Buhari is the head of a powerful - in fact overly-powerful - presidency, in a highly centralized nation where states have no autonomy over most things that matter. If anyone deserves blame for Nigeria's sorry state, it's the man who's now midway through his second term sitting in Aso Rock.


And who appointed them? Whose failure to properly assess the strengths and weaknesses of his candidates allowed them to get there? It's utterly ridiculous to absolve Buhari of the responsibility of appointing unsuitable people, assuming that is even where the problem really lies in the first place.

The fact of the matter is that Buhari is and always has been an extremely intellectually limited, yet delusionally self-regarding individual, who thinks he has the answers to all sorts of questions he's never bothered to even study, and whenever he's been given excellent advice by people who serve under him, he's chosen to ignore it. Under such circumstances, even if every minister in Buhari's cabinet was a Nobel Prize winner in his or her field, the end result would still be much the same as what it currently is: nonsensical economic policies and general political paralysis that is steadily leading Nigeria down the path Venezuela has blazed under Maduro.

US President Harry Truman showed what real leadership should look like when he made the statement "The buck stops here", acknowledging that bearing the ultimate authority in a country also means bearing ultimate responsibility. In a travesty of leadership, you Buhari apologists seem to think the buck should stop with anyone and everyone other than the man who ultimately calls the shots. I hope you're getting paid for your efforts, because I can't see how anyone with half a brain could look at this utter failure of a leader and voluntarily try to excuse his disastrous rule by shifting the blame onto underlings Buhari himself selected.

Governance is not easy. Nigeria for the past 60 years has earned most of its foreign exchange income from the sales of crude oil.

This era, is coming to an end.

Our aged parents do not have any idea on increasing productivity beyond the sales of natural resources.

We can keep complaining about Buhari, and then vote in another aged parent without any idea or we can try to educate ourselves about what it would take to move this country forward.

We need a set of policies, not personalities to navigate this treacherous condition our nation finds itself in. We need to come to an agreement as to what to do without sentiments.
