Pharmacy is cool, but no course is best in Nigeria if you no get connect.
Whichever you choose, plan to travel to a sane country after your studies.

So u need connection to open a large pharmacy?
I bet u also use connection to dig borehole

To avoid frustration, go for Pharmacy.
Anything Engineering is not ripe for Nigeria because there no enabling environment to practice.
The best is to be a teacher or lecturer .
But you can easily set up your own pharmacy if you don't get job.
Now that government hospitals are not working well everyone furn to private hospitals.
You may join them to save a life or too.
My own opinion

@ bolded
Are you our of your mind
Even to set up a chemist shop with common drugs
You will need nothing less than 300-500k
And you call that one easily? SMH

How can I get in touch with you sir

I just graduated from university this year

And am searching for company to practice my profession ( civil engineering ) pending my service year.

Hopefully you can be of help sir

I am a civil engineer and I would definitely advise you to do civil engineering.

Nigeria is a developing nation, construction going up and down, you would definitely see jobs to do.

don't worry about quacks in the building industry. most clients would still call you when their buildings and other structures start experiencing cracks.

Even with my OND in Civil Engineering, I feel like a graduate of Medicine and Surgery who has spent 8years or more in school.
I'm not trying to be exaggerating, Civil Engineering is a course that would open doors of opportunities for you because of the several others careers under CIVIL, the mother of all Engineering.
Go for Civil Engineering, it is not just interesting but also lucrative.
If Civil Engineering is the mother of Engineering where does Mechanical engineering fit? Father?

Omo I’m studying civil Engineering and everyday I feel like I’m making a mistake.
Everyone I know that studied civil all rushed off into IT.
The thing with engineering is that there hardly exists any kind of career structure like with the medicals. So na struggle you go struggle tire.
Being a brilliant engineer won’t cut it; you need to be a ferocious hustler. All the people talking about life changing engineering contracts; ask those that got them what they went through to get it.....and how forthcoming are the contracts self.
If you check the field, the engineers that make it the most are those ones driven by passion.
This passion begins to manifest straight from UG days; you will always see them complaining about not getting enough practical knowledge from the department; then they start pushing beyond school, getting practical knowledge outside of school work. They put themselves through so much stress but they seem to be enjoying this stress. Only with passion will you survive here.
Summarily, civil engineering is rewarding but get ready to live an extremely stressful life.
Unlike pharmacy and other medicals; you will never be comfortable working a “routine” engineering job.

Engineering courses are meant to be stressful.
I'm also a Civil Engineering student. I decided to wait and learn bricklaying before going for my HND. I totally agree with your opinion. It is stressful but I believe in the end, the stress will be worth it

LEAVING NIGERIA IS BETTER
syrecookie:
Which of these course guarantees a better life after graduation?

Ps: I have passion for medicine and surgery but I don't want to pursue that passion cause of the length and complications of studying it in Nigeria. So I am looking for a better alternative in either pharmacy or civil engineering, please I really need your sincere opinions(preferably from experts in either fields).
Need something lucrative in Nigeria and abroad(the money is needed oo, studying in Nigeria is hard enough).

If there is any Engineering that sells in Nigeria, it is civil engineering. What are the major projects our national budget goes into? Civil engineering constructions. Be grounded in the use of softwares like AutoCAD, Orion, Staadpro and you will survive the few rough years after graduation.

It is a course you can easily go into private practice too. Maybe I am biased cos I am a civil engineer, but that's my advice

Civil engineering anytime any day! If you consider opening a big pharmaceutical company in the future, go for pharmacy because it's a profitable business when your customers bare sure of getting whatever they want. I mean prescrib drugs

First of all you must be very brilliant to be able to have the two options on your table. That's a plus to you. But if you do some critical soul searching you will find the aspect of science you feel more comfortable with. A potential Civil Engineering Student should be comfortable with Physics, Further Mathematics, Technical drawing and the likes. While for a Pharmacy student you should be really good with Biology and Chemistry and Mathematics. Fine you might have passed all of this courses in secondary school but I will advise you to pick the one that comes more natural to you.

Now the worst assumption anyone can give you is that Engineering is not worth it in Nigeria gringrin. That's a big lie, some Engineering might not be worth it but trust me Civil Engineering is worth it if you are well grounded in school. I have friends in my class that currently have cars and all came from executing projects whilst we are still UG's. Emphasis on the word knowledgeable. The thing with Engineering is that most students don't realize theirselves until after two years of graduation. But person wey don grab since UG will be making it well. Well I don't know the opportunities that are abound for pharmacy students. I can only speak about Civil.
With Civil Engineering you're spoilt of choices. Well I will still advice you to do some deep soul searching and choose the one that comes easy to you simple. But if you must do Civil Engineering you must be ready to sacrifice you all because incompetence is not rewarded in Engineering and we cannot cover our own mistakes like those in the medical line. To stay ahead of thousands of Civil Engineers currently you have to bring your A game to succeed. And also study Civil Engineering with an Entrepreneurship mindset if not you might end up building people houses and not have one for yourself. Good luck.
thanks alot
About the soul searching, I think pharmacy comes more natural to me that Civil engineering

If you have passion for medicine, why not go for it. If you were to work in Nigeria, a medical doctor is placed above every other area of discipline. Let me break it down. A medical doctor entry point to service is level 12, while an engineer without Coren is level 8. Pharmacist is placed at entry point of 10.
A medical doctor at entry level 12 earns better than a deputy director at level 16.
A pharmacist earn better than an engineer.
Abroad, a medical doctor stands a better chance of gaining entry into western countries and you can google the pay.
If you can't do medicine, go for pharmacy.
My 2 cent.
thanks, God bless

Can you endure trekking kilometers under very scorching sun and dusty environments while brainstorming and performing calculations at the same time? Can you endure extreme physical stress? Civil Engineering is just like being in the military but without Guns. I studied the course because I loved calculations (I did well in math, physics and further math) but as I progressed in it, I realized that the life under the sun wasn't for me and I was more of an office person, I didn't fancy going to work in the field and coming back looking all dirty and blackened by the sun. As we speak, am looking for a way out of the Engineering field (looking closely at IT). Growing up, we didn't have mentors to detail what we were going into as Civil Engineers, sometimes I feel like am in the wrong field. I'm saying all these for you to have a picture of what the life of a Civil Engineer may look like.

OP study what you like. Many people change path if they don't like it. Both of them are 5 years naw.
Many Engineering guys are into IT even I read about a Physiologist,a graduate of OAU who learnt IT and is in Andela currently working. Engineering is a course that is tough. If you're not doing Software Engineering, Computer engineering, I don't think there's a 80%chance you will use that your Certificate majorly in the Engineering field.
OP even try most of my guys that chose Engineering chose Petroleum and Chemical engineering. Na oil money dey their mind.
I wouldn't lie to you OP. If a Civil Engineer or any Engineer eventually sees a Job in a multinational company, he earns millions monthly as salary, housing benefits, health insurance etcetera. You can take over 60million Annually. Ask those working in Field work. Do you know how much Shell BP, Schlumberger, ExxonMobil,Total pay?
Some local ones in Nigeria like Belema oil handsomely renumerate staff. Even an Accountant in Shell earns better pay. Some geologist, Geophysicist earn alot too. Health workers earn too in these organizations but not as much. You can check their Salaries.
If you even get work for Berger or even stupid CCECC, you go dey stable I swear. Getting the job is not easy but I know that engaging in Scholarship can give you a lift in your application.
No Health Practice in Nigeria is first easy except it is done by a Wealthy Person or multinational. Pharmacy is good when you act as Sales Representative for big Organizations. They may not earn as much but 400k a month isn't that bad. Those that even run private practice earn too.
Pharmacy with a reasonable capital, you can start up but Engineering in Private practice isn't easy. Engineers from NYSC are shown pepper from Teaching to other things. I don't want to relate because where I teach,an Engineer a graduate of FUTO is teaching there too but he says his looking up money via tutorials and he's making it. Imagine earning 20k and lesson per child is 8k and he Tutors six from Thursday and 4 Monday to Wednesdays. Things are not easy but I know things will get better.
Nigeria Society of Engineers are doing their own rubbish. In essence OP do what you love. If e pain you and you Don tire, leave and use your Mathematics brain for Another thing. GTB CEO is a Mechanical engineer
