When "Darey Art Alade" sang "Pray for me", he must have been thinking about me. I'm born and bred in a peaceful town in Osun State. I moved to Lagos for the first time for my University Education. Throughout my stay in UNILAG, I never loved Lagos. The stress, the way people act, the Rush, the cat race is just not for me. After my University Education, most corpers relocated to Lagos State for their NYSc but I never did. I served @ Oyo state and that was the best decision I ever made. The cool and calm nature was just perfect.
After NYSC, every job opportunities available is in Lagos, recently I got a job that pays 60k and people advised me to accept it , that at least for a start. I left my town today and here I am in Lagos squatting with a friend in a ghetto in Surulere. My friend paid almost 150k to get just a room in this ghetto.
Whereas, I got a bigger room in the town I served in Oyo state with just 30k. Now what's my point?
Now, since there are little to no opportunities in Osun State and almost every other South Western States except Lagos, I've decided to forcefully love the city.
Please, I need an apartment close to VI, I don't want to waste my 60k salary on transport and feeding alone. My budget for accommodation is just 80k.
I know 80k is too small in this rat race city called Lagos, but I know some are just capable of helping. Please if it's possible,
I need a better job out of Lagos, a job out of Lagos would be my utmost joy.

I just decided to type this as it comes from my heart. There are more, but lemme stop here.

*Please the idea of not wanting to leave my comfort zone is not just it, leaving my comfort zone is not that I must suffer in Lagos.

Another question is, : must I stay in Lagos to succeed? I need a better job to get out of this city mehn embarassed

The best is to get familarize with trusted co worker for best accommodation... Except you have family member living close by. Even by that, you can't escape the cat race and traffic in Lagos city. Even my 6 month IT waking up 3am to meet staff bus b4 5:45am from ikd and still come back home 8-9pm every week dat...

It would be better if your coy have staff bus...but you still need to develop high tolerance for stress especially in lag. May God bless every hustle out there.

Look inward, find what you can do, give it to society and monetize it. You're be happier, free, limitless in how much you can make. Looking for job should be a bridge, not the goal.

When i see graduates with smiles on their faces when they are going for nysc or after they have graduated from nysc, i always laugh and also pity for them, especially when they show off their nysc certificates or their awards of recognition they received in nysc.

Only if they know what awaits them after nysc.

Plan 1: I will suggest you continue staying at Surulere with our friend and contribute in paying the house rent.

Plan 2: Save 35% percent of your salary for 36 months then you can plan going back to any SW State of your choice to start a little business.

Plan 3: Within the 36 months you will be working, look out for better offers in Lagos you may end up not going back after the period.

Plan 4: Execute Plan 2 if Plan 3 didn't work with the 36 months period.

I don't know what Lagos look like today, but i can tell you, Lagos prepared me for every country i have been to today.

People misconstrue Lagos, if you want to enjoy Lagos, get a job within your locality or move to another state. I lived in festac when i was in Nigeria, my job was in festac, my neighbours also worked in festac, we never complained of traffic and all this Lagos is too fast ish.

I understand that everyone can't work in their locality, however, try to find a balance or move to another state.

Nigerians complaining about Lagos, Newyork is Lagos on steroids, especially during rush hours, thats why some Americans will never ever live in Newyork, same way some Newyorkers will never live in North Carolina or elsewhere, it becomes too dull for them.

Try and find a balance, somewhere around the ajah area. One day, when you start making Lagos money, you will hate ibadan.

First, try to love your job. Other things will fall into play smiley

Secondly, the 80k you intend using to find an apartment in VI is close to impossible..dat 80k sef na some hotel money per night..Solution?

Do like most graduates and girls do, ask the right people, you'll find a security personnel with enough space to spare you..give him the 80k or 50k and squat there instead of a ghetto in surulere. Believe me it'll help u in the long run.

Thirdly, don't settle for a 60k job on the island...there a jobs everywhere believe me! But they're not advertised. That's why you need the right connections. Solution? GO OUT More often.. Start with a good church..e.g Harvesters Intl(lekki) Elevation Church (Still Lekki) M.F.M (Igbo efon branch) the one Sanwo Olu goes to. These are churches that are proven helpers from personal experience...ANYONE you choose. That MFM especially, just chill after service on the Last Sunday of the month, you'll be on your way for an interview the next Monday as long as you're qualified.

Lastly, Lagos is really stressful, But remains the best city in the country by a long margin..People below me will tell you otherwise, but deep down they know it's the truth kiss So instead of striving to move to another state, your next goal after Lagos is to leave this hellhole called Nigeria undecided May God's guidance be with you smiley

Op, why not try entrepreneurship? That would give you the freedom to live anywhere of your choice.

What kind of course did you study that's only available in Lagos. Lagos will drain you mentally, physically, socially except you're a Lagos big boy into fraudulent activities. Kindly leave the overhyped slum and look for a job around Ibadan. You can even open up a shop as a side hustle and you will get enough rest to do anything you please.

The wages of workers in Lagos is pretty high but the expenses are way higher, so don't get carried away by the 60k. Lagos 60k na Ibadan 30k.

Hmmmmm... let me reserve a space here.

On the matter, What course do you study?
And since you don't like Lagos, what service can you render that's need outside Lagos?

Life in Lagos. Sometimes I wonder how people are surviving in that city. The struggle is too much and so many people do not know the impact on their health and wellbeing.

INCOME
STANDARD OF LIVING
RESPONSIBILITIES
HOUSEKEEPING
CAPITAL EXPENDITURE
FAMILY/FRIENDS/SIBLINGS
WIFE/IN LAW/GF/SIDE CHICK
FEEDING/DATA/TRANSPORT

IF truly there's heaven and hell the yardstick for heaven should be considered for Nigerians to the nearest minimum or nil for hell
