I have been wondering why people return from Canada after getting The almighty PR. I have 3 friends who return from Canada after obtaining their PR and that got me thinking after struggling to get Canada visa and getting to Canada struggled to process PR then return back to Nigeria full time, when I ask them why they gave me different reasons. Which I will be stating here to also hear from other people who did same and their reasons.

These are their reasons

The first reason I got was that significant % of migrants to Canada is after the Canadian PR simply to enable their children to the free health care, subsidized first class education Canada provides, while they themselves leave Canada returning to the origin country to continue making money.

2. Its also an excellent Plan B passport for their spouses (nommally wives), in case things turn nasty in the homeland.

3. People see PR as an excellent investment - with reasons known to them

Please does anyone know if an USA immigrant Visa interviewer would want the applicant to present PVC or any other ID card to verify you are a Nigerian..

Just asking because I was petitioned for with a different name and DOB which are now in my international passport.

The reason for the topic is to have verse knowledge to either prepare yourself or to make an informed decicion when relocating. No topic is a waste , in every nonsense their might be a little sense in it

Another source explained that because people came to Canada thinking it was a land of milk and honey with high-paying jobs just dangling from the lowest branches of the job trees ready for harvesting so they would suddenly be making $100,000 or more just because they have landed with PR.

Canada is not a land of endless jobs. If it were, there would not be unemployed Canadians with bachelor’s master’s or PhD’s.

They fail to realize that white collar managers are not rare in Canada and employers hire people who have Canadian experience.

People who immigrate to Canada after doing their homework and come with a job don’t normally leave. Because their mindset is grounded in reality and not fantasy.

Probably the people you know are lazy, hoping to pursue a criminal enterprise there or are politicians. Because 3 people you know return doesn’t make Canada bad or some sort. My friends That recently got PR, his son just had a major brain surgery in Canada free of charge. Even a menial job is enough to live comfortably in Canada. Btw PR doesn’t mean you can’t come home.

Majority don't return. Knowing a few people who did so doesn't mean "people return from Canada after getting their PR". But yes, some do and there are many reasons for that:

1) Canada is one of the few countries if not the only one that approves your PR even before you leave your home country. Therefore, many people who are not yet ready to migrate go for it ( cause the process favours younger people) and then return home to continue their lives till they are ready.

2) Getting a job in Canada (or the western world) as a PR card holder and living in Africa is your fastest way to becoming a multi-millionaire. This is because of the exchange rate difference. Therefore, many people whose works are remote (as are majority of them these days) don't see any reason why they should keep spending in dollars while they could go back to Africa and live like kings with just a percentage of thier income.

3) For some, it has always been the plan. Not everyone wants to live abroad. They'd rather stay close to their friends and families. But then again, they need the PR card in order to secure an alternative home for themselves outside Nigeria. With thier PR cards, they can also do all forms of investments here in Canada

4) Maybe they got a better job offer back home. Remember, it's economic migration for many of us and not just fun. It means we're aiming to make more money. Nigerians that come here are very educated and experienced. Adding Canadian experience to thier CV's makes them more attractive to the labour market back home. When a such persons eventually land a big job in Nigeria and does calculations (income vs expenditure) only to realise he'd save much more in Nigeria, he might decide to dare the consequences and move.

4) Like someone pointed out already, some didn't just do thier research well. Canada is a very beautiful country with nice people and job opportunities. But it's not a perfect country and migrants must make sacrifices. Apart from a few of us in tech, med, etc., most migrants don't easily start off with senior roles. This means they have to sacrifice their years of experience! Again, living alone in a country where you don't know anyone is emotionally draining in the beginning. Let's not even talk about the cold. It therefore makes perfect sense why some of these people decide to go back home afterwards.

In summary, people move for many reasons and it's not peculiar to Canada. The same thing is applicable to the US, UK, etc. It's only more obvious with Canada cause of the shorter time it takes to get one's PR/citizenship here.

many working class Nigerians qualify for Canadian PR. So why not take advantage of it Last time I checked it doesn’t cost up to 700k if you have 3 years experience, masters or two degrees . After all our elites dey buy citizenship of Caribbean countries for 200k usd. Abeg your topic is a no brainer. Every sane person in 9ja wants or needs a second passport as Nigeria is on fire already

Absolutely, You have to verify and prove you are a citizen of Nigeria not only by passport but with a valid ID...

I will suggest you get a new DoB that Carry's same info with your passport...

And also apply for a new drivers license that Carry's same info...

It will not make sense my brother at least they have to gain from their suffering and money wasted, they will use PR to console themselves while they go back and rethink.. my thought

Another source explained that after landing to Canada you will face one of these situations:

If you are lucky enough you will get a suitable paid job in your field during the first 6 months (not a common possibility) .

You might need to work on your academic credentials for one to 3 years in order to get it up to the Canadian standards ( always young immigrants will follow this option )

Others might go back to school and enrol in post graduate programs. Or simply start from zero.

Some immigrants will land to Canada with a wealth and start a business.

Some older immigrants will fall out of any of the above categories, they will be desperate and unemployed, the only choice for them is to go back to their jobs out there , or simply search for a job back home.

Information is the key

This is true.....No good jobs in Canada, boring and very high cost of living despite having low salaries!

Some people (if not most) did return from Canada after becoming PR because they saw Canada was not what CIC claimed it to be.

Lack of job is common everywher now

And not everyone wants to settle for blue collar in the freezing country...which sometimes after you pay bills...you have very little to save...

People who can eaisly retain their job in Nigeria go back home immediately...
