Why would God ask Abraham to build a house for idol worshippers ?

Anas added, "We reached Khaibar at night and in the morning when he did not hear the Adhan for the prayer, he (the Prophet ) rode and I rode behind Abi Talha and my foot was touching that of the Prophet. The inhabitants of Khaibar came out with their baskets and spades and when they saw the Prophet (ﷺ) they shouted 'Muhammad! By Allah, Muhammad and his army.' When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw them, he said, "Allahu-Akbar! Allahu-Akbar! Khaibar is ruined. Whenever we approach a nation (to fight), then evil will be the morning of those who have been warned."

Allah, exalted is He, revealed to him then Surah al-Najm (By the star when it stetteth…) [Surah 53]. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, recited it but when he reached (Have ye thought upon al-Lat and al-'Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other) [53:19- 20], the devil put on his tongue what he had secretly wished and hoped for and said: 'These are the mighty cranes (gharaniq) and their intercession is hoped for'. When the Quraysh heard this, they were very pleased. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, carried on reciting until the end of the Surah and then prostrated. All the Muslims followed suit and prostrated, and all the idolaters who were present prostrated too. All those who were present, whether Muslim or disbeliever, prostrated except al-Walid ibn al- Mughirah and Abu Uhyahah Sa'id ibn al-'As who were too advanced in age and could not prostrate, but they both grabbed a handful of dust and put their foreheads on it. The Quraysh then dispersed, happy with what they heard. They said: 'Muhammad has mentioned our idols with complimentary terms. We know that Allah gives life and takes it away, He creates and provides sustenance, but these idols of ours will intercede for us with Him. Now that Muhammad has associated them, we are all with him'. That evening, Gabriel, peace be upon him, went to the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, and said: 'What have you done? You recited to people that which I did not bring from Allah, glorified is He, and you said what I did not say to you'. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, felt very saddened and was greatly scared of Allah. And so Allah, exalted is He, revealed this verse, upon which the Quraysh said: 'Muhammad has regretted what he has mentioned regarding the status of our idols vis-à-vis Allah'. And they became even more antagonistic than before". Abu Bakr al-Harithi informed us> Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Hayyan> Abu Yahya al-Razi> Sahl al-'Askari> Yahya> 'Uthman ibn al-Aswad> Sa'id ibn Jubayr who said: "The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, recited (Have ye thought upon al-Lat and al- 'Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other) upon which the devil projected on his tongue: 'These are the mighty cranes and their intercession is hoped for'. The idolaters were pleased. They said: 'He has mentioned our idols'. When he read it to him, Gabriel said: 'As for this I did not bring; this is from the devil'. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

But Christianity was spread by the power of God through signs and wonders.

And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. Secondly , you fail to understand who God is.
In the old testament , God commanded the Israelites to take over the land which he promised Abraham .
They killed the inhabitants because they were Idol worshipers who were serving the devil.
After taking over the land , they remained in that land and did not leave their land to spread their religion. Unlike Islam who are killing people to spread their religion.

Thirdly , Christianity is not Judaism. The God of the Jews did not kill people to spread Judaism likewise Christians.
If Israel had the intention to destroy the whole of middle east , they would have done that easily, but that was not God's instructions to them. They were instructed to wait for the Messiah , Jesus Christ , who will tell them what to do. Moses specifically told them this.

Africans , American , Asians , Europeans , etc have historical records of killings for possession of lands at one time or the other.
This is not different from that of the Israelites. It was not to force people to accept a religion.
It is only in Islam that this evil was carried out.

Like you said the hadith to fight and kill to spread Islam is still valid.

Allah is the Transcendent of all, the Protector and Far-Superior to all.
[112:3] Al-Ikhlāṣ-الْإِخْلاَص
"لَمۡ یَلِدۡ ۬ۙ وَ لَمۡ یُوۡلَدۡ ۙ﴿۳﴾

He has not begotten any, nor is He begotten.

[112:4] Al-Ikhlāṣ-الْإِخْلاَص
"وَ لَمۡ یَکُنۡ لَّہٗ کُفُوًا اَحَدٌ ٪﴿۴﴾

Nor is there anyone equal to Him.’

While the God of the Christians is a Trinity.

Allah warned:

And there are some amongst the people who take others besides Allah as His partners and love them as it is Allah’s due alone. But those who believe love Allah the most (far more intensely than anyone else). And if these wrongdoers happen to see that time when the torment (of the Last Day) will be before their eyes (then they will become aware) that the Master of all the forces is Allah. And certainly Allah is severe in punishment.

I don't know how the verse you quoted relates to Allah responsible for evil.
But, Allah is aware of all your machinations:

Allah is only permitting to do and say what you are doing, until the appointed time for you.

If God can command the Israelites to kill the inhabitants to claim their land and you don't find anything wrong with it, who are you to question Allah if He decides same for the Muslims in any guise?
