I agree with your position! However, for as long as we remain part of Nigeria we WOULD demand 100% of what is our due from the federation! You can’t be milking our resources then turn around and tell us to build our region on our own....meanwhile the Buhari gov’t is borrowing billions of dollars (that you and i and our children will have to pay back) to fix up his region nicely!

Unfortunately ideologies differ and the average politician makes noise to attract self gain as opposed to actual representation. This is why I believe more in the contribution of the people. If I had my way I wouldnt even pay taxes but as its part of the law I see it as an expense and not a tax. Case in point is the enugu airport runway renovation. After over a year of closure I watched the politicians of the southeast gather to celebrate/heap praises on the FG for a renovation that left the terminal building like that of a war-torn city. Knowing the capability of the igbo man I believe they deserve more than that and can build a befitting airport for themselves. From the FG side I don't think stella oduah and chidoka did a good job probably because they were from anambra and didn't feel the need to do something about the enugu airport. Rather a terminal renovation project was embarked upon as a means of making individual gains with minimal impact on the people. It is for this reason than I'm clamouring for the people of the region to see this airport project as a gateway to the region and not an anambra thing

Air Peace already has international routes and is owned by an Anambra indigene. He has given indication that he is ready to move his south east hub from Enugu airport to the Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri upon its completion. Other airlines owned by Anambra indigenes like United Airlines and Havila will make the Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri their international hub for the south east zone.

Hehehehehe grin grin grin

You keep on calling this airport ‘Chief Willie Obiano int’l airport’ in the hope that if you say it enough times it will eventually stick! wink

Anambra International Airport is on Course

1. As the first commercial plane is scheduled to land at Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport on April 30, 2021, to test-run the facilities at the airport, a faceless group of hired propaganda guns has crafted and posted on the Internet a so-called news report alleging that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Aviation, has refused to give the Anambra State Government a licence to operate an international airport but has rather offered the State Government a licence to run a domestic airport. The scammers attributed the purported decision to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Sirika Hadi, a well-respected captain and administrator.

2. The news report is, of course, false, misleading and mischievous. The report fails to state when the Minister announced the alleged decision, how and to whom. In other words, it fails the basic requirements of a news report. Yet, we are compelled to refute the substandard report because of the anxiety it has created in millions of Nigerians, particularly Anambra people, across the globe who cannot wait to make use of the airport.

3. Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport remains an international airport. It will be commissioned at the appropriate time this year. Like any other airport in the world, it will start with local operations, add regional operations later and finally international flights. Its facilities are strong and built to global standards. The facilities are big enough to accommodate the biggest aircraft in the world. The runway is 5.7 kilometres in length and 60 metres in width, the longest and the largest throughout Africa. Its facilities are the most modern in the whole country, and such pieces of equipment as the fire trucks rank among the most modern in the world. It is the only airport in Nigeria with satellite landing instruments. The implication is that planes can land there any time of the day or night.

4. The Minister of Aviation has been exceptional in his support for the airport. The people and government of Anambra State could not have asked for better cooperation from the Honorable Minister and relevant agencies under his supervision like the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) whose leadership has never wavered in its praise for the quality of the job done and the commitment of the state political leadership.

5. A discreet investigation has revealed that the sole reason for the hack writers to falsely claim on the social media the downgrading of Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport is to create a crisis between the people and Government of Anambra State, on the one hand, and the Ministry of Aviation and the Federal Government, on the other, which will result in the postponement of the first flight scheduled to land at the airport on April 30, which is a few days away. The mischief makers will not succeed. The first plane to land on April 30 belongs to a worthy son of Anambra State, Chief Allen Onyema, who operates the only indigenous international air carrier in the country.

6. True, Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport may be the fifth airport to be built by any Nigerian state government. But it is the only one conceived and built for international operations. It is the only built in just one year three months.

7. The people and government of Anambra State are proud that the airport has practically been completed without the authorities borrowing even a kobo from any bank anywhere in the world, even at a time of acute global economic crisis which has seen the United Kingdom, for instance, in its worst recession in 300 years. We are also proud that the state government is up to date in meeting its contractual obligations to all the local and multinational firms involved in the project, despite the declining value of the naira against international currencies.

8. Indeed, the people and government of Anambra State have a date with history as far as the commissioning, operation and development of Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport are concerned. No politically motivated campaign of distraction and derailment against this project can work. Some people are obviously taking partisan politics too far. Certain things should be above politics and treated as sacred even in an election year in the state. Certain politically exposed persons have dethroned reason in the public square in the name of politicking for the forthcoming November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State. Our state must always provide a glimmer of hope in governance in Nigeria, in spite of the inelegant conduct of certain politicians and their agents.

God bless Anambra State, the Light of the Nation.

Signed

C. Don Adinuba
Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment.

Anambra people are very wealthy, influential and permeate every level of government, I am sure the FG will even close down Enugu airport if that will be an obstacle to the smooth operations of the Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri.

Why will they close down Enugu Airport? what kind of archaic mentality is this? An Igbo man doesn't pulls down a brother to elevate himself, cure yourself of this stupidity.

With the longest runway in the east capable of handling jumbo jets for cargoes as well as landing capabilities on either side of the runway, added to the fact that it is located near the most populated and economically viable metropolises of Onitsha and Awka, the NCAA won't bat an eyelid in selecting the Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri if they decide to choose only one Airport in the South East zone for International flights. Anambra's wealth will speak loudly.

If Kaduna and Kano who happens to be in same zone can have individual running International Airport, why should both Enugu and Anambra (Which happens to be state built) be different? Both Airport can thrive individually, FG won't be choosing anyone especially in a most widely travelled zone in the country.

Unlike anambra airport yunno despite it's not fully completed Yet alot of people are Anticipating to use it for international both those in Nigeria and abroad are willing to use it for international when it starts international operations

It's not as easy as you think. Foreign airlines have always been skeptical about flying to other cities apart from the big two in Nigeria. The only situation here is for an indigenous airline as you said, connects the airport and endures losses till it becomes profitable.

But Ethiopian might fly to anambra once the airport is complete. At least once or twice a week I believe.

You have a very primitive and disgusting mindset. Village men like should not be allowed to talk in public. So, you now want Enugu airport to be closed because the one in your state was just completed?!

The type of crab mentality you have has no place in the 21st century Igboland.

There is no question about if Anambra airport will be viable, or if any airline will want to fly its route considering the fact that Air Peace is an international airline and would definitely want to fly the route. However, you all seem to have forgotten so soon that this is still Nigeria with all its Igbophobic tendencies. I knew how long we demanded for Enugu airport to be granted international status and how it was resisted until GEJ allowed it.

To be honest with you, I will be pleasantly shocked if they make it happen but I won't bet my money on it.

The insistence on high quality in this project is what impressed me so much! It is a clear departure from the usual useless poor quality projects executed by typical southeast governors. Where they hide under "lack of funds" to build absolute rubbish poor quality stuff. Yet it ends up costing the same as a real high-quality project would have cost.

This is one of the few times in Nigeria where the actual building is more beautiful than the prototype!

I will say it again, GOD BLESS WILLIE OBIANO!!!

The man is a tiger the way he has managed to deliver this project on time and with every other facility that goes with it such as the dual-carriage main access road, Gatehouse, Parking lot for +700 cars, internal roads inside the airport, the perimeter fencing, fire station, tender crash fire trucks, water supply to the airport etc ! Just these side activities took years for many airports to get proper access roads, gatehouse or even constant water supply etc!

You just took that thought straight out of my mind... The physical airport is far more beautiful than the prototype.

Is Alhaji Hadi Sirika coming on the 30th of April for an official commissioning? Or that date is just for test-run of facilities and then the official commissioning date by the Aviation Minister would be on another date?
