Good day professionals. I have a 9yr old son who I think will fare well in either computer programming, software developer, software & hardware engineer or so.

I am just a regular computer user who have zero knowledge on the aforementioned prospects. Pls, someone should tell me where to start from. I am more inclined to the software/hardware prospects

Is his age too small?
Do we have specialised learning centres that I can enrol him?

Thanks in advance

Put a computer at home. Most people developed interest in programming simply because they had a computer at home.

The age is not too small. Your son can start off learning scratch then move on to a language like C or C++ at his age money isn't a factor so it would be good to learn things like that.

He can also go a step further to learn data structures and algorithms and start competing with his mates on solving hard programming questions. Don't allow anyone say your son is too young. Go and check the age of kids participating at the international Olympiads for informatics or google and Facebook code jam. They are mostly within the age range of 9 to 16.

Why do you want to confuse the young boy's future?

When the time comes he himself will decide what he wants to become

On the contrary, preparing him for the future at a young age will do him a lot of good.. you only have to know where his interest lies

Fvck you.

At the age of 15 when I developed interest in programming I had to traveled to another city to use a computer and learn HTML and CSS. We had no cyber cafe in my place as at then.

As at that time many of my friends had computers in their houses but today none of them is programmer.

If you like buy mainframe and keep in the house, the boy go use am play game grin

Have you wondered what he wants? I thought we're now past imposing careers on kids.

Am not imposing a career on him sir. Am only following his interest and moreover, laying a foundation for him will save him a lot of stress later in life

For the main time register him with a tutor or a learning hub that deal with range of computer skills. He by the himself would make his choice. If that is not possible. Let him start with coding, and with right tutor. And then watch his interest over time.

In any case, learning programming will help him in any career he chooses. Just don't be the one choosing for him. Good luck.

And you think that video game players don't make money online? That was how drone pilots started.

If you don’t understand the lingo used now then moving the thread to the front page won’t help your matter. Teach yourself how to program first, it will make introducing him to the concept easy. You say you don’t know anything regarding computers, there are training schools littering every street where you can pick up the basics. What, are you afraid to pay to learn new tricks?

There are multiple parts to this but one I can recommend is that you the parent also take an interest in tech. Kids tend to gravitate to what their parents do. I took an interest in something my mom was doing and got very very good at it early. I don’t code professionally yet but I’ve never had tech phobia in school and some thing I’d recommend for that is just having an inbuilt sense for abstraction and playing lots of video games. And then math boot camp my parents made us attend as kids. With kids I tend to prefer focusing on foundational interests like reading and developing math aptitude early. As they get older their interests may veer off in different directions. But it’s not out of order to point them toward tech since that has become integral to most other disciplines. Even if you end up loving biology and the life sciences, knowing how to code just increases your value that much more

I suggest you watch some YouTube tutorials on getting started.
One of my favourite programming channel on YouTube is Caleb curry channel.
Direct link to his channel: https://youtube.com/c/CalebTheVideoMaker2

You can also check out other programming channels..

After having clear knowledge you can now know which programming language your son will learn first. Preferably Python is a good programming language for beginners because of its nature of simplicity.

Many programmers out there do not have degree or so called certificate. Most of them are self taught making use of different platforms like YouTube and google. You can also enroll in courses online from platform like Udemy
Udemy has both free and paid courses

You also check out some free and paid courses here :
https://www.codebreakthrough.com/ultimate-programming-all-in-one-tutorials/28to3

You can download them directly to you system and guide your son while watching the videos. Its not that difficult because the course instructor explains everything in details.

Is that what He wants for himself?

Do you know if he wants a to be a porn-star or a programmer?

Buhari wanted to be a cow rarer, but some people forced him to be a President, now we have a disaster.

If our parents let us enjoyed our Monkey post and street football then, by now some of us would have been competing with Messi and Ronaldo.

Let the child decides what he wants

I think he is still too young to be exposed to that level of IT knowledge.

I think you should just let him learn the basics first like desktop publishing and computer appreciation.

I remember when I did my desktop publishing diploma program, we had a boy his age in our midst too and he coped well. So let him start off with that. Then when he's much older and knows his right from wrong, you can encourage him to go into programming by what time his interest would have been built in that area.

Before you force it on your pikin go and watch "3 Idiots" first. It's a popular Indian film.
