You make a good point about possibly bad outcomes. However you solution is rather unrealistic.

Police is not controlled by the states, so electing “better people” is not going to do anything.

Actually there was a story about a former Governor of Anambra State, Mbadinuju who made vigorous efforts to stop these extortion centres. The police big wigs countered his efforts by mounting a check point almost right in front of the Government House.

It should be a no brainer that policing should be decentralized in a country as vast and diverse as this one. We shouldn’t just have state police but also LGA and municipal police.

We should have state police, if the people are ready to pay the high taxes needed to fund such police.

Knowing Nigerians...

You're indirectly asking for the status quo, right? Where Police will be killing the people, while Fulanis will kill anybody standing up against them.

Igbos aren't animals. They won't turn against their people, because they know all these people involved.

Nope, I am asking all of you.... you Nigerians ................to realise that for democracy to work it must be participatory. I won't say more

We don't need the military or the police to mount any road block in any part Igbo land because we are not at war.

The North are the people that need those tight and numerous road blocks because they are being ravaged by Insecurities.

Igbo land isn't at war and we don't need road blocks. All they do here is to extort the poor masses.

Enough is enough

Articles without balance can't fry. If you're asking Igbos to sheath their sword, ask the Police to change their old ways.
In Lagos, we have a protest against Police brutality.

And the only way you can get the police to change is the same way black people got their police to change their ways in the USA....by participating agressively in the democratic process.

But most of you want quick quick.

I don't support police violence, by the way.

Here in the SE, we already pay vigilante groups who can’t legally get better weapons or arrest people. And even at that they are more effective than the police. So paying isn’t a problem.

We just need law enforcement that is locally accountable.

I love this , the road blocks and the police and the army were never there to protect us , rather was an occupying force , they shud go , we will secure ourselves , if u doubt it go and steal in aba right now and see what will happen to u . All I remember about the Nigerian police and army was intimidation , they are 60% none igbos that’s why they are bickering , the cash cow is dead .

A police force is far more than a vigilate group...they have to be equipped to maintain law and order than any part time vigilante....and paid better salaries too.

So, any state polcie force means higher taxes....(and restructruing won't solve the issue...the populaiton oF each of the regions of Nigeria is too large to survive on just 'oil, agric, palm oil, cocoa, minerals, etc).

Fun example...Hisbah in Kano can break beer bottles...but if they came across a corpse on the street, they too would call the police because they don't have things like trained detectives, forensic facilties, etc etc.

We were begging them to stop extorting us and they were grandstanding.

Ala Igbo is not a war zone.

Fulani security men should not lay siege on our land.

Leave our roads.

If ESN is gonna kill us let them kill us.

I will die a happy man knowing my fellow Igbo man killed me than that an almajiri from Sokoto who is looking to claim my ancestral land butchered me.

Almajiri media claiming the East is a ghost town and cult-related activities are on the rise.

To show how stupid the reportage is, they claimed Supreme Viking controls a part of Ogborhill while Aro Baggar controls another part.

What is the difference between the two?

The only truth in the report is that NO CHECK POINTS in the East

Do you expect Nigerian to employ more Igbos?
The Nigerian state fought against community policing, Amotekun etc... So how do you wish to get the locals into the unit?

Participate in demcoiracy, get an ammendemnt to either create state police, or increase funding for the police.....or improve training.

It is that simple.
