Mr Sense, Does your brain not tell you that it will be cheaper? Let me enlighten your ignorance. 1. Nigeria has the raw product. 2. Nigeria sends it out. 3. Nigeria re-imports the product. 4. Nigeria sells the product at an expensive price. 5. Nigeria continue to service the non-performing refineries The fraud by greedy politicians is in Steps 2 and 3. Mr Sense, Mr Buhari told Nigerians that subsidy is a scam. Today we still pay the scam. Why can't the country have a minister of petroleum other than the president? How will you rate the performance of his ministry? Mr Sense, tell yourself the truth. The system isn't working. An oil producing nation should have refineries working. Let the refineries function. Mr Sense, if other countries refuse to make their refineries work, where will we be taking our crude to, to refine? Anyways, from your comment, I can guess your age. Or is it because of foolishness? Mr Sense, the system is not working. In other sane climes, the whole cabinet would have resigned themselves. Mr Sense, don't support evil, because evil usually outlives its supporters. Your generation will feel it. And they will curse you for your failure to speak against evil. At least learn from the great Luther. Better to remain silence than speak foolishly PataAlhajaKeji: 1 Like |

The harsh reality of these new figures underscores the reality...subsidy is a waste of money and it has to go, along with price controls. Nigeria does not have the money, and we never had the money to keep prices of fuel low. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, sadly, engaging in self deception. |

CocoaOla: We also had oil prices as high as $100 between 2010-14,meaning we had the dollars to buffer the naira and to pay for all those nice things you listed. Buhari had oil prices below $75 and as low as $25 twice, meaning he had less dollars to fund the nice things you want. My saying this does not mean I regard Buhari as a good leader...especially as he did not use the tolls he had to get us off oil.` |

SmartPolician: NNPC cannot boast of a fully functional refinery because since the late 1980's it has been forced to sell fuel below the cost of production. As a result, it could not , has not been able to run the refinereis profitably, and thus the refineres have become run down, and non-functional. We could have solved this problem if we had removed subsidy since...even as early as 1993, OR 2006. Both times, Nigerians said no. Removing subsidy, even now, would allow NNPc run its refinereis profitably...which would in turn make them functional. Addtionally privatrising NNPC means workers would be incentivised to work to make the refinereis run well...because bad refinereis in this scenairo means no profit means no salary. But thew thing is., Nigerians want to pay N40 for a liter of fuel...which is why APC won...through that lie. |

BigBizzy: If Buhari had really scrapped subsidy, by now fuel would have cost over N300 per liter What happens when government says they have scrapped subsidy is that they have partially removed/reduced the amount they spend subsidsing fuel, which manifests as an increase in the price....and this happens when the cost of subsidisng fuel rises. |

The government could spend 100 billion naira daily on subsidy daily, we Nigerians dont care, let them spend it, because if subsidy is removed, instead of using the funds gotten from the removal of subsidy to better the lives of ordinary and poor Nigerians, these greedy governmental officials will still steal all the funds. Beside they were the same crop of politicians crying fowl and led protest when jonathan wanted to increase the price of petrol then. These dimwits and retards are very good at dishing to others what they cant take 1 Like |

Capernum: So what else do you want the government to do? Our GDP is 15% dependent on oil, but our income is 70% dependent on oil..and it is the income that is used to pay for infrastructure, salaries, and subsides on petrol, electricity, and even educaiton. The alterantive we have is to widen the tax base. At the moment, 30% of Nigerians who should pay taxes actually pay. Government should ramp up efforts to colect taxes from the remaining 70%. WHich is going to be hard because most of the 70% work in the informal sector Yet, if we do that, we might have enough money to keep fuel below N100 even per liter. But since Nigerians don't want to pay more taxes, subsidy has to go. Because of subsidy, we have not been able to keep our refinereis profitable for decades, since the late 80's infact...which is why they have all run down. Subsides means price controls, which means petrol gets sold at a price lower than the cost of production, plus transport costs too are kept low. This not only prevented refienreis from running at a profit, it also forces marketers to smuggle fuel to countries where there is no subsidy to make a profit. Eityher way, it is costing us billions of naira .And it has to stop. |

goshee: Because since 1988, government has kept the price of petrol lower than its cost of production...and the subsidy paid to cover the difference has not been enough. And attempts to rectify this in the past...have always been met with resistance. |

With rue my heart is laden that for a country so blessed with natural resources yet poverty is is having glamorous feast on her citizens.. But for bad, corrupt and self-centered leaders from inception, Nigeria would have been an Envy to the world.. corruption won’t allow any of our refinery function.. Even as the lord tarry, May he continue to keep and provide for his children in Nigeria. |

I have a solution to make NNPC refineries work.. Deduct the monthly subsidies from the monthly salaries of all NNPC workers.. PS: Deductions should be done on pro rata basis with top management having highest deductions from their monthly salaries.. |

Highest level of corruption at its play. Very quick to estimate how much to be subsidised in a month when the global amount of the crude oil is not fixed for a month and changes all the time . In nija anything that goes up doesn't come down. |
