Now, to be honest, I just clocked 26. I was done with my sec. education way back in 2012. Due to one problem to the other, i couldn't further. I had to involve myself in some menial jobs to sustain myself for the meantime and along the way, i learned phone and computer engineering and i do brush through some very important books occasionally.

This is where I need your wise opinion guys. Dad got into a problem when i was about to finish sec. School and since then, hes been repaying debt till now. Infact, debt has consumed all his salary. He's just borrowing from peter to pay Paul to survive.

And he's still of the opinion that i go to school. I got admission to study pharmacy at OOU in 2018, paid the acceptance fee but couldn't pay school fees and i lost it for good. So he wants me to try again but where will he even see the money when school wahala comes again? He's gonna go the borrowing way again i guess; compounding the problem we have at hand

So I've been thinking....what if i go back to factory work, then get myself a computer and learn programming "frontend development for a start"? I want to dedicate atleast 1 to 2 years to learn it. Then after that, i would proceed to school either on part time or full because i still want to further my education to get the b.sc cert. at the minimum.

Honourable men and women, CONSIDERING THE NIGERIA OF TODAY, i need your wise words at this critical junction of my life.

If I'm done with the programming, can it atleast sustain me a little bit?

Should I faithfully follow my dad's intention or just go through my own plan?

Thanks

Yes you can. Its really all up to you, your determination and drive. You have a good plan but its really up to you to follow it through, planning is the easiest part.

Explain it to your dad and buy him into the plan, you need as much people in your corner to encourage you on the days when you’ll feel like letting it all go to flames.

Wishing you all the best.

My brother or sister, Times come in our lives when we don't know what next to do. At this juncture, The best thing to do is to talk to God, get close to him so you can hear his direction. He created and designed you, He knows why you are in this present situation. Don't rely on opinions and advice of people. Most of them will do worse if they are in your shoes and that is what they will come and give you as advice. Peace!!!

School is good only if you can afford it.
I told a group of people we were arguing on how pastors collect offering and tithes to build universities that there poor members can't attend, I told them that University education is not for the poor.

Like I said earlier, uni is good, but it's not for the poor, and not going to school can't stop u from fulling your destiny.
We have read how some of the wealthiest people in the world today never went to uni., Thanks!

Getting a computer and learning that programming is best for you.
Let me use myself as an example. Completed my secondary school at the age of nineteen, no money to further, I got a job, and from that Job I was able to pay my way through the university and also paying my rent comfortably without bothering my parent. After my NYSC, I didn't bother much looking for a job, I continue doing same Job and am growing in it. Am happily married with kids. Just completed my masters degree. If I get a better job, I'll switch, if I don't, I'll continue doing this because it's paying my bills.
Now, in your own case, get your computer and involve in something that will fetch you little money without bothering your parents for money. Manage and see your self through school and maybe something better might come your way. You already know you dad's problem, so relying on him for your education might be fruitless or even if he manage to pay your fees, you might struggle to meet other needs.
No time is ever late for one to get education.

I think you have a strong interest in programming. Follow that path and you will be able to afford your education with little or no support from your dad. It will be a win-win situation.

I wish you all the best.

What a Loving Dad that wants the best for his son....

From the depth of my heart, I pray may doors open... May you and your family be favoured before God and before Men...

talk with Dad, convince him to understand that you know how difficult things are, that you want to start a better job, then promise him you will get back to school once you have some saves.... and you should also do your best to keep to your promise.

Sir,

Here's what I suggest.

Work on creating legitimate means of income.

Business. Coding. Content Writing. Etc

When you have a fairly stable streams of income

Go back to school

As you can see, your father's limits are hampered by the debt he's paying, and depending on him may be a wrong move.

So work on creating sources of income, then take it from there.

Your intentions are wonderful, and I hope that you get the best of your dreams and life.

Try Jamb, go to MAPOLY. Their school fees no plenty. Go do Pharm tech. At least with poly education, you can be hustling whether part time or full time. One year of IT and you can finish HND or go to University to finish up.

All the best bro

Yes if you can get a computer and learn Programming, it will be the best decision you have ever made. I was a mechanic before I became a programmer just be determined but having a degree is still important. I recommend if you are going to the university to choose computer science.

I think it is possible for you to be in school and learn what you want to learn simultaneously.

Generally, there is always time and opportunity to combine something else with academics.

You can also consider a course that will not take all your time. Why not consider Computer Science since you already have interest in it. More so, the only subject you will have to change in UME will be Biology to Mathematics I think.

If you don’t have a sponsor or any financial income,no need of wasting your time in any higher institution ,else you will regret it .Education now is all about finances and if you don’t have any means of income you will surely regret it or drop out.
Go learn a skill and when you are well established, you can go back to school.
I am given you this piece of advise from my personal experience.

I don't know what advice you need when you've already advised yourself.

Nigerian unis don't teach coding. The highest you'll get is basic coding. In schools like Lautech, you even get to code inside a book. grin grin grin If that qualifies as coding, that is.

You've chosen the wise option. Get the job, the laptop and begin coding. You just need dedication and seriousness.

Tech, freelancing and coding are the future. And the path you've chosen right now will take you right there.

Good luck brother
