Them About the Debt.
If all else fails, Get your lawyer to write a letter to him/her.
Make Sure the Lawyer's Letter Goes Out.
Go to Court.

Then relax and watch God fight your battle for you. wink
