Nigerian Military Shells ISWAP/Boko Haram Fighters in Guntrucks, Lose Two Soldiers in Damasak

Two young Nigerian soldiers who attempted to capture a Boko Haram informant were killed by terrorists who ambushed them just as the aircraft of the Nigerian Airforce ( NAF) eliminated scores of ISWAP Boko Haram in five guntrucks in Damasak, Borno State.

An intelligence officer told PRNigeria that the young soldiers were killed when they wanted to apprehend a man suspected to be a spy for terrorists.

“The young soldiers suspected the unarmed man who were seen leading terrorists to some warehouses.

“Suspecting that the man was on a mission, rather than shooting him, the soldiers ran after him so that he could be caught alive. Unknown to them terrorists on an ambush with guntrucks opened fire on the two soldiers and the informant.

“Luckily enough, ground troops with air support by NAF aircraft arrived timely enough to engage the gunmen, killing scores of the fighters and destroyed their five guntrucks.

“Some other terrorists were hits close to the perimeter fencing, while others were neutrialised while hiding in the blue roof compound.

“The general security situation within Damasak Town is relatively calm but unpredictable,” the officer said.

Terrorists attacked Damasak town on Saturday after gaining access into the town by maneuvering their way at checking points manned by Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) troops at the west point.

They carted away an Ambulance and a Jeep. They burnt homes of Police DPO, traditional ruler and NRC residents within Damasak town.

They also looted humanitarian offices and slaughtered two unidentified men.

PRNigeria also learnt that the terrorists had camped at Kareto, Jilli, and Bamma Bukar Lawanti in Magumeri LGA for some days before the attack.

This is one of the reason Kanu floated ESN and many people supported him after the failure of the South East governors to float one when people where clamouring for something similar to Amotekun. That militia herdsmen has taken over some of the major highways in the region and other parts of the country is no longer news, like I said earlier Kanu uses the real issues on ground to manipulate the masses to buy his ideology, tackle most of those issues and see his base wither over time, not every issue requires force as you will only be playing into the hands of your adversaries. Counter an ideology with a superior ideology, Politicians keep creating problems which the military can't solve.
When we point out these things paid political job men will swing into action denying the obvious telling you that there are no militia Herdsmen in Imo, Anambra, Abia meanwhile these jobbers are sitting in their cages in Lagos armed with their free data(no thanks to Glo yakata bonus) to spew trash all because of their perpetual servitude to politicians that care less about them.
Thank God the Southeast leaders have woken up from their slumber with EbubeAgu, though this was done out of immense pressure & the probability of them doing their job without political interference is unknown but it's a good place to start atleast with this move ESN most likely will be subsumed and their activities properly regulated by the authorities.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has confirmed an attack on its facility in Damasak, Borno State, on Saturday.

The attack will force the UN to reduce its humanitarian operations in the area

I am deeply concerned about recurrent reports of violent attacks by non-state armed groups putting the lives of civilians under risks. Last night and through the morning, a violent attack in Damasak town, in Borno State, was reported with three international aid partners’ facilities directly targeted, set ablaze, and sustained damage. I continue to be concerned about the safety and security of civilians and humanitarian workers.

I strongly condemn the attack, as humanitarian aid operations and facilities are the lifeline for people affected by violence and conflict in north-east Nigeria who are dependent on assistance to survive. Humanitarian operations in Damasak will be reduced due to the violent attack, which will affect the support to 8,800 internally displaced people and 76,000 people in the host community receiving humanitarian assistance and protection there.

Civilians and aid workers, their facilities and assets should never be a target. They must always be protected and respected. I call on armed parties to observe and commit to international humanitarian law and human rights law, and ensure the protection of civilians, humanitarian property, and personnel.

I also appeal to our generous donors and stakeholders for support in funding the nine humanitarian hubs and to the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), as these are vital enablers of the humanitarian operations in north-east Nigeria. I also appeal to donors to urgently continue their support for the Humanitarian Response Plan for north-east Nigeria in order to provide lifesaving and life sustaining support to some 6.4 million displaced people and host communities affected by the humanitarian crisis there.

Can you beat this?? This morning, I have thoughts to why the Nigerian security agencies where having a hard time responding to the several calls against herdsmen, not one operation has been launched against these unfortunate humans...but at last we are getting some clarity.

There is disquiet in the land at the weekend following an allegation that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Alhaji Isa Ali Ibrahim, also known as Sheikh Pantami, has fallen on the watch list of the America’s Intelligence Service.

Ibrahim, also the Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Sharia Council in Nigeria and a former student of Salafist ideologies, was trained in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East with other top Islamic jihadists.

Before his appointment as a minister, Ibrahim was a known Islamic preacher and held what was termed ‘dangerous views’ against the American government with allegiance to Al-Qaeda.

According to a report, the minister was said to be a very close confidant of the late Mohammed Yusuf, the killed leader of Boko Haram with whom he allegedly shared jihadist doctrines.

According to Western Intelligence, the minister had ties with Abu Quatada al Falasimi and other Al-Qaeda leaders that he revered and spoke glowingly of in several of his videos on YouTube.

In one of his narratives, Ibrahim had eulogised Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi as a great leader, who joined Al-Qaeda group after emigrating to Afghanistan at the end of the September 11, 2001 terror attack on the World Trade Centre in America.

This is what he wrote about Abu Musab: “Under the Osama’s leadership, he became the unit commander of army of AlQaeda with the support of the Commander of the loyal Maula Umar (Taliban leader).

The solution to all this nonsense is to find a way to cut off most part of the north west and north east from Nigeria. Most of this people support this terrorist group. It's because of this armed Fulani group that ethnic militias are springing up in almost every part of the country.

I don't buy this. I personally don't see how the civilians were left with much of a choice if ISWA had control of the town for those hours and could do anything they wanted. Given what ISWAP has done in the past, what do you think would happen to them if the refused to cooperate while being held at gun point. Things aren't that simple abeg.

Additionally, all it would take was one spy or informant who's also part of the group to give them all the information they needed.

A 30-year-old woman, Mrs Joy Ihunwo, who was allegedly brutalised by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command, has said she lost her pregnancy after the incident and is calling for justice to be served.

The woman was arrested alongside her husband, who is the head of a vigilante group in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt following a petition against him over alleged illegal activities by his group.

Joy, while speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt on Sunday, said she had gone for a pelvic scan at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the results showed that she had lost the pregnancy.

The scan result dated April 10, 2021 was sighted by our correspondent and Joy called on the human rights community and Nigerians to assist her to get justice.

Narrating her ordeal, Joy stated that she was at home on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, when policemen from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit came looking for her husband, who is the Chief Security Officer of the Rumu-Elechi community in Mile Three, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

She said despite arresting her husband, Mr Godstime Ihunwo, and about seven of his vigilante members, some of the cops broke into their apartment, allegedly beat her with the butt of their guns and took her away to their office alongside her husband and his and the vigilante members.

She added, “Now, the pregnancy I was carrying when they broke into our home and assaulted me has disappeared. I was crying and begging them to leave me that I was pregnant. They called me a thief and said I would give birth to a premature child.

“I was crying and asking them why they were treating a pregnant woman that way. One of them pushed me; another slapped me and pushed me out of the door, forced me inside their car and said I was an armed robber, and they took me to their office. While we were at their office, I told them that the pregnancy was disturbing me; they said I was crying for nothing and that I would give birth prematurely there.

“Later that evening, they took me in their vehicles back to the house. When we got there, the door was locked. They broke the padlock, opened the gate and entered our house. They ransacked the house, stole my phones and N150,000. They also stole the money that husband wanted to use to pay his boys.

“They even took phone chargers, MP3 music players and wrappers. I am calling on female lawyers and human rights activists to come and help me. Look at the scan result. Imagine a pregnant woman losing her baby because of Nigeria police.”

Meanwhile, a lawyer with the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Jane James, has called on the police authority to carry out a thorough investigation into the complaints of the victim.

James stated, “It was because of the alleged brutality on her that she lost the pregnancy. Her husband was the one they were looking for and in the process, they arrested her. It is not as if they didn’t see her husband.

“They arrested her along with her husband even when her name was not on the petition. Now, she has lost her baby as the scan result showed. It was a battery as a matter of fact.

“So, we are calling on the police authority that there should be thorough investigation of all the police officers connected with the incident. We want justice not just served, but to be seen to have been served.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said, “Let her (Joy) make a formal report and the Commissioner of Police will look into it accordingly.”

If hundreds of armed terrorists were to enter your apartment in the dead of night to meet you and your family with the fact that you know no one's ever coming to help you. Now the terrorist ask you a simple question, "where is your neighbour, take us to his room". Tell me, would you form hard guy and be a hero or comply? The crux of this issue is NA's inability to protect civilian targets, leaving the civilians do what they can to save their lives, including working with an enemy you know could kill you at the slightest disobedience.

Its easy for us to judge the actions of people if we're not in their shoes.

A mother of three, identified simply as Mama Esther, has been hospitalised after she slumped when her shop was demolished by officials of the Police Officers’ Wives Association.

It was gathered that POWA had given the tenants in its market at Pedro in the Somolu area of Lagos State a two-week notice to vacate the premises for demolition.

Our correspondent learnt that the demolition was to pave way for the construction of an ultra-modern market at the site by a developer.

However, at the expiration of the two-week notice on Thursday, April 8, 2021, shops in the market were demolished.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Mama Esther slumped when she got to the market and saw the wreckage of her shop and goods.

One of the traders in the market, Dupe Audu, said all entreaties to extend the vacation notice fell on deaf ears of POWA officials as they threatened to ensure the transfer of their husbands to the North-East if they refused to vacate the market.

She said, “We were surprised to see the POWA officials in the market when they came to give us the notice. They went around the market and when they came back to address us, they said we should all vacate our shops, because they wanted to rebuild the market.

“When we asked them to give us time to get a better place, we were told to leave within two weeks or our goods would be thrown out and the shops would be demolished on our heads. We thought it was a joke. We were also asked to pay N700,000 each if we wanted to get our shops back after the market had been rebuilt.

“We were still looking for space when they came to the market and started removing the roofs and demolishing shops; they also threatened policemen’s wives, who were in the market, that if they didn’t vacate their shops, their husbands would be transferred to Maiduguri and other states in the North-East.”

Another trader, Zainab Busari, who alleged that they were not given written notice, said the POWA officials were accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer of the Pedro Police Station.

She stated, “When the POWA officials stormed the market on the day, it was like a war; everybody was running helter-skelter. A few minutes later, we saw some people removing the roofs and pulling down the shops; some traders’ goods were thrown on the road.

“We were not given an official notice of two weeks; we were just told verbally that they were coming back in two weeks and when they eventually arrived, the Divisional Police Officer of the Pedro Police Station accompanied the POWA officials when they were carrying out the demolition. We are not saying we are not leaving the market, but they should give us more time to get a better place.

“One of the traders, whose shop was demolished with her goods inside, was rushed to hospital after she slumped. They should have mercy on us, because that’s where we make our livelihoods and support our husbands.”

Another trader, Taiwo Olushoga, who lamented the demolition of the market, noted that it was in a perfect condition before the demolition.

She said, “I have been in the market for years; the shops are in good shape; they are not in distress, so why the demolition? We are all Nigerians, we should have sympathy for each other; they should give us time to organise ourselves even if they want to pull the market down.

“Some of us are widows, our husbands served the country meritoriously; what we are selling here is to assist our husbands at home. We were also told to pay N700,000 if we wanted to get the shops back after they had rebuilt the market, but where do they expect me to get the money from? I can’t afford such an amount now.”

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the command was not aware of the demolition and urged our correspondent to contact the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.

Mba, however, said he was not aware of the matter but promised to find out exactly what happened and get back to our correspondent.

He said, “I don’t deal with the day-to-day activities of POWA; it is a non-governmental organisation properly registered, but when I’m properly briefed, I can speak on issues concerning them, but now, I don’t have the information; it is news to me and as a matter of fact, I am hearing of it for the first time as you’re speaking to me.

“I will try to find out exactly what has happened and once I have my facts, I will speak to you.”

TROOPS REPEL BOKO HARAM INCURSION INTO DAMASAK ……NEUTRALISED 7 TERRORISTS IN ANOTHER FRONTIER
LIKE
Nigerian Army troops supported by Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) have thwarted Boko Haram terrorists’ incursion into Damasak the Headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State on 10 April 2021. The gallant troops engaged the terrorists with superior fire power both from the air and on the ground which compelled them to withdraw in disarray with several men and equipment casualty. Sadly, 2 gallant soldiers have paid the supreme price while one officer and 2 soldiers were injured. The injured are currently recuperating at a military hospital in Maiduguri.

Similarly, troops of Sector 1, OPLD on picketing duty along road Ngwom – Mafa to Maiduguri on Sunday, 11 April, 2021 decisively neutralised 7 members of the Boko Haram Terrorists group supposedly lying in wait to attack the troops and other innocent citizens plying the busy road.

The troops who have continued to dominate their areas with massive clearance patrols and ambushes sprang the surprise attack on the terrorists that have been menacing the peace and livelihood of the people in the area.

In the encounter, seven terrorists were neutralised while four AK-47 rifles were recovered along with several other items. The terrorists laid the ambush with the intent to harm NA troops and other innocent commuters. They however ran out of luck as they were instead trapped and neutralised in their own web. After the duel and successful neutralization of the terrorists, the troops continued their their clearance patrol up to Maiduguri.

Meanwhile, troops of OPLD will continue to maintain aggressive posture to ensure the entire area is cleared of terrorists elements and their activities while maintaining high moral and fighting efficiency.

You don’t need AK47 to compel certain people. Only Religious preaching is enough.

Religious preaching for where? You think the entire town is dumb or what? Even without NA, let ISWAP come into the town without guns and try to openly preach their ideology to these people, people who have lost fathers, mothers and siblings to the group's violence. Do you think they'd make it out alive? They'd be ripped to shredds the same way Boko Haram members were killed by Maiduguri residents during the Giwa Barraks incident.

Its like you underestimate the power and influence a man has over people when he's armed and they're at his mercy.

Had it been ISWAP wasn't violent ab-initio to the people or restricted their mayhem to non-muslim only would they have accepted the message or not? We all know how many extremist preachers like Mohammed Yusuf, Maitatsine, the late Sheikh Ahmad Gumi etc grew their followership.
Whether we want to accept it or not, the bitter truth still remains that many of those people in terrorist held communities today would have supported the ideologies ISWAP/BHT are pushing had those organisations limited their mayhem on "infidels".
