motionarena, I have.

When I stumbled into a thread discussing freelancing on Nairaland, I couldn't sleep for days.

As a graduate working for a startup, my salary wasn't up to 100k. However, I strongly believed that I could do much better than I was earning if I took the bold step.

Finally, I did and that decision was my toughest ever, but it turned out my best career decision.

Funnily enough, my former colleagues are still earning the same salary some 3 years later. I cannot even talk about how the naira/dollar exchange rate has made my job better, the exposure I get and free time at my disposal.

Now, I get plenty of rest and look so fresh grin

No jumping into Lagos traffic.

The truth is, no guts, no glory
please can we chat privately I need your advice

Be sure you're not quitting that job to go and sit before getting another job. It can be so difficult and full of regrets.
In my own case, I was tired of the teaching job but had the plan of starting my own hustle house painting and general printing and I was just ready to face the consiquencies of my action then. Thank God its a good decision I took.

Nigeria is not a place where you just resign because your boss yell at you or because of a toxic work environment if you don't have a backup, good financial savings and family or friends who can support you. The aftermath of this if not well planned is always devastating. In life you've to have a clear path and plans for your future to avoid regrets and and hardship coupled with the fact that these days no one really care or want to render help so is all man for himself. my advice is to get a job, set a target of maybe 3-5 years, save up some fraction of your salary every month no matter the bills to pay and get a good and sustainable back up plan then you can either search for another job and have a side hustle or quit and face the business squarelly

I quit my job without hope of another job. Today, I'm living better than I ever thought. And it's not just me. I have many friends who did such, too.

Note: all my friends and I are into pure legit hustles.

You must be wondering where the motivation came from. It's simple. When you look at your current miserable job, pay and standard of living then look at people who have spent all their lives in that career/job but none of them's life is close to what you want for yourself 10yrs from now let alone 35yrs from now, then you know you're not on the right track.

It's simple.
sir pls can I get ur number or email am planning on quiting my job for this reason I just got a new job but the people I see is discouraging

Yes, and I'm so happy I quit. After my youth service, I got a job as a facility manager for a suite that consists of 8 floors and a penthouse on the right wing. The floors are let out as offices to business organizations. Each floor is let out at an annual rent of 3.2million and each floor pays service charge of over 300k twice a year. All the floors including the 2 bedroom penthouse were occupied by business organizations. It's situated along the international airport road close to 7/8 bustop, Ajao estate. Though I didn't have any previous experience as a facility manager, it was quite challenging but I was determined to give it my best. I was also his secretary / personal assistant. I was in charge of anything maintenance as long as that building is concerned. My boss is the most wicked and heartless person I have ever worked for. Waking up everyday and knowing I was going to face him was a nightmare I only wished I could avoid. With all the money he makes from there (he makes over 32million yearly from the suite which is not his only source of income by the way) and the volume of work I did there, I was paid 35k as facility manager. No benefits, no allowance, nothing!! All I got was complain and mockery from him.. He choked me with so much pressure and frustration. Though I wasn't faultless but I always gave it my best shot.. I didn't have any experience in that field, which he was supposed to assist and motivate me to do better, but he was very far from that. He always looked for faults and when there is none, he creates one just to humiliate me. This is someone who is old enough to father my father. Even as an octagonerian,, retired as a successful businessman, having being blessed with uber successful children, established businesses in Lagos and his hometown in anambra, he still worships money like a pauper who suddenly stumbled upon millions. Ooh, he is so wicked and most cunny in have worked for. After working for him for 1 year, I realized that my life isn't getting any better under his organization. No growth, no advancement no matter how slow and coupled with the pressure I faced from him daily, the best option for me was to quit before I lost my mind. I didn't have any other plans in mind but I just had to quit. I didn't die.

You did the right thing!!!

My brother was like also a victim. With all the money his boss had to pay him his monthly salary was war
The boy would enter transport and all and still you will owe him. Someone that just finished service
Long story short, he quit and this man was owing him over 3monthS salary.

The bank I worked at too, the manager was a woman and a mean pretentious person
Mehn I just had to quit. The stress was way too much

Staying idle and broke is more stressful than any stressful job with a manageable pay.
Please don't quit without a solid plan B.
The moment you leave, you will realise that you don't know anybody and job is extremely scarce.

First you have to prepare your mind to face the challenge that will after...such as:
1) explaining to some family and friends who will give tell you you should not have.
2) you have to prepare to also loss some friends and fake family members as you will not always be datching out money as you used to in the past.
3) tell your self what you need to do after that to keep up your finances upward.

In my own case, I tried many things at first and I failed, but I keep trying many things till I found my bearing .

At least I make up to 50k every week .

I am involved in online trading (sport)..

NOTE...all you need is just capital of 200k and decipline.

Ur mental health is important,if you are not happy with it,my advice is quit.I did same at my last job although it took a while to get another, but what I eventually got was far better and my sanity was my almost concern when making my search,I avoided most one man biznes to save myself. But at the end the search is worth it,even though wht I got is not what I desire but the peace mehn is worth it after all.

Yes. I was tired and fed up.

I didn't even resign or give notice. I simply packed up and relocated to Lagos without a word to my boss or colleagues.

When I left Maiduguri to Abuja due to the insurgency,I worked in an hotel in Abuja somewhere in area 11 Emeka Anyaoku street (Prelude Resort) and I was hired with my degree as a garden supervisor. The working condition was hell and above all the wicked man managing the hotel "One Mr Yinka Agboola" was abusing us i.e the workers physically, spiritually, emotionally et'al,this man even raised his hand on me uncountable times but then,as a guy trying everything to survive I overlooked his wicked act.
A certain day,the man in his office called me in presence of his and was asking me questions concerning our staff while I stood in his presence trying to explain a certain issue,he took his hand and slapped me and told me to leave his hotel for him,I left his immediately while my colleague where begging to stay and apologize.Na so I jejely leave the work for am while he sent almost all his friends to beg me to come back.

Yes. I have done that for 3 employers.

What I always make sure I do was to prepare for 6 months ahead. By the grace of God, I always save up to take of my bills for at least for 3 months, not 100% relying on the coming salary. I dont owe them and they dont owe me.

When I start a new job, I will scan the working enviroment if it is toxic to my well being or not. If it is toxic based on the staff I met on the job. I will assess it to see if its management style or staff attitude. Once I discover that its the owner or management's style, I begin to plan my exit by myself so as to avoid unpleasant exit from any idiot that will spoil my CV.

1st & 2nd Exit: the MD rained abusive words on me. I maintained my cool to cob. After my dinner, I type letter of resignation, scanned it and send it to the HR and copy the MD.

3rd Exit: It was a case of poor planning on set up cost; and the owner was now trying to make staff scape goat his mistakes. Me, I can not suffer for a decision I was not part of.

3rd point is exactly what am facing in my work place
Poor start up plan by the owner, and refusal to take responsibility
Am quitting by Monday though
