David Didn't Killed Goliath, Bible Verse. by ictplotter(op): 9:48am On Apr 25, 2021
In the book of 1st samuel bible tell us David killed goliath but in 2nd samuel the narrative was different. Why is bible contradicting itself?

Those passage were actually confusing, but if you read '1 Chronicles 20:5' which says,

“In another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod.”

This verse repeats the detail of the size of the spear shaft, and it clearly says that Elhanan killed Goliath’s brother, rather than Goliath himself

So the 2nd samuel which state that Elhanan killed Goliath is false?

Happy Sunday beloved .... There is no contradiction here just that it's obvious your indepth in the word of God and how the Bible is composed is not deep

During those days there's a rule of war which is having a representative of a nation to face another from representative for a nation....

If the representative is brought down or killed as the story of David and Goliath reveals its accepted that the nation has been defeated

Reason each nation at war presents their best man of war and hence accept defeat if he's killed...

So the account in 2sam is not giving details about the fight between David and Goliath solely but the consequences of the defeat which is accepting defeat for the whole nation....

Shalom !!!!

Checking the context of 2nd Samuel makes it clear that's it's describing an entirely different event from David's slaying of Goliath.

2nd Samuel 21:11-14 puts the passage after the death of Saul who was still alive when David killed Goliath.

2nd Samuel 21:15-17 shows that Elhanan killed Goliath during the kingship of David not when David was still Saul's servant.

It's a clear case of Scribal error omitting 'brother'

not false, Elhanan killed Goliath's brother.
2 Sam. says "in another battle", it means the first battle was between David and Goliath, while the 2nd battle was between Elhanan and Lahmi (Goliath's brother)

Still very confusing and contradicting, if we must accept the truth.

Your grammar is pathetic. What is "illiterate minded "? Who taught you that grammatical stupidity ...?

What facts are you ranting about? Did you you bother reading the verse properly? Nonsense

Yes, it's a Scribal error.

The passages were giving two different event.

1st Chronicles 20:5 gives the clear account of what happened in the second battle between Elhanan and Lahmi.

grin This is a different Goliath at a different battle. HERE DAVID IS KING not Saul!

In Samuel, David was a Shepherd!

Why no KjV in your proof of evidence? Anyway not required!

In NIV, KJV, NLT, etc, 2 Samuel 21:19 referred to the person killed as Goliath's brother.

Not only that, in 1 Chronicles 20:5, those versions, which you mentioned, repeated the same story but with the correct description of the person Elhanan killed.

You are free to believe whichever you like. Your prerogative.

David didn't kill Goliath the Gittite but Goliath of Gath.

The last verse of that passage tell you that more than one Giant from same family were killed by David and his men

God book?? who said it was sent down or written by God.......

The error came during the translation from the original manuscripts.

GW
When more fighting broke out with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan, son of Jaare Oregim from Bethlehem, killed Goliath of Gath. (The shaft of Goliath’s spear was like a beam used by weavers.)
GNT
There was another battle with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jair from Bethlehem killed Goliath from Gath, whose spear had a shaft as thick as the bar on a weaver's loom.

I wrote "inspired by god book" and you just rephrased it to god book, changing the meaning of what I wrote and then injecting something I didn't say.

If the original manuscripts were available to check and spot the error, how come the error propagated in multiple translations?

You should engage your commonsense more for one who always wants things to be logically explained. There you go again missing the simple concept of inspiration. Divine inspiration is not dictation. God can divinely inspire a stick, like the rod of Aaron. What it means is that God USED it. The stick doesn't have to be from Heaven. Two people can write a book on the same thing. God can USE/breathe on one. That one comes alive for supernatural purposes. It doesn't mean that God will change the grammar or intonation or handwriting and lexis. It's like/similar to a popular figure endorsing or retweeting or using your works on SM. The work that was struggling with 100views will suddenly see 1million views and likes. Nothing much changed in the initial work but it has become global and applauded and of course making money and awards compared to others like it, because of the endorsement.

I expect you to close the thread immediately someone pointed to you your error of not reading all text relating to your question.

You may be asking from a good heart but immediately you were shown where your error comes from and you were corrected, you should take it else, your refusal to accept the facts presented to you will give an assumption that you were never looking for clarity but unnecessary argument which poison the heart.

Your answer is here. 1 Chronicles 20:5

Biblical errors or your errors? Nigerians and their religious stupidity so irritating. 2nd samuel stated that it wasn't David that killed Goliath. With biblical verses above. Here talking rubbish about my error. Its biblical errors not mind ok. You read 2nd samuel 21 vs 19. Except kjv version. All the other versions clearly stated it wasn't David that killed goliath.

So the bible is not inerrant? And inspiration by god does not imply inerrancy?

Be calming down, you are getting too emotional. LMFAO! Use some of that freewill you say you possess. LMAO!
