Good day professionals. I have a 9yr old son who I think will fare well in either computer programming, software developer, software & hardware engineer or so.

I am just a regular computer user who have zero knowledge on the aforementioned prospects. Pls, someone should tell me where to start from. I am more inclined to the software/hardware prospects

Is his age too small?
Do we have specialised learning centres that I can enrol him?

Thanks in advance

Put a computer at home. Most people developed interest in programming simply because they had a computer at home.

The age is not too small. Your son can start off learning scratch then move on to a language like C or C++ at his age money isn't a factor so it would be good to learn things like that.

He can also go a step further to learn data structures and algorithms and start competing with his mates on solving hard programming questions. Don't allow anyone say your son is too young. Go and check the age of kids participating at the international Olympiads for informatics or google and Facebook code jam. They are mostly within the age range of 9 to 16.

Why do you want to confuse the young boy's future?

When the time comes he himself will decide what he wants to become

On the contrary, preparing him for the future at a young age will do him a lot of good.. you only have to know where his interest lies

Fvck you.

At the age of 15 when I developed interest in programming I had to traveled to another city to use a computer and learn HTML and CSS. We had no cyber cafe in my place as at then.

As at that time many of my friends had computers in their houses but today none of them is programmer.

If you like buy mainframe and keep in the house, the boy go use am play game grin

Have you wondered what he wants? I thought we're now past imposing careers on kids.

Am not imposing a career on him sir. Am only following his interest and moreover, laying a foundation for him will save him a lot of stress later in life

For the main time register him with a tutor or a learning hub that deal with range of computer skills. He by the himself would make his choice. If that is not possible. Let him start with coding, and with right tutor. And then watch his interest over time.

In any case, learning programming will help him in any career he chooses. Just don't be the one choosing for him. Good luck.

Hello as a mother you should know what make him happy while playing.if it computers then you are doing the right thing to your son. first you should know what what part of programming HE should learn: web development or Application development.if it web delopment then which part is it front-end development or back-end development.
1.web development means the development of web applications meaning websites like www.nairaland.com,www.selfeefy.com,www.facebook.com,www.meediary.com and many more.
1i)front end is the development of website pages design.
1iilwhile back end is the behind the scene of web applications
2.Application development is the technology use to develop Mobile applucations games,pc softwares and many more.
with this little explantion then you will now search for courses related to his field.
dont mind me listing differend fields. he can combine them and learn little by little.
my advise here is to hire a mentor to teach him or you form note through open source platform for learning programming. i recomment you to try www.w3schools.com it free and simple for some one whom can read and write to understand.they also teach with thousands of examples and execises that will turn your son a professional programmer if he dedicate him self to learn. i also learn there.you can see the result of what i did in my projects like www.meediary.com . thanks

If you don’t understand the lingo used now then moving the thread to the front page won’t help your matter. Teach yourself how to program first, it will make introducing him to the concept easy. You say you don’t know anything regarding computers, there are training schools littering every street where you can pick up the basics. What, are you afraid to pay to learn new tricks?

There are multiple parts to this but one I can recommend is that you the parent also take an interest in tech. Kids tend to gravitate to what their parents do. I took an interest in something my mom was doing and got very very good at it early. I don’t code professionally yet but I’ve never had tech phobia in school and some thing I’d recommend for that is just having an inbuilt sense for abstraction and playing lots of video games. And then math boot camp my parents made us attend as kids. With kids I tend to prefer focusing on foundational interests like reading and developing math aptitude early. As they get older their interests may veer off in different directions. But it’s not out of order to point them toward tech since that has become integral to most other disciplines. Even if you end up loving biology and the life sciences, knowing how to code just increases your value that much more

I suggest you watch some YouTube tutorials on getting started.
One of my favourite programming channel on YouTube is Caleb curry channel.
Direct link to his channel: https://youtube.com/c/CalebTheVideoMaker2

You can also check out other programming channels..

After having clear knowledge you can now know which programming language your son will learn first. Preferably Python is a good programming language for beginners because of its nature of simplicity.

Many programmers out there do not have degree or so called certificate. Most of them are self taught making use of different platforms like YouTube and google. You can also enroll in courses online from platform like Udemy
Udemy has both free and paid courses

You also check out some free and paid courses here :
https://www.codebreakthrough.com/ultimate-programming-all-in-one-tutorials/28to3

You can download them directly to you system and guide your son while watching the videos. Its not that difficult because the course instructor explains everything in details.

Is that what He wants for himself?

Do you know if he wants a to be a porn-star or a programmer?

Buhari wanted to be a cow rarer, but some people forced him to be a President, now we have a disaster.

If our parents let us enjoyed our Monkey post and street football then, by now some of us would have been competing with Messi and Ronaldo.

Existing bloggers can drop their URL for reviews
Before you drop your url , take out time to read this piece

Before I proceed do you need a business website , VTU , E-commerce , Real estate .. I can help you design whichever type of website you want to create , Just reach me via 08060264938

Unlike every other business , Blogging is one of the most profitable business that economy recession does not affect , NCC recorded over 105 million active Nigerian users on the internet , which means recession does not affect blogging , regardless of how broke Nigerians are , we will still visit the internet ... But trust me , in every business once you lack proper understanding and strategy, you end up going the wrong way .. Before i continue I'm a web consult, check out one of my popular Thread on NL https://www.nairaland.com/4161635/drop-ur-blog-url-get

Okay , Let’s continue , You will Agree with me that we have many bloggers , over millions , but only few succeed , why ?? because they understand every necessary thing needed , Mind you , Blogging is just like any other offline Business, If you are not ready to spend & investment then I'm sorry to say "You might be one of the , I want to sell my blog" Type of bloggers. I can not guarantee how much you will be earning per day, But I can assure you , you will recover back your initial capital within a short period of time depending on your plans ..
Here is an analysis of how to monetize your blog
After perfect Web Creation , Opt in for the following in monetization of your Blog
Google adsense
Affiliate marketing (Depending on your niche)
Now , you need to blog for money , that is why you must think in a way others are not .
According to AdSense , Nigeria are not really favoured when it comes to Adsense ..for every click on your adsense account from a Nigeria User you might end up earning ($0.07) But talking of countries like USA , UK , south Africa , Canada .. You get as low as ($1 - $10) depending on your niche , keyword ,search visibility , i know you are getting confused , You can call me for better explanation 08060264938 ,
Now here is a strategy from me , oh before i forget "I'm Business Strategist | Business Consult , i can raise your dead business all you need to do is get ready to spend"
Be prepared to Spend on Facebook Ads , trust me with a Good strategist like me , you will always get high return in your earning from Facebook Ads , Many people just don't really understand how it should done that why you end not getting the advert impression you wanted , I can help you in running Ads for desired countries, interest e.t.c and be rest assured to get double folds .. So , i can not disclose my strategy here , But a wise person should already get the concept of how you can earn over $50 from AdSense in a day ..
Imagine you have 5,000 Page view daily,
2500 from Nigeria , 2500 from Top country with High CPC from Adsense as a result of our Facebook ads and some other means lipsrsealed not disclosing
Imagine You have 100 clicks from Nigeria (Ctr 1% , CPC= 0.10)
Your total earning should be in the range of ($10 - $20)
Now having 50 clicks from Top country with high CPC (Ctr 1% CPC =$1- $2) that is ($50 -$100 ) Depending on your facebook ads Budget ... I hope somebody is smiling cheesy .. In a day you tend to earn over $60 - $70 provided , ($1800 - $2100) in a month , Now remove your adverts budget , web space fee , other payments , You should be left with at least $1000 as personal Gain ... Mind you , adsense is not the only way of monetizing your blog , But it is the major way ... Other forms of monetization include affiliate marketing , Offline adverts e.t.c , Get prepared to earn over $3000 in all ..
Here is a breakdown of how much you should be spend in setting up your standard Blog
Domain - Depending on your extension and country of purchase .. We have and Nigerian Registrar and Foreign Domain Registrar , (Just like you know , Anything Nigeria is not always the Best Idea , but preferably the could be managed for a start) So , depending on your financially capability and how well do you believe in this business, You can either choose between a Nigerian Registrar and Foreign Domain registrar ..
Talking of Foreign Registrar .Com ($10 - $15) depending on the registrar, I recommend www.Godaddy.com. you can check out their pricing list
Talking of Nigeria Registrar .Com (3500 - 4500) depending on the registrar as well , for Nigeria , i recommend www.whogohost.com
Now , after buying your domain , Congratulations , you are now a CEO grin ,
Get a WordPress Hosting Plan , like stated above , you have to choose between a foreign Hosting registrar and Nigeria as well (For a Nigeria Hosting plan be prepared to experience downtime , your website might go off for couple of hours without any tangible reason) For a foreign Registrar I recommend www.bluehost.com ($2.5 -$7 per month) depending on your website purpose , I have over 10 websites with them and perfectly fine , for Nigeria , I recommended the same www.whogohost.com (400 -2500)
After getting this two, approach any Good WordPress Developer like me grin , Trust me a professional wordpress designer (SEO optimized ,easy AdSense approval , Mobile friendly ) will charge you nothing less than (#30,000 - #100,000) Depending on what you want, But you can contact me for further details 08060264938.. .
Get AdSense , Register for some affiliate marketing programs , Employ Good Content writers and watch as your investment grows !! .. I hope i was able to inspire someone , Drop a review about Me here if this post was helpful

I think he is still too young to be exposed to that level of IT knowledge.

I think you should just let him learn the basics first like desktop publishing and computer appreciation.

I remember when I did my desktop publishing diploma program, we had a boy his age in our midst too and he coped well. So let him start off with that. Then when he's much older and knows his right from wrong, you can encourage him to go into programming by what time his interest would have been built in that area.
