reading this thread and all the experiences people shared here just opened wounds I've forgotten about....im just smiling while shedding tears inside for the hard lessons i learned about lending people money..
my first experience at how some people can be was when i got my first ever job and started work....one of my friends i practically grew up with approached me that civil defense was recruiting and an inside source have offered him a slot for the price of 250k...i was overjoyed because this was my guy that both of us stayed unemployed for months at home...he said the parents have raised 150k but the man is insisting on it being complete....naive me transfer 100k on the spot...afterall if he gets the job i can now brag i have someone in civil defense and if any one looks for my trouble i will call him to lock up the person....for 3months baba dey feed me different gist about how he will resume next monday...my money kwan for where...mumu me could not even open mouth and ask for my money....until one day he now opened up that the man duped him and they didn't recruit him again...i felt bad, cheered him up and kept quiet but after about a month, called him and asked him how he plans to pay me back,..oga change am for me oh, that im inconsiderate, how can i be thinking of getting my money back when he clearly explained he was duped and ontop of that did not get the job,...that i did not even ask of his parents that lost 150k in the job mata,...i weak...i sought advice from people and they said go and meet his dad....na so i carry my self reach their house, explain finish, the popsy shock...say nothing like civil defense job oh...im popsy even turn the mata on me come dey ask me why i no first verify the mata from him before sending him the money, i could not say a word...all i had was the debit alert and transaction receipt as evidence...chai...i weak...said he wont pay for money he didn't sanction to borrow...i left it to God sha....he now manages a bet9ja shop for someone and na so over 15years friendship take end oh...till today i no see my money

I suppose the solution to lending people money is to have it in writing. So that in the case of a defaulting, you can drag them to court. If there's evidence of a lending contract, the law will force the borrower to pay the money.

Well, this advice is only applicable to a functioning society.

During the lock down last year, this babe whom was an acquaintance, asked me to lend her 10k to take delivery of goods she ordered, for resell, I didn't know how long we would be in lockdown, so I told her I won't be able to give that 10k that I will give her 5k, cos I have this policy, I don't borrow money from people no matter how stranded I am, I always make plans for every of my tasks or activity, if I don't have enough money to do it, I won't do it, in this regard I don't give out money I am not ready to forget

So I gave her the 5k, she said she will pay back in seven days time, I personally added extra three days for her, the days came and gone, this girl didn't say piim, I didn't ask too

When I eventually asked for my money, she claimed they delivered inferior goods to her, so she didn't sell enough to refund me that I should give her more time, after two months I asked again, she said her bank has issues and all that, she can't make withdrawals or so transfer, all manners of annoying stories, I no to like stress, naao I just zone my mind from that money, even when I was broke and I didn't have enough to even fill my gas, I didn't ask this girl for my money, cos I promised my self I won't anymore, people are funny and deciteful embarassed

At that point I swore I won't lend people money again, but later I realised that will be a garage decision,I returned to my policy of not lending what i can't close my eyes and forget about, and I won't ever borrow money I cant pay back the next day, i hate debts

Just because she is female doesn't mean you can't ask for your money back in a rude way. You have to get rude to her. Don't let her insult your sensibility

An experience with a debtor can almost kill you with tension.
You call the person on phone but he will not pick your call. He picks when you use another number. He apologizes. You say you are coming to collect your money as promised. He tells you quickly thats he is not at home. And begin to shout HELLO!, HELLO, HELLO! I cannot hear you o. HELLO! HELLO. Meanwhile you begin to scream frantically in despair that he must not hang up that phone that you can hear him. But alas he hung up and switched it off immediately.

You decided to go to his house, his children come up and say ''My Daddy say I should tell you that he is not at home". embarassed

You call him again he apologizes that network over there was bad and phone battery was low. He now says send your account number, I will send the money now. You send your account number then you wait, but no alert. You call him repeatedly and everyday he keeps saying he will send it tomorrow.
When you bust up on him on phone, he concludes by shouting HELLO! HELLO! HELLO and quickly says I can't hear you over there o and switches off the phone.
It's then you realize that this his attitude is affecting your health. angry

I just have to let go to avoid having BP at a tender age

Someone I consider a close friend is owing me 800k and has been giving me stories upon stories and from the look of things, Seems he wants me to give up on it.

Worst part is I don't even know where to begin to recover my money back.

This dude is connected to lagos politics & oluomo himself.

Na so one guy wey i been dey date come borrow money from me for business, he asked for almost 500K, was calling my line per second during that period because of this money. I eventually gave him 100K (an amount I can easily forfeit). Immediately the money hit his account, he stopped calling my line.

After three weeks, I learnt through a friend that he has gotten married to another lady. Guy carry my money go marry another person. When I reminded him about the money, he became angry and started telling me how he regret borrowing money from me.
Aside from the loan, the guy was taking a lot of things from me to give to his secret girlfriend. Well, I have learnt my lessons through the hard way never to borrow or give any man, boyfriend or not my money.

Hello...reading through this got me thinking.
Pls can you put your experience into writing so it can be monetized profitably.
Get through to me via the facebook ID on my profile for proper details towards achieving this if you don't mind my proposition or deal.
Selling it to the 500 interns in my database for just $10 profit should interest you.

Best Regards

The best is never to lend at all. The stress you'll go through in collecting back the money they begged for with teary eyes isn't worth it.

I myself I don't lend people because of terrible experiences I've had with those I tried helping in the past.

If you come to me to borrow money, I'll give you an amount I know I can afford to part with and tell you not to pay me back, my peace of mind is my priority.
