What you need to do is to report to the Police to be able to track the phone for you. You must have the receipt of the phone with the iMEi written on it or the carton of the phone. Then, you can make a deal with the police that the criminal when caught will have to pay for the cost of tracking the phone.

I took this screenshot from the last year after I got robbed of my phone. I never tried them so I don't know if they really work. You could give them a real though.

I have a Xiaomi device.. I want to know more. It's good to take precautionary measure.

Go to settings -> Mi Account (registered your account if you haven't done that) -> Devices -> all your Xiaomi phone will appear after you click on devices, click on your phone -> find devices -> turn it on

To find your phone incase it has been stolen or perhaps formatted by the new user,
Login into your Mi cloud from any device @ i.mi.com. you'll be able to erased your data, lock the phone from your mi cloud even though the thief flash new ROM, play sound...

If you've got an android phone and you had location switched on and a google account on ot then you can use find my android to locate it.

If you've got an apple phone and you have find my iphone active then you can use find your device by logging into your iCloud account on any PC or mac.

Your best bet would be to lock it and put a message than anyone who finds it should call a number.

When you reach station, police go tell you sorry if na the one wey still get human sympathy. The one wey no get go say "Make we track am?" The moment you answer yes his next response is "Your money na N100k". You pay at your own risk cos they can't track it.

You can only track a phone only when your phone has those built in functions that you can setup yourself especially in Nizooria.

If it's a Transsion device, the phone is as good as gone as ordinary flashing can allow the thief change the IMEI

If it's a Samsung, have location on and got your Gmail signed in on it then you can get it (unless you come across incompetent officers who won't do shii)

Same rule applies to Mi devices (if you have an Mi account)
iPhone (if you got find my device activated)
Huawei (they got their cloud service, don't know as I haven't used em)
Pixel (Gapps)
Sony

You can still get the phone if the thief is stupid enough not to cover his tracks.

Once you log into find my phone app on any apple device and mark the phone as lost, your iPhone gets locked to lock screen and enters lost mode ... the power- button becomes inactive. unless the battery is removed which requires an experienced iphone technician to do so. Otherwise the iPhone becomes unusable..
You even have the option to send your alternate contact number the the locked screen so the thief or whoever finds it will call you to come and collect your phone ... you can also activate the alarm to make the thief restless....

It depends on the kind of phone that got stolen
If it were to be Samsung, apple or xiaomi, it will make things a whole lot easier

But if it’s tecno and the likes then that phone is as good as gone
The money you’ll spend tracking will be more than the actual price of the phone

if its a smartphone, there's a way you can track it, that's if your GPS LOCATION is ON...
Look for an android device, open SETTING... scroll down and search for SECURITY & LOCATION, click on it you will see the option FIND MY DEVICE, click on it and fill the google login form with the gmail account you are using on the stolen phone... you will see the person whos with your phones movement.
Just make sure the missing phones GPS is on or else it won't work. sorry
