Hmmnn! I'm in Waterford and even here rent is not that cheap as housing is very scarce! Is it an uncompleted building? Either that or the BER rating of the house must be bad. People should beware oh!
Bro, I have some questions about Ireland as I plan to study there soon, I have sent you a private message on your email. Let's talk please.

Hello, I plan to do a 1year level 8 course in Ireland after which I will use the 1year post graduate work permit given to me to me after my studies to find work and save enough money to further my education in Germany. I don't know if it's possible to apply and obtain a German student visa from Ireland.

USD at form A rate is about 412, and then they will convert to Euro at the prevailing cross rate of c.1.20. Comes to about NGN495-500. It's CBN funds most likely so you can be free from excess charges. I paid last week so that's information from my payment - things can change sir

What bank did you use?

How long did it take for your payment to reach your school and how long did it take you to get the payment confirmation receipt from your school?

Hi everyone smiley

I would really appreciate your responses, especially if you are in Waterford (cc @Dwebb55) or you are a Nigerian PhD student who has travelled to Ireland with a baby/family members.

I have just been offered a fully-funded PhD for 4 years at WIT. I intend to go with my baby, who would be about 8 months old by September and I am really anxious about sorting out child care. My questions are:

1. Creche fees in Waterford seem very pricey, from my research (170-200 Euros per week). How have you handled child care while in Ireland? Is there an option to go with a family member (ideally my 60-year-old mum) to support with child care? Please feel free to share any tips that could make child care cheaper and stress-free for me.

2. In case I am not able to go with my mum, is 16,000 Euros enough to cater for modest housing, full-day Creche fees, and upkeep for me and my baby every year?

3. I would really appreciate some advice around finding affordable accommodation in a safe and child-friendly area within Waterford City.

Thank you in advance for your response smiley

Hi. I do not have any experience with a child as I am here alone. However, it your upkeep is Euros 16,000, it might be a bit tight. You can't share a flat with other students because of the baby and might have to get a self contained place. That might cost you about 500-600 a month. Groceries, baby things, food, heating may extend it to 900-1000. So that's 12,000 gone. With creche fees at 800 a month, you'll be walking a thin line. I am also not sure your mum can stay with you for a year straight so you'd have to walk a tight rope to balance your expenses. And taking PP might not be possible with the baby. I would also expect your course to be tedious as it is a PHD, so take time and plan am well!

All the best!

Everything depends on what course you want to study, the experience you have, the grade you come put with and the job market. Getting a job isn't 1+1. You must have experience to back up your course and even then, it is not automatic.

Applying for a course in Germany is possible but why not do it in Ireland?

Paid in USD via TransferMate using the Form A. FX rate was N412/USD. However, you should have excess in your account for bank charges that may be deducted.

Paid using WEMA bank, payment was received and confirmed by TransferMate (UCC's payment agent) in 5 working days.

Hello, thank you for you response I really appreciate.
I'm planning to study a higher diploma in Computing that is more like a 1 year conversion course into IT. The course is a
NQF level 8 course which is equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science/computing.

I've started studying programming and I plan to try to get a programming job in Ireland after study, if not, I plan to save some money with the one year post graduate diploma given to me and apply for another masters in Germany since Germany is free.

I don't know if I can save enough within that one year and further my studies for a masters degree in Ireland since schools in Ireland are very expensive.
I only have enough money to pay for my education once.

It took me 6 weeks since bank said they can't do Form A to a third party account, cause the school wants international students to pay via flywire agency

I think your rates were higher because you didn’t use form A. With form A, CBN would have given you a lower rate.
It will go well with us.

Thank you so much for your response smiley I am gathering up a few extra savings and also looking to do some paid teaching or other work to cover Creche fees so that 16,000 will be solely for rent and our upkeep. Please are you able to help with any leads for affordable accommodation around WIT? Ideally, I would be renting from January 2022 because I would complete first semester from here in Nigeria. Thanks again!

After the 1 year higher diploma, you are eligible for 1 year post study work permit. You can use that time to work to earn enough for your MSc program. Your proof of funds if applying for a study permit in ireland is less than applying from Nigeria.

thank you for your reply, please one last question, I have enough money to last me for my first 2 months in Ireland, which means, I need to get a job in Ireland before that 2months elapse.

I saw online that students are only allowed to work for 20hours/week.

So my questions are:

1. Will the minimum wage be enough to take care of my living expenses? accomodation, feeding, transport.

2. How long does it take to get a GNIB card in Ireland after arrival?

3. Do you think it's possible to get a job in Ireland within 2months of arrival? because if I don't get a job after that 2months, I'm toast.

Please I want to apply to university of Limerick, Ireland for M.Eng Mechatronics. The application fee is €35 but when I get to the student on-line payment page and input my GTBANK or WemaBank debit master card details and click pay. A 5501 error message displays on my laptop screen saying that " this transaction has already been processed contact our merchant if in doubt". I have tried making payment since last night still the same thing.

I emailed the school last night and they replied this morning that the issue is from my banks and I should contact them for explanation.

I went to GTBANK this morning to know whats up. Customer care says that if it's a naira debit card it won't go because they have put restrictions on card for transactions to merchants due to rampant fraudulent activities thesedays.

Please guys how can I make my application the deadline for applications is June and the earlier the better.
