Sometimes when I look back at my self, I was a good student, the best in my department, but after graduation I have learnt that book life is different from street life....
I have been depressed in the past, but i motivate myself and move on.
I have been teaching in one private school like that for two years now hoping job go come yet nothing nothing

Are there people wearing this same shoe of mine? If yes how are u coping

OP pick yourself up because self pity will do you no good. The mistake you made is you didn't give yourself a timeline of how long you'll be doing that underpaying teaching job, 2 years is already too much. That job will only rob you of the opportunity and chance to get a real job that will pave way for a better life.

Like someone suggested earlier quit that teaching work and get something more flexible while you wait for your dream job. Get a skill if possible while in this process

Hello, sir. You could have also told him what skill you learnt in particular and how you went through it. Learning to code comes with a lot of challenges, especially for self-taught developers. I must tell you that if you want to be a developer and you haven't started from school, you'll likely fail woefully because you'll be isolated and begin to struggle with time constraints owing to other commitments.

There are a ton of developers out there with similar range of knowledge. You'll be surprised to also find out that after years of committing to learn, you'll likely be taking a 30k to 50k from start ups who are bent on using you and have no provision for your growth. Telling people to learn to code has saturated the that market especially with mediocre devs. Being good for the industry also takes a few years.

Everybody now is coding.

You have a valid point.

This is the reason why I advice Jambites to go for self employable courses....
Don't be in a haste to enter the University....
I studied Architecture in the University. I went for my Masters immediately after NYSC....
I was combining my practice with a teaching job where I take home 25k.
Early this year I left d job to focus on Architecture.....To God be d glory. Amen

TRUTH!!

but can you blame them??

Parents with their merricine , lawyering, engineering are still putting pressure on these kids not factoring that a lot has changed from those days when these courses were still golden.

Some of them peer pressure push dem to just gain admission & go to school only to ask them dey say they studying zoology. Wetin you wan use that course do.

and don't vote APC or PDP if you truly want a better Nigeria. it's a party full of people whose aim is to ruin Nigeria. vote for new set of people who haven't been there before

I can feel your pain sir.
I was once in your shoe in 2016. My first job was with a private school that promised me 12k monthly with my 4.03 GPA in engineering.. Lol
I resigned there 2 weeks into the job for another private school that offered 30k monthly.. Stayed there for 6 months and resigned then go for my masters full time and I never regretted it till date because I actually had a distinction in my masters and that's the reason I resigned just to be focused on the program, after finishing my masters i vowed never to go back the street job hunting again.. Sir I actually searched for job after NYSC.. Omo I Waka LAGOS lolz, had series of interviews but none pulled through. Since business was calling, I needed a professional experience, so I joined one of the leading bank in Lagos as a marketer.. Wow! That's the beginning of a new phase. Got the necessary experience and training resigned after 3 months and boom.. Started business full time.. Sir, it's not easy in this street. People will tell you stuffs like everyone can't be in business and I always reply neither can everyone be enslaved and frustrated.. A lot of employees are slaves and frustrated. Business is not easy and it's not for the faint hearted but it worth it if you can find a niche and get the necessary skillsets in that niche and be consisted and committed, you'll surely be fine. I wish you all the best in your present and future endeavors sir.

You may be interested in starting your own business, see if this is what you want, I'm not promising you Millions but you sure gonna be fine, you can be spending 5 times your current pay to pay engineers to work for you weekly.. You know what that means.

OP am once in ur shoe but which I never hope of leaving there, one thing leads to another, one unnecessary disagreement with the board and some of my colleagues they just ask us to tender our resignation letter and we refuse but at last the man sack us....after I almost spend 5month at without lacking anything on my own cost..... from no where I don't even submit any application of which I know of....the next thing na interview about 4 of us dey choice me the next na to resume work.......
though its not my dream job but I have gain more experience and it's pay more then my previous job......
MY ADVICE : leave this current job of urs to give u more time to think and search for more opportunities out there but u most have a back up for almost three months to able to feed urself......
Good luck.......

This is a very interesting thread.

I hope it doesn't develop into a pity party but will provide the necessary impetus that will enable us lift ourselves out of the present circumstances we currently experience.

My observations (right or wrong but drawn from conviction) are as as follows;

The education system has become stale and is no longer producing graduates for the present. As a result of this the curriculum of the 1940s is what si used to prepare graduates for 2021 and beyond.

Many graduates have not decided what they want. All they seek is a fixed regular income without regard to their inputs to the system. That's why you find people taking temporary jobs that eventually turn into permanence.

This cannot never provide the stimulus for excellence. Without excellence you will only float with the wind.

The first step for every graduate is to identify the profession/vocation you are interested in and then get a foothold by entering the area at an entry level and then remain there by consistent improvements through training and development.

The second step is to look at the future and refuse to emphasize the present in terms of earnings or reward. Sow now by becoming proficient and we'll sought after and then you reap in multiples when you are reliable brand. But you must be able to grow to that level first and this will take painstaking work and patience but the end will be so rewarding and fulfilling you won't remember the pains and time/resources invested.

I think you should major on your course of study, probably master or professional certification or better still save up and learn a skill...

I recently created a thread where I asked on professional certification to have in job search.

ur own is still better, try n acquire a skill while serving. E get y.

Nothing in this life is better than having your own personal business (being a self employed person).

But in this country we are "our own shakara is too much" while we also knows that "no leg; no job" (nah give and take).
