This friend is very prideful, while the HR needs retraining. They are both in the wrong here.

I understand. But what is wrong in " I didn't apply for that. I'm not interested" finish. I hope you get where I'm going to? It costs nothing bro. Even if he was with a very high paying job. Humility matters. I know a person heading a hotel. The cook had msc and no one knew until managerial position opened up. Guess what...she earns times two more than the previous manager. The humility startled the owner. There is a thin line between knowing your self worth and pride....

grin Nigerians and titles. One client once told me in Naija that I have a PHD and I am more educated than you out of the blues. Abroad nobody send your title or profession. People are addressed by their first name, even emeretus professors. Even now, apprenticeship schemes are taking over work places, and people with big qualification will find themselve starting at entry level.

Quick example are Nurses porting to UK to work. Despite their PHD they must start from staff grade band.

The precarious situation of job opportunities in Nigeria has made many Human Resource Personnels, downgrade, demean and continuously discredit Nigerian graduates. A lot of HR officers were once job seekers before they were given an opportunity but they turn out to see themselves as demi-gods over time.
HR Officer's attitude towards job seekers portrays their organization's corporate image but most of them fail to draw the line and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of such positions. Some job-seekers are terrible though but they still deserve some respect.
Here is a friend's experience who applied for a top position in an organization that is in the Health Sector but was invited for the post of an administrative assistant even though he has an M.Sc in Health Economics and is doing a high-paying job at present. The HR officer even ended the call on my friend when he called for clarifications. My friend almost petitioned the HR officer to his organization for disrespect & lack of professionalism but decided not to do so after the HR guy apologized.
I chose not to reveal the organization and HR officers identity for certain reasons. This is a screen shot of their conversation and it happened in FCT Abuja

Nairalanders, What's your take on this?
Lala, please move to front page so others can learn.

HR managers in Nigeria are Demi God's. I once went for an interview in a hospital. I was to be interviewed by the MD and the HR, they told me to stand up all through. That was the first red flag.

Next thing they asked what I would like to be paid, and I must have said 200k. He laughed and said, "so if we pay you 200k you will really collect?". I asked for my CV that was in their hands and walked out of them.

But the chest bearing for having an MSC is useless. Especially if he has not solved any problem in this world. I once sat under a prof that among a team that discovered major medication, not once did he mention any of his achievements, I only found out from browsing.

All the best

90% of rejected applications for jobs are as a result of HR’s keeping those positions for their relatives, friends or side chicks etc. most CV’s are flawlessly crafted and most interviews are aced with ease but the HR’s are the tall walls that deny right fits to get the jobs. Company’s needs to change HR’s regularly to avoid favoritism.

Some comments here are just very surprising. Imagine that silly HR applied for a position of his field and was given a junior position without a call to accept or reject. He asked that it was not the position he applied for and they told him " That is correct! We felt this is the best position for you."Do you think he would be humble? grin .That move was a dirty tactic and the OP's friend understands this. Msc or Bsc or whatever. It is very unprofessional.

Your friend is being over sensitive and egoistic the hr did nothing wrong does your friend want him to heap sugar and spice to pass a simple straight forward message. your friends reaction is grossly out of proportion if he doesn't want the job he should politely decline. Go back and read the post. He's already on a high profile job.

Secondly, we must develop as a nation.

Why is it that you don't get what you apply for in Nigeria?

From university to labour market.

The company advertised and he applied and you said he suit admin assistant. Do you even know who's an admin assistant?

They guy has a high self esteem and that is good. He has developed himself above that low level admin assistant and that is very good.

Advice: go back and read the post. HE'S NOT JOBLESS that's he said if you know me you won't say that.

Don't mind him. At a time like this you will discover a lot of low self-esteem class on NL.

there's an atom of pride in his RESPONSE, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? Even with first class in both first and second degree he's not supposed to sound this way

The HR did everything wrong. You don’t invite someone to attend an interview for a job they never applied for. That’s absolutely unprofessional. There was a telephone convo where the hR personnel was probably rude as well.
Unemployment has made most people lose their self worth.

exactly, he doesn't need the outburst at all!

Self worth don't necessarily have to wrestle words, it's an inbuilt trait that will showcase itself
